PS4 Launch Thread [Thread being archived 1/1/14]

Anyone use the vertical stand care to comment on how sturdy the ps4 is with it?

I'm noticing the insane amount of heat the ps4 is generating in my av shelf but it is slightly too high to fit under the t.v.like I do with the WiiU which would give the best air flow

The stand seems like the solution but the basement is constantly a Lord of the Flies situation on the weekends add my kids have friends over. They won't purposely destroy anything but crashing into the area is probable :)

So my PS4 launch replacement from amazon has done this twice and just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I was just playing knack, when randomly it spits out the disc. Now this is the second time in 3 weeks this has happened. I learned the first time it happened just to flip the console on its side and than it will accept discs again. Its really strange. It is like a 20 second fix literally. Just flip console on side, butdoes anyone know why this would happen? Because other than this strange issue I have had zero problems with my console.

PS4 is noticeably louder if you place it vertically instead of horizontally. There is also a generally held idea that with the vents on the bottom of the console (when stood vertically) doing so blocks these vents.

Thus from what we can tell horizontal is the best position for heat and noise

cool! I was watching the order status like a hawk today at work. but no dice since 10 am. but tomorrow I will be part of the earlier bird clan.

still thinking about what retail game to get.

I think I'm torn between AC4 and need for speed.

AC4 is fantastic - I'm really enjoying it. More than any AC game to date
NFS is pretty good, but I wouldn't say it really stands out.

Has an absolutely epic day. Managed to bag a new phone contract on friday night off the carphone warehouse site. Got an xperia e or m, and get a PS4, Vita and Knack with it. Stuff arrived this morn and they'd chucked in a 16gb mem card for the vita, and a 90 day ps plus sub alongside as well. Grabbed Killzone SF and Need for speed from the shop and boom, it felt like being a child at christmas again, getting so much new stuff to set up and mess with. Ps4 seems reaaaal nice though. The UI is so much faster, Shadowfall looks jawdropping, just a really great first day experience.

Can someone confirm/deny, is it possible to turn on a previously connected PS4 (sitting in standby) using an iOS app, while you're not on the same wifi network?

When I'm at home, I can always connect to PS4 using iOS app, but when I try to do this from work, it fails every single time.

Needs to be on the same wifi network.

It is not possible. Both of them need to be on the same network for it to work.

No matter what I do I have the same issue, I just gave up and decided they'd disabled it early on to ease the load or whatever. However, a friend in Germany had a few of his display a couple of weeks ago - asked him what he did to make it work and he didn't know, said it was random.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Weird. I'd like to know what's the reason. I've also noticed a couple of times, once for me and once for a friend, that the shared images aren't visible in the What's New feed. It shows the game and the person who shared it, but not the image itself. Both of these happened last week.

That sounds like a pretty good deal. I assume they charge you for it on the monthly tariff, but as long as it isn't too bad, it's a good way to get a new PS4

Are you talking about pushing downloads to your PS4(in standby mode) from the iOS app from another network?
If so, than you should be able to do that. I've done that games/demos while I'm at work so that they're ready to go when I come home.

So I have a brief question on NFS: Rivals... I loved Hot Pursuit and somewhat liked Burnout Paradise. I absolutely hated Most Wanted. I'm not really a fan of open world driving games for the most part but Rivals seems interesting to me. Is it worth it at this moment or should I wait for another racing game (similarly to why I'm waiting for Fifa 15). I have enough games to play between PC, PS4 and Wii U so that's not an issue. Thanks for your thoughts.

How bad is it to unplug your PS4 while it's on? I had to do this 4 times now because the frigging thing froze/flashing blue light.

Hold the power button for about 10 seconds. It will shutdown. This has been a common feature on just about every electronics device for the last 6 or 7 years. My toaster does not do this however.

Thanks for the info, I will leave the PS4 where it is, the front of the shelf is not enclosed but you can really feel the heat.

Worst case scenario I did buy the 3 year accidental warranty

Third party one actually works great. I really like it.

Gonna pick it up probably tomorrow, is it easy to put the controllers on?

i.e will my aforementioned kids and their friends do some damage when then try?

:p

Oh dear it won't get to the menu at all now. Looks like im calling Sony in the morning :(

Damn forgot to say, Sony were pretty awesome. I had to do a little on off dance with a guy on the phone but I got one the next day! I didn't call them until about 2pm as I went out and bought a replacement HDD to try.

Good to know the controller charging stand you bought charges controllers.... But it looks horrible, why would they have the controls facing opposite ways? Why lord?

Uhhh...why on earth would that matter?

Yes! That's one of the things I like about it. You just lay it on there, and then press down on the top of the controller to set it to charge mode. Then press on the top of the controller again to take it out of charging and it just comes right off with no pressure or force whatsoever.

What was it that you hated about Most Wanted? I'd say it has a similar set up but it has a different feel.

It's not entirely race focused. You can get by with just fighting with cops, challenging other players, and playing around in the world. The pursuits actually mean something because you rack up SP and the more heat you get the more you earn but you have to be careful because if you get busted then you lose it all. So it becomes a risk vs reward thing and it can get pretty tense when you have a lot and don't want to lose it. You can bank it while in a pursuit so it's not overly hard. I haven't played the cop career yet though.

You might want to wait it out if you're not sure. It's my go to game right now but I actually liked most wanted. The visuals are really nice too, if you don't mind 30fps

Thanks, on the controller topic I figured out why mine are dying so fast

Even though I set it to shut down after 10 minutes, it stays on for at least 90 when I am watching Netflix (lttp...binge watching Breaking Bad lol)

Anyone else notice this when they use Netflix?

My PS3 started up when I changed the input in my Bravia to PS3's HDMI, but PS4 isn't doing the same. Is there some trick to this?

Woah, really? That might be the problem with mine too. Now that you mention it, it does seem like it doesn't turn off while watching Netflix. This could be a major issue.

Mine sometimes turns off when watching netflix. My latest theory is that the blanket I set the controller on is touching the triggers slightly. I expect patching later to be able to power off the controller without it stopping playback, ala ps3.

I'm getting a lot of "Cannot Upload" notifications on my PS4. Probably 3-4 a day.

Is this normal? Should I be worried about this at all? And is there a way to manually kick it and make it retry the upload (clicking on the notification just launches the game like normal), or is the PS4 automatically retrying in the background anyway?

I think it was said that you can do it manually if you want. I don't know if that is bothersome to yall though

I tried holding the PS button, didn't notice it as an option

googled the answer:

To turn off the controller, hold the PlayStation button located between the analogue sticks in the centre of the device. Wait until a menu appears, and select ‘Adjust Devices’. You’ll be taken to a new menu, which includes the ‘Turn Off Device’ option at the bottom. Scroll down to it using the d-pad, and press the X button.

definitely seems like a pain, but I'll live

In random, semi-related news....Sony are having their end-of-year party tonight and Kaz is going...wish I had a pass! >_<

If anyone is trying to get hold of a PS4 but is not having any luck let me know cause i have an extra PS4 with 5 games that got sent to me which i pre-ordered from another online store but thought i actually cancelled it .

Anyway PM me if your interested :)

I deleted knack off my hdd a week ago ( I played a few chapters and didn't like it much) and I'm thinking of giving it another chance. So if I install the game back will my saves still be intact so I will able to continue where I was at?

Yes, saves and installs are separate.

Ah that's good!

How does cloud saving work on ps4, is there an option to backup to the cloud like on ps vita/ps3 or is there no cloud saving atm?

Is Ghosts worth it? I've been on the fence.

For all the shit i read about the sp i enjoyed it, its popcorn shooter but some nice changes along the way. It also looks fucking sharp as fuck, i have this on xboxone as well and its like changing a generation between the two versions.

It's done auto-magically. Check the Uploads section of your notifications.

Except it's not. It's supposed to upload them automatically at midnight every day when turned on, but it most often doesn't. Haven't had my saves uploaded since 1.52 came out.

I'm sad the PS4 doesn't have a physical ON/OFF switch like my PS2 and PS3 do. They killed the tradition. :(

Yea man, it effectively works out as just paying it off on top of the phone, I think I'll have payed maybe £40 extra by the time the contract is done. I really wasn't getting a PS4 anytime soon any other way though, and I probably wouldn't have tried until March, so I'm pretty happy with it. They literally took it off the site the next day when they ran out of stock, really glad I didn't sit and wait the weekend out to see if I was just being impulsive haha.
