I hope I'm not mixing up things now but I'm pretty sure when they announced BoI they also said it will be available with PS+ for free. Was it at GamesCom?

Not sure why then unless it has something to do with billing info or other factors like facebook linking. The good thing is that it's only something you see and not everyone on PSN unless you send a real name request.

Found it, yep. Don't Starve and BoI: Rebirth are PS+ games.

What a freaking amazing service. I've put 300 hours into BoI on the computer.
 
Finally got my system yesterday thanks to Best Buy's shipping clusterfuck.

Really awesome so far! Didn't have a ton of time with it though. No issues with updating to 1.50 and no BLOD issues or anything. So far so good.

Only got to try out Resogun (OMG...the voxels!!) and Knack, but I've enjoyed both the bit I played. Also tried out Knack with Remote Play and it worked great up in bed.

Very happy so far!
 
Man that playstation live is really amazing and I personally think its a killer app. I am shocked how well it works and the feature to join. plus you can make comments on the side.

Just last night Greg (ign) was just playing and talking.

Only question I have it's are those people in my friend list or just random dudes.

Does XB1 has same at launch?

I got both but honestly BF4 is so messed up right now I can't really judge it until it gets fixed, but if you want something now for sure go with KZ. I'm liking KZ multiplayer a lot: nice maps, gun unlocked from the beginning, no aim assist, and it looks insanely good.

My Logitech G930 PC headset works perfectly, even wirelessly. Just plug USB dongle into the PS, then sync the headphones. Only thing not working is the volume.

Yea I've heard some things about multi-player issues. What's going on with it?
 
So after spending almost a day with the system I've realized I'm torn on the UI. On the plus side it's really fast compared to PS3 and installs take like a minute or two at most but if you're looking for flash it's not here. Feature wise it's as basic as you can expect from a modern console UI. I also really don't like those recent activity pages where everything is kind of just thrown up there in a sloppy, unorganized manner.

So basically it's a UI that's meant to do its job and stay out of your way and that's it. I think I was just hoping for that "next gen" feeling I got when I first saw the 360 blades back when I picked up the system in 05. I guess I should just be thankful everything works so fast and tabbing works instantly as well. Hopefully they can add a way to keep track of your open tabs like on Vita, maybe it's there now but I can't seem to keep more than 1 thing open at a time with a game running. Everything seems to close out completely when I back out of it.

the comments? it's a mixture of people viewing it on ps4 and twitch.tv site not just your friends if any are there.

I wonder if some of this is a result of switching to 8GB at the last minute? The UI might have originally been designed around 4GB (so maybe 512MB for the OS). Now they have access to more, they will hopefully be able to keep some apps open

For me, last night I couldn't play conquest last night because I couldn't connect to their servers. And when I finally did get connected I was on a huge map with 5 other players and couldn't start the match. This right after I got done playing KZ MP and streaming it just fine. Others have other issues also. EA has a message up on the title screen saying they are working on a patch to fix the issues. The game is really messed up right now.
 
Does anyone have any thoughts on what comes after the Xbox One and PS4 generation? I've seen some "analyst" mention that this could be the last time we see a true console, what with the cloud and digital services, etc.

Even if digital delivery continues to grow, I'm still not convinced that streaming a game like KillZone or Battlefield is technically feasible. Wouldn't we need faster internet connections?

Yeah I'm loving it. Spent a couple hours watching it since launch. Sure it going to make someone famous and a ton of money.

I semi-agree. But I think it is a good starting point and it will grow well.

A few things I would like to see that would improve the UI:
- friend groups. And more than one group per friend. So my sister can be both family and GAF. And my coworker can be both in the work group and Reddit.
- settings for recent activity by groups. So I can always see activity from family and close friends, but more rarely from random GAF people.
- block certain games' or apps' activity from showing up. Or make prominent activity on games I am currently playing (or have played in the last 2 weeks).
- comparisons by groups. Compare Knack trophies to my coworkers only, or to reddit only. How am I doing in Driveclub against family or against GAF only.
 
Got my PS4 yesterday, I have a question, if I'm downloading something and I turn off the console, it will download everything and then turn completely off, or will it stay on stand by after the download?

If you put it in standby mode it will finish downloading then install the game. And it will stay in standby mode. I dont know what happens if you select to turn it completely off.
 
Haven't had a freeze until I tried standby mode. The first time I used it, it took a bit for it to come back on. This time, it was stuck on a blank screen. No more standby mode for me.

The thing that bugs me most about the UI is that I have to look at the Music Unlimited and Movies Unlimited tiles. It would look so much cleaner if I could disable these. I don't mind so much that it lists all the games that I have installed horizontally (it may bug me more when I get more games on there) but some sort of grouping function would be nice.

That's exactly what I mean. Different people prefer differnt personal information settings.

I don't want randoms to see my name and subsequently facebook profile, but I do want them to be able to see my profile picture since that can be changed to anything.

Just give the option to chose. Why not have the ability to chose between name&profile pic, just profile pic, or just real name. I think that would solve a lot of problems people have with the real name thing, since some are ok with sharing their real name, but not their picture and some are ok with sharing their picture, but not real name. Some are ok with both being shared. So why not give the option?

Tough question

If BF4 was running properly without any hiccups (SP savefiles being corrupted, MP being entirely unstable for the most part) I'd say that would be the better overall experience if you truly like multiplayer

Killzone is pretty good though. Certain aspects of the SP aren't super exciting but the middle chapters are quite good. Beginning is a bit slow and I hear the ending isn't that good either.

Multiplayer is pretty fun but the unlock style is different so you have to get used to that

I would prefer BF4 MP over KZ personally I think if BF4 MP was stable

All aspects of KZ are stable though
 
So, apparently, dd games will download that first chunk and be installed. Then, while in standby or gameplay will continue the rest.

What I mean is, I downloaded Killzone SP and it installed fine.~8GB. Went into the game and only like the first 4 chapters were installed and none of the MP. This was on Saturday. Wake up this morning and everything finished up.

If you open a game, and then open netflix for example you can hold down the playstation button and it will show both applications as running, and you can check mark which one you would like to close if you want there as well.
 
To the people that wanted to watch me play more of Knock on hard, here you go. Sorry it took so long for me to get back.

On a side note, I can't believe Knack got so low ratings. The game is challenging as fuuuu and the graphics are really nice looking.
 
I'm playing on a 720p TV in my room. Will i notice difference in graphics? If game is in 1080p an my PS4 will render it in 720p, will it look worse on my TV, i mean lack of AA etc, or it will look exatly tha same as 1080p minus resolution?

I just don't see it, at least not in America. There are far too many people without reliable internet connections. That combined with data caps are a killer for "cloud" consoles. From what I hear the UK isn't much better off in terms of ISPs.

We just moved to a house that's in a semi-rural location, but it's just a few miles away from two major suburbs. I didn't even consider the fact that internet would be an issue when we moved. Well, it turns out that since we're in the edge of the county and there's not too many homes between us and the nearest suburb, Comcast can't justify running cable out to our area. I'm currently using Sprint's LTE signal through a reseller. It's fast enough for online gaming and digital downloads (barely), but I'm stuck with a soft cap of roughly 80GB a month. People that are stuck with DSL or satellite internet have it even worse than I do.

Until the majority of Americans have reliable, uncapped broadband, I just don't see cloud consoles gaining a foothold here. Maybe the internet situation will change significantly over the next 5 - 10 years. I sure hope it does.

Higher Resolution downscaled to lower resolution (1080p->720p) will produce what is called supersampling I believe

In essence you will get a better picture quality than standard 720p would provide

Still not as good as native 1080p obviously though but the extra resolution benefits those at a lower resolution as well
 
I asked this yesterday, and never found an answer:

I redeemed my Amazon DLC for Killzone, but it did not download. It's not in the notifications as being downloaded, but I can see it as redeemed on the SEN website. How in the hell do I get to my download history on the PS4 in order to download it again?
