On paper this is weak.
Prototype systems at start of 2017. Read the document before you post about it.
It'll be about both.
People left the 360 for the PS4 no problem, and they will switch back to Scorpio no problem if it suits them.
But AFAIK sony is still not committed in delivering forward compatibility after Ps4/Neo life cycle.
Though, I would bet they will end up doing that because it would really hurt them not to when their competition is.
CPU still looks weak to me :/.
I'll consider picking it up if this their next hardware cycle instead of a stopgap.
For all the talk of Scorpio being a beast I still don't see it making any kind of difference outside of the States. Would that be enough to counter the absolute domination of the PS4 in the ROTW?
I'm expecting a big push from Sony Titles in this FY (2016).
Since we are discussing, I'm pretty sure we wil see something like...
The Last Guardian
PS4: 1080p and 30 fps
Neo: 4K and 30 fps, or 1080p and 60 fps
Gran Turismo Sport
PS4: 1080p and 60 fps
Neo: 4K and 60 fps (resolution maybe a bit lower, but framerate won't fall 60 fps).
Horizon Zero Dawn
PS4: 1080p and 30 fps
Neo: Around 1800p just like the slide and 30 fps, although Guerrila Games is very talanted and may push the 4K and 30 fps, and for 1080p a solid 60 fps what I expect.
Also....
I think Final Fantasy XV will be:
PS4: 900p and 30 fps
Neo: 1080p and 60 fps (which is sad, but time is short for Square-Enix)
I wish we had more details. I really want to know about Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2 and so many others. How they are going to push this hardware. 1080p and 60 fps is what I expect, but is it time to upgrade to a 4k TV?
To be fair, digital games in console had not exploded yet.
What are you talking about man the PS4 and XBOX One share the same baseline architecture and so will the Neo and Scorpio. Just because there is a different in power, doesn't mean that it is incompetence on Sony's end.
Sony releasing this I think for PSVR. Also MS specs not set, possibly different CPU could be a big thing. Sony jumped the gun to get a system that made PSVR look not too bad, for a price jump that wasn't as much it looks like to keep overall costs down.
If you had to get PSVR and new Sony console together and costs were $800+, it would fail. Without new Sony system, it possibly is not going to be as good as they want. So you release a minor upgrade, that is cheaper and call in 4.5. I think this is a mistake. They should have just waited another year then for PSVR or more if the original PS4 wasn't up to task.
Because the console is a fixed platform. The PC you can make tweaks and has modular hardware. Everyone's system is different. So people who've spent more money than others run it at a higher fidelity and framerate. And yes, even on PC you have games that are locked to 30fps, that people mod to be able to unlock and run at higher framerates. But for consoles, it's entirely the devs vision, what they want you to experience, they aren't just going to leave the game at an unlocked framerate (it's very rare that a game allows those kinds of options).what ? so why dont they lock it to whatever fps they designed it for on all platforms including pc ? why can i unlock on my powerful pc and not on my powerful console ? doesnt make much sense
You do realize that you mean backwards compatibility and not forwards right?
Forwards compatibiltity would mean all PS5 games have to work on NEO and PS4, which would devalue what a hypothetical PS5 would be and as a concept totally stinks.
We can have cross gen games designed for PS4/NEO and BC on PS5 without having to mandate all PS5 games run feature parity with PS4. That would be nonsense.
Its a stopgap, otherwise it would be more powerful and not be coming out this year.
No.

You are going to be disappointed if you think Neo can run these games at 1080p/60fps at the same visual quality we currently see. Both will be 1080p/30fps.
Why do you say that?
Horizon Zero Dawn already runs at 1080p and 30 fps on the regular PS4.
About Final Fantasy XV, I can't say anything since their engine sucks a lot in terms of perfomance and they don't have much time to improve.

nope
If MS put in an 8 core I5 class CPU and Sony an Atom class CPU....
MS double their bandwidth, sony small bump.
MS Win 10 will allow PC optimisations, all games 60 FPS, Neo will not, Incompetence.
I have 2 Ps4's, I am not playing 30 FPS gaming for another 3 fucking years until ps5 sony.
No, I mean forward.
Ms is promising that when xbone 2 is launched some games will still run on xbone, and if you purchase it once you'll be able to play on xbone 2 with better graphics/framerate.
Of course there will be a point where the current xbone will have to be dropped, but then scorpio becomes the low end model and the trend continues.
For all the talk of Scorpio being a beast I still don't see it making any kind of difference outside of the States. Would that be enough to counter the absolute domination of the PS4 in the ROTW?
Then why is Sony releasing the NEO? They don't seem to be reacting to a competitor, but just their own decision.
The minor increase that this appears to be is not worth the upgrade for me. Maybe for others it will be. If I had desktop/laptop and the next model hat that specs difference, I'd just wait for the next upgrade, which I will do and keep my PS4.
nope

"if"If MS put in an 8 core I5 class CPU and Sony an Atom class CPU....
Xbox One had 68GB/s bandwidth. PS4 had 172 GB/s. So this isn't really a negative when Sony had such good bandwidth to begin with.MS double their bandwidth, sony small bump.
LOLMS Win 10 will allow PC optimisations, all games 60 FPS, Neo will not, Incompetence.
You're going to be playing at 30fps on the Scorpio as well if you get it, you're in for a surprise if you truly believe that all or even most games will be running at 60fps on the scorpio.I have 2 Ps4's, I am not playing 30 FPS gaming for another 3 fucking years until ps5 sony.
If you look at the specs/requirements it does sound like it was one of the goals.
I think the main goal was to match high end Pc gaming (at 1080p), and to offer a non compromised VR experience.
Specially if the trend of regular games being played entirely in VR continues. Devs are definitely not going to make two set of graphics, and ps4 clearly won't be able to run games that are made for eye candy at 1080p60.
Just as I said before, Sony will do the same: a very soft cross-gen phase that will eventually end but not suddenly...
I mean we had Rise of the Tomb Raider released on 360 last year... It's not that difficult to execute.....
If MS put in an 8 core I5 class CPU and Sony an Atom class CPU....

1) appeal to 4K tv owners
2) potential to sell a new PS4 to existing PS4 owners
3) potential to upsell potential PS4 owners to more expensive hardware, while still offering a cheapo version
there hasn't been any kind of rumors with an ounce of credibility suggesting PSVR has anything to do with Neo
If Sony release this as the 'slim' it puts the ball squarely back in their court. Then later next year announce the true upgrade.
Which reinforces again why Sony screwed up. Why release this console then? Wait another year or so for a major upgrade. Don't go the Sega route this gen.

PSVR.
Hell yeah man, my loyalty lies first with who comes out with the better console, I'll eventually buy both. This gen my main is the ps4 with x1 just there to be play games with friends that own one. as of today it looks like I'll be skipping neo and waiting for Scorpio. Sony can wow me with PS5 though.I'd argue the opposite. If Scorpio is worth it people will switch. At least in the US.
I agree with you there. Sony will definitely do that, because they have to.
But, their official response thus far is that they won't, just pointing that out.
Did you read the document they are talking about resolutions above 1080p, we do not know what the improvements of the Neo will bring. But I agree native 4K gaming on the Neo is not happening.
Delusional.

it works the other way around, why bother with Neo if PS4 already plays 100% of Neo games. Better get a Xbox with new games you can try plus better third party games and some 360 games you have from last gen.LMFAO.
That's not at all how it works.
First of all, everybody that has a PS4 will have a library that's 100% compatible with psNeo, including the digital collection of games.
The xbox brand is dead in asia and continental europe. They are never coming back there.
The only thing they could potentially win back would be America and the UK.
Except it's not like Sony is gonna "drop dead". The catalog of unique games is far more important on Sony's consoles.
If you care about anything but game library, then you don't buy a console to begin with.
Not really, if Neo is Jaguar crap then will just go I5 + 1070 for 3rd party stuff that struggles on Ps4 and cancel my PSVR pre-order. Keep ps4 for Sony exclusives.
If Neo is up to scratch I stay with consoles. Simple.
