PS4 Pro boxes getting prepped

Also, Richard seems adamant that there will be zero differences in games played on PS4 and PS4Pro without a patch, even though according to his notes, Cerny told him that the only thing they did to emulate the original PS4, was to downclock the GPU and CPU to base PS4 clock, and shut off half of the GPU.

Which still doesn't account for the actual architecture differences in the GPU and the PS4 GPU giving better results by default in GPU bound scenarios, let alone speaking of the bandwidth increase that was never actually spoken on.

Basically games will have to be patched to have any performance increase, unpatched games won't have access to the second GPU and therefore run just like before.

This is disappointing, especially since the minimal upgrade in the Xbox One S did give some performance benefits without the need for patches.

There is no second GPU

Odd tidbit. The group I commonly game with on PS4 nearly nightly saw the pics I posted of the box and being at the register. I had to explain to the four main people I play with what it was they were looking at. One thought It was just a 1TB special edition. I don't want to think that this lack of knowledge about a PlayStation console release like this is that commonly unknown, but... maybe it is? Maybe Sony has failed that bad marketing the thing?

My "non-hardcore"-gaming friend who only play FIFA etc don't know what a Pro is.

We've known this how is this bad when games from here on out will have the patch on disc?

Also the Xbox One S still has worse performance on games than its OG PS4 counterpart so even if it doesn't get a patch you're still getting better performance!

Got the dude with the Pro to switch to PNG's :D took a couple of exchanges back and forth yesterday

Atleast quote me directly. We don't know the actual situation of passive performance just yet until we get direct gameplay tests.

Sony's own enforcement of emulating PS4 hardware is not 100%

NOOOOOOOOO

FAILURE

She had to Google the release date. She said it was the 9th.

I FUCKING HELD IT IN MY HANDS. It was so heavy. Fuck me

Dang they got these in stores early. Sony should just allow them to be sold. Its not like its a completely new console with its own set of games. Just send them out to those who pre-ordered already! Open the gates!

Just a week more man, the pain will go away and be replaced by sweet checkerboarded bliss.

Yeah, like it has been said since they announced the console, and they repeated countless of times... -_-

Seriously they said it, again, and again, and again.

When will be the return of "hey, will there be PS4 Pro exclusive games?" or "hey, if I don't have a 4K TV, will the PS4 Pro improve anything in games?". xD

okay, so I'll ask "Do you have the playstation 4 pro in stock today" avoid using that "that comes out today" part

lol, I didn't need to ask. They were just there, in the case. I asked if I could get something from the case. Yesterday and today. Both times they brought them to the register politely and tried to ring them through. Their system isn't giving them a release date. They checked both times.

I'd argue this should have been disappointing at PlayStation Meeting when Sony very clearly stated that users shouldn't expect any sort of performance gain without any sort of developer update to take advantage of the boosted spec.

Xbox One S shows those minor gains because it uses the same exact APU as the regular Xbox One with a direct upclock done to it. PS4 Pro has same base architecture and higher clocks, but in order to ensure stable compatibility (as many games are specifically designed to run at a certain spec and not intended to scale like, say, PC versions of games) that enhanced hardware just basically defaults to basic PS4 levels of performance and cuts off access to the additional power.

Sorry I don't know how to do its across threads. That's why I linked to the thread where your credit can be found.

[snip]

If this struck you as news, you haven't been paying any attention. Sony has been up front about this all along; they've openly stated it repeatedly. Games won't use the new hardware unless they're patched to do so. Some suspect there will be more just by way of other hardware upgrades, but Sony isn't going out of their way to advertise any improvements, so if there are none, you shouldn't be surprised.

Basically games will have to be patched to have any performance increase, unpatched games won't have access to the second GPU and therefore run just like before.

What? What? I think you had better do some reading up before continuing to post your concerns. Second GPU? What are you even talking about...
