Well, I'd totally understand that from most smaller studios, but this is a Sony-published game (not to mention one that was a major hit commercially and critically).
That changes one's expectations considerably.
I don't think it should. Publishing a title doesn't imply close technical collaboration, it just means that Sony is involved in marketing and distribution. Once a studio has met its obligations to the publisher they'll start acting in their own best interest again, which generally means investing in their next title instead of their last one.
Who knows? Perhaps Sony will decide to contract a Pro upgrade in time for a fresh round of promotion leading up to Halloween next year. This particular console launch was simply too late to tie into anything similar.
