PS4 Pro PR has been terrible

The Age of Videogames is over

Antagonizes producing concern about the pro have been obvious. I was referring more specifically to some sony fans who want sony to hit the ball back with some catty tweets or be more proactive in shaping the prevailing narrative. Sony's not going to bother, tho.

Yeah, I agree with that.

Umm its not sold out. Selling out does not mean its still not what people want it to do for their old games and moving forward.

Did you read my words backwards or something? I didn't say it was sold out. I said it's out selling the Xbox One S for the year on Amazon & it's not even out yet.

New ps4 pro/COD trailer gets a  from me, even though it's not a game I'd ever choose to play.

I went to a PS VR event last night and while I was there I got to watch the Horizon: Zero Dawn E3 be played live on a PS4 Pro displayed on a 75" 4K HDR TV.

I was more impressed with it than the VR headset honestly. The person demo'ing had the ability to switch both the 4K Native res and HDR on and off. The HDR switch was more immediately impressive though, which I believe will be present on the base PS4?

Yes.

Honestly, I love the 80s style, but it does basically nothing to promote the Pro. I still don't know why I should buy one instead of a normal or a slim PS4.

The ad is something of a mess all around. It comes across as satire more than a genuine attempt to sell either CoD or the PS4 Pro. Presumably there will be some more competent efforts getting real air time.

One thing that is probably going to annoy me with the Pro, and it is one of the main reasons I avoid PC gaming, is choosing between better graphics in 1080p mode or less complex graphics at higher resolution in 4k mode. I know that sounds really silly, but I am a tweaker and I spend more time in a PC games settings than I do actually playing the game. I totally see myself doing it with the Pro, jumping between 1080p and 4k and deciding what I like more, and then do it a few more times for good measure. I'm just a really indecisive person, it sucks.

This is my fear as well.

Not having a 4k tv makes it easier for me. Also my rule of thumb: Framerate > Resolution.

HDR is already available under display settings on your regular PS4.

Marketing experts at Neogaf predicting the failure of the pro before it launches.

The Pro is an extension of the ps4, Sony doesnt really care if you buy a base ps4 or pro ps4

People are so confused by the PS4 Pro that they are not going to buy a PS4 at all the PS4 Pro is too heavy it's going to sink the whole PlayStation Ship.

I honestly think the mockery here is 100% warranted. Concern trolling has been obvious, but television manufacturers haven't needed in-depth technical information to sell the public on the benefits of a 4K display. We get it. We've made this kind of transition before. They're also doing the bulk of the work of selling the benefits of HDR and wide color gamut to anyone who walks onto a showroom floor and can see for themselves how impressive the displays are.

So in many ways Sony can draft behind that movement. There may not be a ton of 4K displays in homes today but they'll keep selling, and if Sony knows what they're doing they'll have a PS4 Pro display right there to sell alongside your fancy new television.

Pretty much the only heavy lifting they have to do is for the benefits to PSVR and 1080p displays. Reviews for titles and the reviews for the console will doubtless cover both reasonably well. The benefits of super-sampling aren't exactly novel so showing reduced aliasing and title-specific 1080p graphical enhancements won't be terribly difficult. I fully expect to see articles appearing to cover all of the above any day now.

Yeah i think this is the last weekend without that kind of info.
They'll sell some more standard PS4 bundles and then the promotion will start full throttle
with a lot of comparisons. The PS Pro only has to take over gradually, but they'll want a good start with lots of exposure.

When a new nvidia gpu is released the only marketing is that it's x times more powerful than the previous generation, no one says I need screen shots because I dont know how this gpu is going to make my games look better.

Posters on gaf claiming they are confused are just being willfully ignorant. Even "normal" people can figure out what a 2x more powerful PS can do which is why it's selling so well.

The difference being, when I purchase a new GPU for my PC, I don't need to wait or hope on a patch for games to take advantage of said GPU. Games receive the performance boost and/or IQ benefits immediately.

I think it's fair for people to want to know what the Pro is going to do for them.

The problem from a marketing point of view is that by leaving the choice of what to improve to devs, they basically only can say in ads:
The PS4pro "can" output in real 4K
The PS4pro "can" output in 4Kpr* for more demanding games
The PS4pro "can" output in 1080p with more effects/ AA/ fps than the PS4

None of these are good ad messages, though true.

The best they can do imo is : The PS4 pro is a more advanced PS4 that will play the same games that you find on PS4, but better*.

Even then they have to put a * that would say improvements will vary between games, and that games released before October 27th 2016 may not see any improvement at all.

Makes sense to bring it down to: PS4pro. PS4... but better.

And -then- it just feels like you are sh*tting on PS4 owners, while still selling the Slim.

It's going to be a tough balancing act in marketing.

No argument here. Sony is definitely in a tough spot for marketing this thing. I just wanted to point out that buying a new GPU is not an apples to apples comparison.

But do both MS and Sony not advertise the base units as 1080 consoles, even though both have non 1080 games?

It looks really easy to market so far. It's more powerful than the normal ps4. The end.

People keep getting hung up on the technical details. In practice, all they need to say is that it takes advantage of your 4K display to show more detail, more colors, and more dynamic range plus a reminder that 1080p displays and PSVR can also take advantage of the extra power. Done.

Sony really doesn't mind if you decide to save $100 and get a PS4 Slim. If the above isn't enticing enough, then you aren't the target market.

I think some people on here just need to look at it from a different perspective.

It's just another option. Pretty great for new buyers because it's price is not that much more then a slim atm (and has a bigger hdd standard). It will also be interesting for 4K owners.

Current ps4 owners with 1080p, some will want to update anyway to get the latest, some may have to be convinced first by the performance of their favourite games. Sony is going to have a hard time to convince the majority of the current owners / players. But doesn't this make sense? It's not like it's a new console launch and they don't want to position it like that with PR either. (and even with a new console launch the majority takes a while to adopt anyway).

I think it will be the same for Scorpio. Microsoft isnt just going to easily convince all those recent Xbox one S buyers to upgrade. And that's OK. Yes the power difference will be more in this case and that should also attract a certain category of buyers. But it's still going to be a xbox one with the same games. (from what we know now)

Anyone with multiple PS4s able to comment on how seamless moving back and forth between them is? Are save files automatically uploaded and downloaded from the cloud?

I'm debating if I wanna sell my PS4 when I get the pro, or just move it to another TV.

If I have to remember to manually upload and download saves every time it's not worth it. But if I can play on PS4 Pro one day, turn it off, then a couple days later play on the PS4 One and seamlessly pickup my latest save, that'd be something worth keeping an extra PS4 around for.

Oh that's useful, but I'm specifically talking about keeping both and moving back and forth between them frequently.

Like playing Skyrim on one for a bit, saving, turning off Pro, moving to the original PS4, turning it on, and playing that save game. Is it all automatic in the background or do you have to push and pull it from the cloud every time?

Ah, I see what you mean. Sounds like the full transfer approach won't work then. I suspect you'll need to rely on cloud saves to make that happen. I haven't tested that personally with two PS4s. Not sure how quick and seamless the cloud transfers are.

Doesn't PS+-cloud saves download one time only?

I'm not sure. There has to be someone on this thread who is currently bouncing back and forth between two PS4s.

The process shown makes a copy of the ps4 so your games and files are still on the old one. if you have ps+ then you can pull your cloud saves down onto each unit when you go to play a game and continue from where you left off. If you don't have plus then you will have to transfer saves via a usb key.
