I thought recent versions of the PS4 browser had problems with that. No?
What kind of settings do you use for transcoding, etc.?
Videos that he/ you legally own? I ask because I literally ask them to everyone I hear complain about DLNA and no one has yet to respond that they actually own the content they are streaming.
The question is why didn't they allow pairing bluetooth headsets like the ps3 did when there seems to be enough bandwidth to do it through the controller anyhow. Maybe there is some kind of security concern that I am unaware of but it seems to me 3.0 or 4.0 doesn't add much for them.
I consider "custom soundtracks" to mean muting the in-game music and overlaying your own music, but keeping the sound effects in tact.
Unless specified otherwise, "play [your] own music in the background while playing a game" could function in a number of ways. Maybe they mute just the game music. Maybe they mute the whole game. Maybe they don't bother muting anything.
I really do hope that it's the "custom soundtrack" feature I truly desire, but I can only hope for the best and expect the worst. It's my nature.![]()
it sounds very basic in the description. we'll probably have to go in and mute the in-game music.or not in Destiny's case
Well yeah I do a heavy amount of traveling and A LOT of those files are stored on my Nas and every time some friends or family come over we have a "media party".Videos that he/ you legally own? I ask because I literally ask them to everyone I hear complain about DLNA and no one has yet to respond that they actually own the content they are streaming.
However it works, it will likely do the same thing that Music Unlimited does with its player seeing as it is mentioned as not being available when using the USB Music Player. So the question I have is how does Music Unlimited work, does it mute just game music or just play over the top of it?
I think we both know which category is the vast majority.I've just never seen the big need for DLNA. The only people who I've ever known to be big into streaming media were huge on downloading pirating stuff.
It's cool to know there are actually people who use it legitimately. I just wonder who is in the minority, you guys or the pirates.

Did you not see the February PS4 reveal? The OS looked like it was going to slaughter everything a console had ever seen. Now we're just hoping to get our PS3 and 360 shit back.
It does sound worse. Hopefully the library is improved to the point where its not a hassle.Of course I won't know til I find out more/actually try it, but on the surface using the library to find content sounds worse than what we have.
For my uses (games) I still prefer the PS4 OS. Its quick and to the point - its just missing features. I prefer the scrolly bar of recent games and apps to the Xbox pins, and between the option of keeping the DLNA player snapped at all times like the Xbox or the PS4's coming USB background music, I prefer the USB method. As I said, if someone actually thought for a second that Sony (or Nintendo for that matter) could challenge Microsoft in the OS department, they must have not been thinking straight. They never did, they don't and they most likely never will.

Until someone actually uses Music Unlimited, we won't have any way of knowing.
Apparently it's not all folks:

Yes, I know this. I was just explaining to him that "background music" is not the same as custom soundtracks.
I wish more games would have it. Unfortunately, it's never been a common feature.
Yeah, Sony sucks at this. Coming from 360 and Steam, it's amazing how much better Microsoft and Valve are when it comes to updates and adding new features. I know both have the advantage being software companies and all, but come on.
Why be so secretive about the feature set? It's not exciting. It's just frustrating.
I assume still in QA, thus some features may get delayed due to bugs, then delaying the release.
it plays over top. 30day trial so I didn't pay for that garbage
So instead of being able to choose themes and add wallpapers they are letting us only choose the background color?? 😅😅😅
Please...
For those asking, Music Unlimited works nicely, and allows you play music in the background (including games).
I'm sure MP3 playback will work the same way.
Sorry for the huge screen shot

Thanks didn't see that!

MU plays on top of the game and it has it's own volume slider independent from the games music sliders. However it works, it will likely do the same thing that Music Unlimited does with its player seeing as it is mentioned as not being available when using the USB Music Player. Does it replace the game's music or play over the top and lower the games music like on Vita?
Giant difference between today's version against the one I had on release - out of a 100 tries to login only 5 would go through. And if you got a Sony phone/tablet like me - z2 and z2 tablet - then the Walkman app is probably the best reason to buy a Xperia phone, such a joy to use that app.Yeah, it's a pretty good music player at this point. At PS4 launch it was rough.
Yeah, I remember Sony having some cool features to announce at the event as part of their OS plans, but what was so great compared to what Microsoft showed after that, apart from a few network related stuff, like streaming or game sharing?
