PS4 System Software Preview – USB Music Player, New Home Screen Colors, More

My most needed feature was dlna, I've just bought a smart tv so that's no longer needed but I'm still annoyed that it didn't have this feature when it launched

USB music player is just dumb...HDD dedicated only to sony registered materials?

It is possible that sony don't want to impact HDD read/write times.nthey probably guarantee a certain amount of response time and transfer speed for developers. You'd think they'd have enough leeway to allow for simple MP3 playback but that might take more time to implement and test?

Is the thread safe to enter again?

Anyway, I wonder if deleting a disc based game will completely remove it from the library. I'm not counting on it, but I hope it leaves the game in the library in some fashion.

he actually said "games"

it looks like the next big game is CoD. so I would expect the update before Nov 4th. it's either going to be this week or next.

My money's on the week AFTER CoD. For Sony, not only is GTA V a bit game for them but also Far Cry 4 with the Keys of Kyrat/Share Play functionality. That being said, if it comes out before CoD, it will be a pleasant surprise. :)

that's an entire month after it was previewed. If they wanted to piss off the player base again that would be a great way to do it. I think we'll get it this Wednesday or next

knowing sony it will launch on the same day or one day after COD to cause the maximum amount of frustrations with slow downloads and "unable to connect" messages! :D (and it will need a few hotfixes the following days to improve stability)

prove me wrong sony!

that just looks like a recap of SharePlay after it was demoed at gamescom. not an all out preview like they did last week.

Yes I know, but it was still a preview of 2.0.

What they did last week was actually not a complete preview either. According to the comment posted in the top of the OP there's still more to reveal.

Likely Sony don't want any more user file upload on PS4 system. Most latest console hacks are by upload from USB stick, such as cracked savedata or fake media file.

In-game music from a USB stick, eh?

*imagines playing Call of Duty with NES Contra music for the sheer wierdness/awesomeness of it*

Soo the music updated in 2.0 won't support Custom Soundtracks for WWE games to use custom entrance themes, right? Since there's no way to move songs onto the PS4 hardrive etc?

I don't know what's so special about WWE, but background music will play over the top of all games.

Any news on whether we can back up our games to storage? The only option we have is re-downloading our games. You can do it on PS3/Vita, don't see why we haven't got this option on PS4.

Updates seem great. Looking forward to most of these..and just remember everyone the ps3 os was kinda bare bones before 3.0 i believe. So have patience. But glad I can listen to whatever I want from a usb stick. I doubt I can use my phone for the music though. Oh well. I know I have a couple of memory sticks laying around.

this functionality was actually mentioned in this 2.0 preview, but was subsequently removed. sucks that it's removed (and presumably) not part of 2.0, but it means they are obviously working on it. this wouldn't be the first time they accidentally revealed future firmware features, remember when the official ps podcast talked about themes being in the last update?

Yeah, says on the PS Blog that users can now back up their game data/settings/accounts & other data to USB storage!

So at last I can upgrade my HDD without having to redownload all my stuff again :-)

EDIT: Beaten lol

How hard can it be to add in a friends notification...id much rather then get rid of that annoying friend has joined a party update crap and simply replace it with the friends pop up bar

The only thing Sony need to add is DLNA and that and id be happy....everything is quick...snappy and responsive

i do like the xbox interface but i really miss being able to push a button and go to my friends quickly like the 360

Was Friend Notifications on the PS3 at launch? I had a 360 so I wouldn't know. If not then there's some hope it will come. It's all I want and anything else added is just a bonus.

well i don't want to have to manually start music myself from a usb music player. the wwe games allowed you to put songs on your ps3/xbox360 hardrive, and then the games would let you set those songs as wrestler's entrance theme.

SharePlay sounds really cool but do we have any idea how its gonna work in the "real world" lol. Has there been any word on the testing of it or a beta? Is it gonna have lag or connection issues? I hope its not something that Sony half asses like they do sometimes just to say they have a feature. This could in theory be really cool and could get me to play my PS4 much more.

I'm assuming it will come with the same amount of lag a person might have with remote play.

It uses the same technology as all the other streaming stuff on the ps4. If the "live on playstation" streams are unwatchable for you, it's unlikley remote play will be playable i think.

When you only have one or two hours in a week ahead of you for gaming (which was my case 5 years ago), these 10 minutes are painful.
But yes, updates were less frequent lately, so I had less reasons to moan about them.

They're pretty quick on the PS4, especially as the download can be done in background.
Not more than 1-2 minutes, I'd say, which I'm perfectly okay with.

GT updates can literally take HOURS to install.
The PS3 is just so shitty at this, really.
Yeah, i can see that situation, but i was thinking more in general for those who have more time to play games. GT install can indeed take a long time, but its a one time thing. Same thing with installing games unless people delete the install files several of times.

Sony isnt a software company. They have always been bad with updates/firmware and that probably wont change. Why do these Xbone fanboys find the need to come here and show off about better updates/features? Its pathetic.

I really wish people would quit saying this, Sony has been in the software business now for decades. The reality is that Sony has been slow to respond with substantial OS updates.. At least it seems like 2.0 will begin to implement some bigger changes in the OS, and hopefully start a trend with more consistent updates.

Personally, I'll be thrilled when they add folders. The library list is easily my biggest pet peeve of the PS4.

I totally agree. I love my ps4 but Sony needs a better software team asap. A team that's quicker and more efficient. Maybe a team thats in the west instead of Japan? Idk

But at least we get 2.0 soon and hopefully it'll be great.
