PS4 Update 4.5 is coming tomorrow, details inside

So this might be a very silly question although I'm super excited for external hd support. Does this in any way open the door for hacked/cracked games/piracy? The ps4's architecture has been rock solid thus far.

"We have a variety of off-console apps and features that make communication with other gamers easier, like the PlayStation App and PS Messages. We’re adding an icon, shaped like a smartphone, which indicates a player is logged into PSN but away from their system."

If I have my log-in information saved on PlayStation.com, is it reflecting that? That would be my only other guess. Like I said, I used to have the mobile app but uninstalled it a long time ago.

It is, though. That is the confusing part. It meets all of the requirements it is telling me to. Is it purely because this is a USB Hub also? I don't get it... really wish Sony would just respond to me.
You're connecting it to the PS4 through a (built-in) hub. I don't think there's a way around it. You need a different drive, with no extras.

I'm upset I wanted to make a custom theme but you can't crop the pictures at all! I wanted to get a certain section of picture no can do!! Sooony

After constantly fighting the storage space limitations for so long, being able to install every disc game I own (around 20), feels so good. It's nice to not be limited to five or so games installed at once.

It very well may be that it also serves as a hub; could be a power issue? I believe it won't allow for a hdd to be used if it thinks it's connected to a hub of any sort.

Just DL'd this to mess around with some games for boost mode and the fucking Switch has scrambled my brain after playing Zelda for a week straight.

Had a scary thing happen when booting up the PS4 Pro today, which was on the latest 4.5 beta firmware.

I booted up and the console froze on the health warning screen, so I held down the power button until it shut down. Then I restarted and a "Firmware update available" notification appeared in the upper left hand corner. The PS4 UI wouldn't load, it just stayed at the floating blue screen.

I went into safe mode, rebuilt the database, rebooted, and I got a message about downloading the game I had in the PS4 instead of using the disc (which was Arkham Knight). I might be misremembering what it said exactly. I'd never seen a message like this before, so I assumed my hard drive was dying. I wish I had taken a picture of it with my phone.
I ejected the disc, booted into safe mode again, updated to the new non-beta 4.5 and things went back to normal.

Uh.... no. It still feels pretty laggy to me. Even if it were locked at 30 with boost mode the pacing is all out of whack resulting in laggy controls.

And yet people calling this abomination (control wise) of a game best since sliced bread, how can that be? cause i tired 10x times to play it and its just impossible unless you are masochist and enjoy being tortured...

Downloading The Evil Within(christ its a big file!)

Been in my backlog for too long and it seems Boost mode is a perfect chance to finally enjoy it, really couldn't handle the horrendous framerate before.

This patch downloaded twice for me. It downloaded 100%, initializing 0%, froze, then it downloaded again from 0%. I wonder if there's a system space by version.

So my friend said he can't see the pic and gif I uploaded to the activity feed, checked the PS app and it doesn't appear to be uploaded there as well, any reason for this?

Okay so I'm just waiting on a slick external hard drive deal at this point. I've got my eye on either a WD My Passport or a Seagate Backup Plus Slim. Does anyone think the prices will drop on these sometime soon? How many TB should I be looking for? I've just filled up my OG PS4 500gb.

Man boost mode and having a external SSD on PS4 Pro is beautiful! Everything is so fast.

I've had external SSD on my Xbox Ones for a while but it's nice having both features on the Pro. I always put my frequent or slower loading games on my SSD's

My main game is destiny I have thousands of hours on Xbox and PlayStation the SSD make load times fast just like they did on the Xbox but boost mode does make a difference big time yeah the game is "supposed" to be 30fps locked but it is so smooth now all the time it almost feels faster than 30.

Notifications change isn't really that bad. I mean once I discovered you can hit options to filter the downloads list, my concerns went to bed.

It still is a weird change though as the attempt to simplify and minimize the section didn't really go far enough(the big mega list just feels hollow compared to before with filtering options now hidden). A step back, but not a large one.

Is there a design reason why all three Notifications pages look slightly different...

I'm not a fan of the Notifications page, but I'll adjust. Worth it for Beast Mode and the surprisingly great Upload/Download save functionality on the home screen.

Might be a silly question but i dont quite get the new psvr blu ray 3d update...isnt ps4/ps4 pro not built with an internal blu ray player? So how am i suppose to view blu ray 3d on my psvr if the ps4 itself cant play blu ray?

The PS4 can play regular bluray disks just fine. You're probably confusing this with 4K bluray player.

like some had mentioned...the ps4 can play bluray and 3D bluray video title just fine.

Just not 4K bluray.

Already have an internal 2TB drive, but I picked up an external 250gb SSD (Samsung T3) in preparation of this update and loading times seem significantly improved.
I only tested on Battlefield 1 but for the first time I'm one of the first people to get on a map, I can actually get a tank?!? Haven't played the game in forever but that never happened before!

I figure I can just have my most currently played games on the external as it only takes like 7 minutes to swap a 45 gig or so game from the internal.

Edit: I'm on the Pro. Still need to finish Nioh, then Horizon, then Nier. Not sure if the load times can get any faster on Nioh but I'll find out soon enough.

Edit#2: My internal is not an SSD, to clear up any confusion. So essentially I'm comparing an HDD to SSD.

So all this talk of external storage performing better than internal - safe to assume that the external USB connections don't have the same limiting factors as the internal bus? Be interesting to see DF do some testing on this.

so external HDD really do load faster? I am talking about comparing HDD that are identical using internally vs externally

Heh. Now you can actually rename your local user accounts that don't use a PSN login. That used to annoy me a bit. Finally. Goodbye, User1!

It'll be similar to the testing that was done on Xbox one. I've run external SSD on Xbox one and now on my PS4 Pro yes it's much faster than the internal stardard drive not sure about SSD internal vs external on PS4 though but if the PS4 USB 3 bus is similar in performance to the Xbox Ones then it should be faster than the internal.

Does it make a difference if I have Beast Mode on for games such as Horizon or Nioh? Is there a chance for errors or should I leave it off if I don't play older games?

Makes no difference as both have a Pro Patch. I havent noticed any hickups while boost mode is on.
