PS5 cloud streaming launches this month for PlayStation Plus Premium members

Great news !
I use cloud/geforce now regularly with no issues, and I'm really happy about the 4k streaming.
I tried GeForce now here recently and was shocked at how good it was. There was no noticeable lag at all. If Sony's solution is similar, they have a winner on their hands and it makes premium totally worth it imo.

This is exciting news. Hopefully will be playing some PS5 games on my PC. I'm going to have to get the PS5 controller now.

Very cool. More options are never a bad thing.

EDIT - And you can stream your own library? Something Microsoft has been talking about enabling on the Xbox side for literally years but still hasn't arrived with xCloud?

EDIT 2 - And 4k/60fps??? Again, something xCloud is incapable of?

What in the fuck is MS doing over there?

I recently subscribed to Geforce Now Ultimate. Its a fantastic service, it now means that i can play Cyberpunk 2077 on max settings.

If Sony one day decides to allow this on the Portal.....

they're too busy buying studios 😝

Nah, 1080/60 but you don't really need 4k at that screen size. 1440p woulda been nice though as most performance mode games are around that res.
1080p is ok. It's what the PS remote play app does. I still wish it was a higher resolution though. Still better than 720p from the Xbox app.

Cool, i will definitely try it out. But i almost have no digital games, only physical. Hopefully there are some good games to try out.

Hmm, this is actually interesting. Just going to watch the video but I wonder if you can only do 4K on the PS5. The PC client (old PS Now code base) is shit at best but I might mean I don't have to buy a PS5 now.

Cool. Cloud gaming is the future.
I don't know if it's the future, as internet quality still seems to be an issue for most of the world, but I have used XCloud to try out a lot of games before downloading or when traveling and it's been pretty awesome. Haven't tried Geforce Now for a while, but used it for playing Civ 6 when I had a crappy GPU. It worked great and could handle tons of civilizations on large maps with everything maxed out. Unfortunately 2K took that game off Geforce and I haven't used it since. In terms of PS Plus Premium though I would only be interested if they were to put more of their first party exclusives on there. At $18 a month and missing half of their exclusive games I really don't see the point.

Cloud gaming on PS5 is awesome, PS3 games and PS4 games look great, it's a FAR better experience than xCloud. 1st, I never had to wait "a few minutes" (that can become 20, 30, 40 or a lot more minutes) unlike on Xbox... Xbox cloud really SUCKS and nobody seems to care about it.

If the PlayStation cloud works not only with Extra Service games but also with purchased games, doesn't this give Sony the opportunity to not only sell subscriptions but also to sell games from its store to people who don't have the console? I imagine they don't want a situation where no one wants to buy a PS console but I wonder what the possibilities are for this service to help Sony sell its games to mobile phone and PC users.

Having it only available on PS5 seems like a miss. Get this running on Android and PC. Get that app on TVs.
Then people wouldn't buy a PS5, I think thats the main reason they do that - they want you in their ecosystem. I guess they could do it only on Sony TV's? Sony Phones?

What's weird with that is, they don't have to get you to buy a PS5 to be in their ecosystem. They need you to buy the games in their ecosystem. So if they allow their cloud service on other platforms AND you still have to purchase the games (outside of the free ones), then you're still technically tied to Sony. They don't make much money on console sales anyway.

I'm starting to wonder if they have enough infrastructure to even handle this. The amount of people that would immediately sign up for this might be too much to handle and they only have so many server blades...

I should try this out in general. I was always fascinated with how well stadia worked. The PS one felt laggy in comparison. Playable for some games, but I wouldn't use it for most. Stadia wasn't perfecct but sruprisingly snappy. idk if they've improved this or not. I remember every time I've tied ps streaming, the ps3 games seemed more responsive, but ugly. The ps4 games looked clear, but laggy. That can't be right... Must have been me.

Nice. My PS5's been disconnected for a bit, but my Steam Deck is hopefully about to become my playstation device... Used it so much for XCloud and Geforce Now.

But we have cloud gaming services today but nobody really cares. How would time suddenly change that? If it isn't popular when it's new, why would it be later?
It's still in its infancy. But there will be a day when devs (and publishers for cost reasons) will rather make one build of a game that can be streamed on just about every device. That day will be glorious.

If you are spending money on playstation premium then you are giving Sony £120/$160 a year. You are also far more likely to keep that recurring.

Looking forward to see the feedback about the quality of the 4k stream.
This needs to be supported on the Portal though. It's not clear why on a PS5 people should prefer the streaming vs the download. Not enough ssd space? Surely if you have a connection good enough to stream you have one good enough to download.

Only on PS5, which is what I expected.

Sony wants you buying a PS5 to play PS5 games. They are not adopting the "play anywhere on anything" approach for now. I think it'll be years before they do.

I could see them expanding to Portal eventually but I don't think they'll really do that until most games can be played via streaming if purchased.

Well for example 40 mbps should be enough for 4K streaming but it would take at least 5 or 6 hours to download a 100 GB game.

Having game trials on streaming is going to be great. Everything else sounds great on paper but I need to see if the experience is good or not.

Meanwhile i still can't use cloud play on the PC as my country is not supported but they charged me full price for premium.

Can anyone explain the use case for this only being on PS5 consoles? What's the benefit is it simply for not having to download games to your ps5? If you have a physical ps5 why would you not download the games locally?

Great for trials of games I guess but that's niche. Maybe they don't have the systems to support pc access and want to scale out?

I built a intenl Nuc system for my living room and it has everything I need for media / cloud gaming and was really hoping this would be pc.

I'm sure it will come but this kinda blows since they been testing this for 6-8 months already

Feels like PS Premium really starting to take shape. My friend streamed far fry new dawn ps4 version the other day to help me with a few co op Trophies. Such a cool feature as there was no waiting 30mins for him to download and he didn't have to delete a game off his HDD to make space.

Trialing games is niche? This is great try-before-you-buy stuff. It's like bringing back demos.

Yeah but if you have the bandwidth to stream an hour or two worth of the game you probably could download the demo just as easily. Only real use for me I guess would be to save space

The interesting thing that it says is your digital library. That's actually significant.

To give you the option of remote play or the use of cloud servers, especially if the portal eventually allows you to play cloud gaming, could give you either a superior option in case of poor home networking and you're remote OR the ability to play your games via the cloud while someone is using your ps5 and I think that latter is actually quite significant.

Sony, you know what to do next.

Bring the service to Linux, webOS, iOS, and Android.
I have a Dual Sense controller I use for PC, but it also works great on my TV with GeForce Now/GamePass.

This is great but I was recently let down by streaming when it would have been most useful. They have a bug in their streaming API it seems.

I'm big into couch coop games and splitscreen. Usually I prefer to download my games and play locally but me and my gf had a guest who was into gaming and wanted to play. We looked for some 3 player games to play in my local library and played then we ventured into the PS+ Premium library to find some new games. What better way to let the guest find something to play quickly than streaming right? Wrong. Both his choices didn't work.

Both Sackboy and Moving Out 2 would hang if more than 2 people joined. In moving out 3 players would show but it would hang on a loading screen and in Sackboy the 3rd controller just didn't respond. This was 100% reproducible. 3 players and it would hang on a loading screen, less and it would get past it. I had to apologise to the guest and say we'll play the next time they come round as I started the download. When they had left and the downloads had finished I started the games to see if 3 players was bugged or it was the streaming API. 3 players worked fine locally. Anyway, thank you for your time reading about one of the few times that streaming without having to wait would have been handy and it let me down.
And if anybody from Sony is reading this they can file a bug report or something.
