PS5 needs its own 'Xbox All Access' program if it wants to beat Microsoft

I think around 2 years ago ,Xbox has during post holiday and holiday period in US All Access program. Didn't beat Switch nor PS4 during that period in NPD.

Nah.

Prior to PS4 and X1 launching, I remember many similar articles about how Sony needed a digital ownership plan to compete with Xbox.

Doesn't it make more sense to frame everything from the perspective of "Xbox needs its own [thing] if it wants to win" since Xbox brand consistently loses to others?

Beat them at what? Console sales? Ummm....

I really hope Sony continues to focus on traditional console gaming. I can see a future where MS decides a traditional console is not worth it anymore and I do not want the traditional console market to go away or only be left to Nintendo.

The shit still dont have any next gen games:messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:.... start there before you start the doom article. Are you shocked that ms have to give their newest console away for free?
Who wants to compete with free?

It's zero interest financing. Basically a free loan.

Some stores also offer this if paid off within an agreed time frame.

Mobile phones are also sold in the same way, hence the contract is a fixed period and you walk away with the phone at the end provided you've not missed a payment.

So a store loan/credit card?

Gotcha.

Never seen so many people so excited about debt being promoted like this.
Play Games, Not Coupons should be the new Xbox slogan. Seems like most Xbox stories these days are about price, about saving money, about locking yourself into a subscription...

...? Are we pretending most retailers don't already offer monthly payment plans on things over a certain price?

Oh look its the monthly sony is doomed thread. Sony doesnt have to do shit, they have the games and Xbox doesnt. If MS combines gold with gamepass, I can see Sony doing the same eventually, but as market leader they arent going to make that switch before MS does it.

If you pay it full before the interest rate kick in
Not true.

They really love to exaggerate the mind-share and relevance of Xbox. It's a great idea and could definitely get a few people on board but without the big-hitter games...

But I digress, PlayStation should indeed have a similar initiative but I think 100 to 150 down would be preferable.

Are you 10 years old? Playstation consoles average 120 million sold EVER generation. They don't need that crap.

Offering a finance scheme is better than a lot of first party exclusive games coming in the next few years?

What are you smoking OP?

Read it again! 2 yrs %0 interest
It is a fixed payment for 2 years at 0% APR. NO LATE FEES. There is no rate hike that incurs if you are late on payments or go past 2 years. I read all the fine print. It is probably the most consumer friendly loan I have ever seen.

Making a consumer friendly pricing option in the midst of a global pandemic when people are out of work is going a bit too far?
Thinking Sony needs to do this to "beat" MS. I think that's going a bit too far and I like the idea of All Access. But the market leader by a big margin especially overseas where its gangbusters doesn't need All Access to win again. That's a bit far imo. To each their own.

There is no interest, or hasn't been in the past. I'm sure the bank makes their cut via a discount on the GPU subscription. The 24 payments are always less than the cost of the retail unit plus 24 months of GPU at standard pricing (allowing them to make the 0% interest claim). Behind the scenes the bank probably pays a reduced rate for GPU and thus nets a nice profit.

I mean it increases the price of the One S by like 150$ and makes you the victim of pradatory credit fees if you miss payments not sure whats consumer friendly about that...

Is there going to be a credit check and/or deposit required? People who don't have funds available to buy the console outright likely cannot qualify for program due to bad credit

Why do people keep thinking that price is the only thing that keeps customers attached to a certain ecosystem? Is a $100 savings really enough to make you leave behind potentially thousands of dollars in games you've purchased, the friends you've made, the trophies/ achievements, game saves, etc.

I've never been heavily involved in a specific ecosystem and then jumped ship to an entirely different one cause I could save $100-$200. It is such a insignificant amount for what you're sacrificing in the grand scheme of things.

????????

A lot of people can just better accept the idea of making larger purchases over time. Granted a console isn't a very substantial purchase, but it is an entirely unnecessary expenditure (unlike a phone which is an obvious need).

It depends on how invested you are. Attach rates are as they are for a reason, most Gafers have a lot more software than the average attach for a console generation, on the flipside are individuals who only buy 3 or 4 games for a generation plus some F2P things. That second group isn't particularly loyal to anything.

Some of you are dense.

Stupid fucking take.

If it launches at 499 it will sell twice as many as Xbox, and you can take to the bank.

It doesn't increase the price. The price includes GamePass Ultimate.

I'm always amazed at the long list of things Sony must do in order to to have a chance at beating a competitor they already outsell by greater than 2:1

I think it will be quite a while before Sony can keep up with demand whether they have a similar program or not.

This says "up to 50 installments with 0% interest rate". Nothing special, a lot of stores do that. Don't you have it?

There aren't many offers in the states at 0%. You'll get some 0% same as cash no payments for X months type offers, but as soon as you don't pay the loan in full at the set time (you just opt to start making payments) all the accrued interest gets figured in. Terms as good as the All Access program are not easy to come by.

Whats the % interest payment here ?

for the xbox series s $25 a month for 24 months = $600
cost of the unit = $300 , 300 extra and forced to pay $12.50 a month for gamepass - does this seem like a really great deal to you ?

xbox series x $35 a month for 24 months = $840
cost of the unit = $500, $340 extra and forced to pay $14.17 a month for gamepass - again how is this a great deal ?

that $300 or $340 dollars is basically interest , if you want to give me a payment plan with 0% interest free credit spread over 24 months, sure ill bite.
force me to pay double the cost of the unit under a 24 month plan ? gtfo...

It's 0% interest. Trying to label GamePass Ultimate as "interest" is disingenuous.

Game Pass Ultimate is $15 a month. I guess you're the type of user that complains when a mobile carrier figures in the price of their service when subsidizing a phone. LOL

If you have no interest in Game Pass or Live Gold, this is not the offer for you.

If you plan is to get Gamepass for two year it's a great deal. But keep in mind after those 2 years if you cancel your subscription, you have 0 game to play with.
