Never had a PS3, PS4 or of course a PS5 controller's battery die on me.
A phone would benefit from having swappable batteries, cause that's alike a necessity that leaves the house, a game controller not so much. I doubt you'd want to have to remove your phone battery to charge it every time. If this is good enough for a phone it's more than good enough for a control pad.
like... how close minded can you get ?
It IS A FACT that lithium battery WILL DIE.
It will either loose capacity or straight out inflate like most. It's just a matter of time.
It does not care if you use it, charge often or not.
It is 100% guarantee that in years, all ps3, ps4 and ps5 controllers will at the very least loose capacity.
You say - not a big deal, my phone lasts 2 years.... and it looses 20-30% of it's capacity in these 2 years. Controller is a little better because it charges slower. But if they will bring fast charging to controllers, it's game over.
And You might not be able to source completely "NEW" dualsense battery in 20 years. There might be old stock batteries... which lost capacity in warehouses. Or there might be chineese knock offs... or there might not be anything.
Even if YOu are happy to open your controller.
And at the same time - You will be able to just take out your xbox series x 20th anniversary controller on xbox 50th anniversary, put some new AA bitches in there and go.
There are absolutely no drawbacks to AA powered controllers:
-You can use AA batteries
-AA batteries have higher capacity than internal ones. Xbox pads last me 40 hours. ps4 and dualsense up to 8. Cheap ikea pack got me covered for months
-You can use rechargables
-You can use official plug play battery pack to convert it into rechargeable controllers
You have all the choice in the world. And with Dualsense You have no choice. It have a terrible battery today. So imagine in 10 years.
Of course that is all in theory as my 360 controllers still work great ... except rubber just disintegrating on analog sticks
edit: And about your terrible phone comparison - cmon. You never had to take out the battery to charge it outside the phone lol. You had the option to do so and it was great. You could have 2 batteries and quick swap on a trip
