PS5 Price won't be cheap

Sony's PS5 isn't likely to be cheap, but the company's CEO Jim Ryan has said the next-generation console's price will be worth the premium.

Ryan told Gamesindustry.biz that he expects the PS5 to sell well even with the economic pressures many of the world's nations are under due to the coronavirus pandemic. But that indicates that the PS5 might be significantly more expensive than the PS4 was at launch.

"I think the best way that we can address this [economic challenges] is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don't necessarily mean [the] lowest price," said Ryan. "Recent history has told us that gaming is one of the pastimes, and one of the businesses, that benefits in economically difficult times."

Hmmm I am thinking $600 maybe more?

I stick to my guns with this. I think each console is worth 600 bucks easy, but I think they will be priced no higher than 499 (and both will be insane values at that price)

I still say 449 for PS5 and 499 for XsX

But just wanna say that if these consoles cost 600 bucks, or close to it, they are still outstanding values

That sentence doesn't mean it's gonna be expensive, it means the value will not only come from the console price.

Weaker console for the same price as the most powerful one? That would be a disaster.

Sony's just playing mind games with MS. Their strategy of flat-out abandoning the PS4 as far as new titles are concerned points to them wanting to get as many people as quickly as possible on the PS5. I'm guessing it's still $399.

It was not supposed to be cheap here lol
Basically a kidney price.

Anything below R$5000 will probably be considered "cheap" in the circumstances I guess.

Wher did you get that idea?

Reckon it'll be something like $529.99

It's clear that Sony themselves know they can't undercut MS, hence this announcement. And if they were launching at a higher price in the region of only $30 or so they wouldn't have mentioned it.

I'm guessing $400-450 for the Xbox and Sony launching in the region of $80-130 more.

Best scenario for everyone would be:
PS5 499
Xbox Series X 399-449

PS5 will sell out either way, but Xbox could really use the bump. In the end competition is good for all parties involved.

Yup. This is my guess too for Next Gen. Xbox gonna be cheaper. MS will be going in hard this time I think. Sony probably won't be able to afford that but unlike with the PS3 will at least deliver tempting games this time.

so you expect ms to just take a huge loss on each console just because? both consoles will be the same price

Both will be great value, at least hardware wise, and both sound like they should cost about the same to make.

$499 is my guess for both. Xbox might throw in a few months of Gamepass.

It wouldn't be a disaster as long as the games are there to justify the price and they will be, even if it's not day one

Regardless of the price, these few months have definitely been the secret ingredient for Sony's cocktease marketing strategies. A combo that's easily dealt double damage. A lot of folks have had nothing but time to draw up possible futures and imagine different things. Hopefully, those expectations won't end up getting away from them.

At the end of the day, they're all just relatively rectangular portals that aim to do the same thing: play games.
I'm honestly surprised all the hype's gone towards the hardware itself and not the software.
Hopefully, after things calm down after release, everyone gets back on track towards what really matters.

Hasnt Sony been saying this since the initial Wired article early last year. Something about it being a "Premium Device" so expect a premium price.

I honestly see it being the other way round price wise. I think that super fast SSD is gonna hit the cost
