Just got given a PS5 Pro for Christmas. Didn't want or need it, but I'm not one to turn down gifts so it's time to put it to use.

I'm already downloading a bunch of games that I own but want to get an idea of what I should be trying first.

What's everyone been most impressed by so far?

And are there any games that didn't get PS5 Pro upgrade patches that still perform and look much better by virtue of dynamic settings?

Stellar Blade looks spectacular, try that asap! 👍

Can’t say I’m super impressed about anything but I assume future 1st party games will target the Pro so it’s an investment for the games that gets too long PC port delays. And my old PS5 had coil whine (right in the tinnitus frequencies gaaah!) and the Pro does not so it’s making my life better even just when powering it on.

Demons Souls, HFW, FF7R, Stellar Blade, TLOU 1/2, SM, Ratchet

Basically can’t go wrong with the supported Sony first party games

Stellar Blade and FF7R probably have the most shocking upgrades since the base versions weren’t ideal, but look amazingly transformed on the Pro

Rebirth, Stellar Blade, DD2, and Forbidden West all offer very solid upgrades.

Incidentally rebirth was the first thing I downloaded, and I still think it looks a bit soft.

But in fairness, I'm making my way through remake part 1 again in native 4k on PC so that's probably contributing to me not being so impressed. Maybe I need to remind myself of how it looked on base PS5 before taking another look.

I'm most excited to try Demons Souls and Stellar Blade out of those. It's shocking how all these years later Demons Souls is still one of the best looking games available on the platform.

Time for me to buy that TLOU2 upgrade then.

How's Ghost of Tsushima, did that get an upgrade?

TGO

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
The Callisto Protocol which isn't even listed here 🙄
Other than that, Stellar Blade looks nice but I'm not sure how much of an upgrade that is, same with Horizon.
The rest looks worse than Quality Mode so not impressed by that.
Even TLOU looks better in Quality Mode with Frame Cap off which kinda makes the Pro mode redundant.
I think Devs may use the hardware better in future releases but at the moment it does seem like that slapped PSSR on the performance modes and called it a day.

Can only speak to the games i have played, but Spiderman 2, Stellar Blade, HFW and Rebirth are all solid upgrades.

Its less impactful though if you have a high end PC already.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Honestly I haven't really noticed shit. 90% of the time I don't even know what options to select since everything is so fuckin half-assed and confusing.

Hopefully it make Monster Hunter Wilds look and run better. Pretty much the primary reason I bought it. It's been whatever so far.

Stellar Blade, FF7 Rebirth and Horizon 2 (best IQ I've seen on console)

Wukong seems like a good update too. IQ is quite a bit better than the base model.

From what I've tried so far most games have a (or a couple of) clearly labelled pro modes.

They could have made it a bit clearer in Rebirth though, calling it "versatility" isn't exactly clear and obvious.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 with raytracing on would drop in the teens for framerate with magic effects going off runnin on base PS5. In order to get a proper 60 fps, you basically had to lower settings down that made it look like a PS4 title.

On the PS5 Pro? 60 fps the majority of the time with raytracing on. You do get dips, and in the capital it hovers around 45-50ish, but it’s a tremendous jump from the 10-30 you’d get on the PS5. Combat in the capital was like watching a slideshow on the base PS5 while the Pro earns its $200 premium with far better visual performance.

Dragon's Dogma 2, Veilguard and Space Marine 2 are all I've played so far and they are all great upgrades.

The Horizon games, Last of Us games, and Spider-Man games immediately come to mind. There are obviously more, but those are my top go to titles when showing off what this thing can do!

Also, GT7 in cockpit mode produces the best visuals of a vehicle in any game ever.....by a huge distance!

So far, I have only been playing Astro Bot and Metaphor: ReFantazio. I can't say I am putting it to the best use. I do have plenty of games I will get to eventually that should take better advantage of it.

This goes for more enhanced games but addition of PSSR to replace fsr2 or ue TAU is fantastic.
No more occlusion build-up, pixelation break up and so on.
These examples are with motion blur but it proves the point. Hair is moving, so it's dithered and stuff reveled by moving hair is also dithered.
Compared to 2nd image, the game looks cleaner and runs 20fps faster.

Gotta say, FF16, even without a pro patch, is miles, MILES better on the Pro, we're talking about a 15 to 20 FPS difference here in most scenarios AND with a better image quality/higher res even in performance mode, game is actually playable now without dropping to slideshow levels like on the base console.

Since the team has been disbanded It won't receive a pro patch (Plus, square enix isn't happy with its sales probably) and it's a shame, still, I'll take these gains over 0 gains 😉

It is what it is unfortunately, still, the differences are there and very visible so I guess it's a win for the Pro

Last of Us Part I Remake in Pro Mode looks phenomal!! the real time lighting effects add sooo much and all the reflection details (probably, ray Tracking) are amazing to watch

also BF2042 with 128 Players chaos mode runs butter smooth, really fun to play with a pro

Nothing I have seen so far is impressive about the PS5 pro in terms of upscaling. no disrespect to anyone who bought it. I am sure you are enjoying it.

I was hoping the PSSR to be better than DLSS given all these years they had the chance to work on ( and to bring the competition up to Nvidia and AMD for a better image quality upscaler ).

but it seems its not the case. and from the leaks about an enhanced DLSS for 5000 series, it will make the image difference even bigger ( assuming these rumors are true ).

However, I would say stellar blade is probably the best upgrade over the basic PS5 is stellar blade maybe ?

Stellar blade is a straight image quality and performance upgrade. No downsides.
Dragons dogma 2 I suppose.
hogwarts is image quality increase
Rebirth is probably the biggest difference compared to base game too

Some of this stuff looks really good but maybe doesn't translate well to screenshots.
Silent hill 2 is trash now. Worse than on base

Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster actually, but also because for some reason it's the best version of the game on any platform by far.

PSSR left me floored in TLOU Part I (Part II has awful shadows issues in Pro mode) and Ragnarok. Actual 4K detail at 60fps. Only the former is present on the list, so I voted for that one.

Most impressive brute force upgrade has been in framerate for RE2R in RT Mode now at solid 60fps. Game is absent so I voted for RE4R which now also runs at stable 60fps in RT, Res, Hair Strands mode. Same for DMC5, now best version of the game in general as well.

Best IQ in general probably Forbidden West, as there's no other way I can describe other than perfection, although I saw no issues with Ragnarok either to be honest. FB is also visually the best version of the game on any platform, an extra reason behind the vote.

Impressive IQ for Spider-Man Remastered, but have yet to buy Ratchet and SM2.

Haven't yet played on it Space Marine 2, FF VII Rebirth, Stellar Blade, GT7 and Demon's Souls.

With this thread I was actually hoping to hear from owners of the console who have had the chance to try a few games out. Everything else has been discussed to death by now (especially regarding PSSR, myself included).

What games have you tried on it?

Sadly no

HD2 has a patch in development though

That's a shame. Just grabbed HD2 for PC then since I want to try and grab the killzone stuff.

Haven't yet played on it Space Marine 2, FF VII Rebirth, Stellar Blade, GT7 and Demon's Souls.

Didn't realise Ragnorak was pro enhanced, will give that a go then.

Have you got details on the shadow issues with TLOU part 2? I take it that's in the performance mode?

Still experimenting and there are still games like Space Marine, GT7 and Ratchet that I haven’t even tried yet, but so far these games impressed me the most and imo solid upgrades over the PS5.

Stellar Blade
FF7: Rebirth
TLOU2: Remsastered
Demons Souls
Horizon: FW
Dragon Age: Veilguard
Spiderman 2
Lies of P

Do consider I’m on an older OLED TV also. I can only imagine what the Pro would look like on a newer OLED TV like the LG G4 or something.

I didn't try any game. I just watched every digital foundry release of the PSSR compared to other upscalers.

the only game that I actually saw with my eyes was stellar blade on my friend's ps5 pro. it looked nice compared to how previously i remember playing it on base PS5.

I'm pretty confident answer is 0.

Ragnarok was super impressive to me.
Comparisons on the fly with TAA especially as PSSR in motion is night and day. Looks like actual 4K, pristine and crisp and microdetailed on granular level, with Quality Mode features now at 60fps as well if I'm not mistaken. Best version of this title.

Wish I liked the game enough for another playthrough. Maybe in time.

Every version of the game now has inferior sun shadows compared to how they were on PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS5 at launch. IQ is stunning, but something's wrong with shadows. I just have to assume the original version soft shadows pass relied on their TAA implementation or something of this nature, and I'm pretty confident the TAA implementation has been altered even on regular PS5 with the latest updates as sun shadows don't look as good as they were before, and are just broken by using PSSR Mode (which again, has incredible IQ, better than Native 4K Fidelity):

By the way, I highly recommend this YouTube channel.
