PS5 shipments top 77.8 million

With games from big third party devs like Microsoft.
That 30% cut is doing wonders for them. It's why it's important to have strong first and third party support for your console. It's also important to have a healthy console brand as the console acts as a front for your digital store where you can sell all these games on.

Comparing revenue is pointless
It's not. It shows who controls the market and flow of money in the industry. Revenue is how you determine who the market leader is and can also show how healthy a brand is especially if profits are also good, which is also the case for Playstation….

You're quoting a graph focusing on profits, not revenue, making my point valid

Your point is still not valid. Both profits and revenue are incredibly high for Playstation. The brand is incredibly strong and they are the market leader. I don't know what point you're trying to make but you're not invalidating the original graph I posted.

The point I tried to make: for these three, comparing revenue is a bit pointless as Sony and MS spend 10$ to earn 12 (or, in Xbox's case, 10.80$) while Nintendo spend 5$ earn 8$. At the end, Nintendo has 3$ while Sony has 2$ and Xbox has almost 1$. So if you only focus on the revenue, you'd thought the bigger the better, but not always true

I don't know if it helps making my point, otherwise nevermind, it's not that important

Revenue is more important metric as it shows share of market. Market share shows you position and power leverage and it's much harder to obtain as you need to eat out other shares or explore uncharted. Profit on the other side is much simpler metric to grow - do some cost cutting, cut back expansion and experiments, do some review and restructure in their place (focus more on internal business processes than on external) and profit will rapidly rise.

It what Sony did - growth slowed down last 2 years but profit suddenly shot up and now Sony has both revenue and profit from it

And Nintendo... Yes it's still has profit margin but revenue falled drastically so is profits and now they are really down and below Sony even though they make more on 1 dollar of sales

The PS5 is an absolute juggernaut.

Looks like MS already lost like 1.5 bil of revenue post acquisition. Not exactly what I would call success

I guess you're right

Did you ever see Microsoft buying something successful and turning into more success ?

Sony fans celebrating hardware sales, meanwhile it's almost June and there are no new games from Sony this year lmao
Oh yeah, let's compare year 4-5 of the PlayStation 5 with year 8 of the Switch, which has pretty much already ended the development cycle for new games. Why don't you compare it to year 4-5 of the Switch?

And I'm not excited at all for Kojima's pretentious boringness, thanks
How could I forget these masterpieces? I can't wait to play Days Gone again with a blue filter... I mean, Days Gone remastered!

  • Astro's Playroom (2020)
  • Returnal (2021)
  • Destruction AllStars (2021)
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure (2020) <-- not sure if it should count since sackboy was a ps3 game but whatever
  • Steller Blade? ChatGPT didn't add that. but i think the team is Sony's second-party studio and the game was published by Sony so it does count.

in general. the PS5 list is shit ( again, just talking about new IPs. nothing has to do with amazing games like GT7 or Ratchet and clank on PS5 ) does not include games like spider man or horizon zero dawn because these were PS4 new IPs.

Where are the PS5's new IPs? exactly... Sony is pathetic. and I hope it does come and bite them in the ass at one point.

Mother of God, you are adding all the second party games in the other generations, while specifically removing them from this one, and adding PS Eye and Move Games while removing the VR2 games.

People that are driving sales the most are FIFA/FC, COD, Fortnite etc. crowd. They are happy with whatever dogshit content for their favorite games drop.

You are on a hardcore gaming forum, people here want the best gaming has to offer and Sony was one of the top publishers before...

Also this:

1T3vyyU.jpeg
That's basically telling the ps5 is cannibalizing PS6 future numbers.

Sony releases some fucking crumbs for their fans:

tinytim-tim.gif

Fanboys: "Best console ever", "Increase the prices even more Uncle Hiroki!", "I'm glad Xbox is dead, now Sony can do nothing with more style!".
So ignore it my friend.

You don't need to rage in every single thread. If you don't like them anymore then they should be losing your business quietly.

You losing your shit whenever PS5 Pro or PSSR gets mentioned is just you raising your blood pressure over nothing because they're not going to even acknowledge it.

Yeah that 2 million drop means it selling more. Can't wait for the eventual price increase to give it a boost.
That's not how console sales work. They sell gradually more up until year 3/4 and start to slow down. It's the case for pretty much every console, unless there are some oddities (like the Xbox Series sudden drop after 2022).

So you admit the sales are slowing down then. It's year 5 for ps5 now. They're about to increase the price. No way they match PS4 sales since that thing got down to 200 bucks one time. Keep fighting the good fight though.

PlayStation's most successful failure?

I mean, I haven't had a reason to touch my PS5 in over a year. I have nothing to look forward to for it, either.

I'm not complaining, just don't know what's going on for any of the consoles (besides Nintendo) to sell this much.
Do you have a PC or an Xbox?

Now do it with Nintendo. To see what new IPs they made for the Switch and the other consoles.

They even forcasted that (and they still sold more than what they had in their forecast), there is nothing to admit, it's the facts.

But I don't see it not reaching PS4 level of sales

Keep fighting the good fight though.

Come on there is nothing to fight about it, it's not important, our discussion doesn't even matter

That acquisition spree will be known in time as one of the biggest value destruction events in the gaming biz both from a creative and financial standpoints.

Close to 100 billion spent and with almost no new big IP to speak of, almost no new exclusivity for Xbox players to speak of, and likely with reduced revenue and likely higher losses for the combined entities.

Tbf due to massive supply constraints, it could in a way be seen as year 3 of this gen for mainstream.

This caused a massive hurdle for current-gen adoption.

"Everything" = A single game
Yes, it's my fault for wanting more games and variety. How could I question the goddess Sony and their lack of in-house games?

Don't you want more games? Do you think it's normal for Sony to go so long without publishing new games and, when they do publish one, it doesn't even end up being developed internally or an IP of their own? So if I don't like DS2, I just wait another 6 months? Sony has over 20 studios bro, c'mon.

Sometimes I think I like Sony's games more than you do, because I want games from their studios (excluding bombs like Concord and woke crap) and they take forever. I don't know who decided that Sony publishing 1-2 new games per year from their studios/IPs is "ok", it's sucks.
That's why they have 2nd party and 3rd party exclusives to pad it out.

This is industry wide BTW. Microsoft launched without an exclusive and took a year to crap out one. Outside of their acquisitions(Bethesda/AKB), their output has been worst of all time.

Nintendo takes quite long with their legacy franchises and now that they have more power will take EVEN longer with no Wii U ports to ease the blow.

You really think I'm stressed over this? I gave up on idea that Sony might go back to their former glory quite some time ago. They are just another soulless corporation at this point.

I rarely post in threads like this where fanboys are jerking off to sales stats. But I also know how my opinions trigger some people so it's interesting to see some responses, hahaha.

I invested too much into the ecosystem (since 2009) to gave up on it entirely. PS5 is very useful for some things, Pro is a weak upgrade but still an upgrade and fixes most IQ flaws standard PS5 have. DS2, GoY and (obviously) GTA6 were my main reasons to upgrade console + nice deal I found and disc drive at MSRP.

You also need to understand when people talk in general terms to make a point.
Yes, it's my fault for wanting more games and variety. How could I question the goddess Sony and their lack of in-house games?
The fact that they're very clearly releasing games that don't appeal to you like Death Stranding 2 and MLB The Show 25 speaks on the variety of their output.
Don't you want more games? Do you think it's normal for Sony to go so long without publishing new games and, when they do publish one, it doesn't even end up being developed internally or an IP of their own?
They have published two new games already (Midnight Murder Club and MLB The Show 25), and one of them was developed by an internal studio.
So if I don't like DS2, I just wait another 6 months? Sony has over 20 studios bro, c'mon.
It's literally a (you) problem and Sony doesn't have over 20 studios.
Sometimes I think I like Sony's games more than you do, because I want games from their studios (excluding bombs like Concord and woke crap) and they take forever. I don't know who decided that Sony publishing 1-2 new games per year from their studios/IPs is "ok", it's sucks.
That's the result of Sony not having a large internal worforce and working with external studios to boost the output, it's been like this since the PS1 days and it's why they're publishing 7 new games (that we know of) this entire year, with 3 of them actually being from internal studios, which is more than what you suggested.
Also... using the internal studios argument when you're a Nintendo fanboy is so funny, as if it's not the same case with them.

and you still bought a PS5 Pro.

I'm against Sony porting their games to PC, but when I look at people like you and Gaiff...I think it might be true what some people like Shawn Layden say, that the porting does no harm to PlayStation. I mean, PC gaming is for doofuses with money to spare, so it shouldn't be that surprising.

He's another green rat, most likely a banned alt.
Hello emote guy, my biggest fan on this forum

What's the next baseless assumption you're going to make just because I criticized your beloved Sony?

You don't have to take it personally just because I don't have the same enthusiasm for games like Days Gone Remastered or MLB as you do

It's their favourite (only) tactic. To claim that everyone who doesn't display slavish Mibu no ookami levels of devotion to Sony must automatically either be an alt or an undercover MS employee or both.
