PSA: iOS7 users hating the slower animations. 7.0.3 allows you to disable them.

Crap, I liked disabling parallax for the battery but I don't like the fading. Guess I'm turning Reduce Motion off and seeing how it actually impacts my battery usage.

Takes the same amount of time it seems
Placebo effect?

Absolutely not. Ignoring the animation hitching that can take place even on the 5S at times, it's obviously faster when opening apps. It may take the exact amount of time before you have control, but the entire screen is visible to you instantly with the fade animation while you have to wait for the zoom animation to complete before you can focus on anything.

I had reduce motion on because I didnt like the parallex wallpaper effect.. noticed 7.0.3 got rid of more animation right away. Kinda miss all the zooming back and forth with icons though.

Exactly this, easier to hit your target when you can see it quicker

Phone feels about 50% faster when opening apps.

Now they only need to make scrolling in task manager interruptible.

I really doubt it. When unlocking the phone that zoom out animation was particularly slow. Now you can tap and launch the app literally the moment you unlock the phone.

This is pretty great; it's what I wanted Reduce Motion to do all along. I'm not sure if it's faster, though it feels that way.

There's no real speed difference, it just changes the animation. Nothing to see here, folks.
It's definitely faster when you unlock the phone+launch the app. I just tried both ways. Especially for apps near the edges of the screen, that you have to wait longer to zoom out. Although I think the unlock/zoom animation might be slightly faster than before.

*edit* Someone measured time savings: http://blog.gsmarena.com/are-the-animations-in-ios-7-too-slow/

Code:
Reduce Motion off on
Closing an app 0.74s	0.63s
Unlocking the phone	1.61s	1.00s

I've put reduce motion on not because I don't like the animations, but because I hate the parallax effect. I wish you could turn just that off. On my 4S the effect is jerky and delayed when my iPhone moves and it continues to bug me.

I'm the opposite. I like the parallax (the moving icons over the background, right?), but I don't care for the fade or transition animations. They're too slow and it feels like it's taking nearly a second longer to get places after I press the Home button or click an App.

I'd be cool with both if the animations and transitions were faster.

Also wondering why iOS 7 didn't disable Cover Flow for music in landscape mode. Only reason I have portrait mode locked.

How about they fist he keyboar delay issue instead?

CASE IN POINT.

So much this. The keyboard lag on my iPad 2 is fucking horrendous. And before someone says "iPad 2? Go buy the new iPad Air!" - The iPad 2 is still part of the lineup and I'm surprised how much leeway Apple gets with support for their old models.
Saw this in my feed yesterday, does it help anyone who has the keyboard lag?

That's a really strange solution. How is the keyboard input affected by iCloud data backups? Isn't DeanCorp a joke account?

Apple are being really annoying about this. The parallax effects are ugly and tacky, and I appreciated being able to turn them off. But now I can only get rid of the parallax if I get rid of every other effect too, which weren't so bad.

It kind of reminds me of their attitude to wards the terminally ugly 3D dock. At least you could get rid of that with a hack. Only now they've ruined the 2D dock too.

Is it? I only saw someone retweeting this so I don't know.

Looking at his history it seems like it's not a joke account. The solution just seemed so ass-backwards that I assumed it was a joke.

"Having input lag on you iPad? Just download Cut the Rope and three-star all the levels. The input lag is still there, but now you've played so much Cut the Rope that you have tunnel vision and don't notice the lag."

Whether the speed is actually better and not just in my head, the update and turning reduced motion on makes my iPhone 4 feel generally faster to use.

The option to turn off all effects already existed for iPhone4 users. When I updated everything was still off by default. No change for me.

Yeah, iOS is finally Android
Disabling animations for faster user experience.
Animations were fine pre ios 7, apple just went and fucked it up by lengthening them choosing visual flourishes over usability. They really need to cut the animation time down to pre ios 7 levels, it adds nothing to the user experience for me.

OS has killed my iPhone 5. I'll have 80% charge then an hour later the phone will be off. When I turn it back on it's 0% battery and needs charging.

I never leave apps on and disable Wifi when I'm not using it.

What in the flaming fuck? My phone is all slow now when opening apps and I already had the reduce motion on.

Seriously, the phone doesn't feel snappy at all.

I understand the timing is probably the same, but the phone loses that fast feeling without the animation now.

Woo! Getting my 5s and upgrading to iOS7 for the first time - will disable that slow shit asap!

I never had, or at least somehow managed to completely miss repeatedly, the "reduce motion" option before the 7.0.3 update on my iPhone 4. There's was no "motion" effects on the 4 to turn off anyway till this update which is why it wasn't there, turned it on and now everything feels much quicker.

Got my phone up to 7.0.3, disabled needless animations which are now replaced with a smooth fade every time.

It is an improvement. Commendable.

I went into this thinking "I dont feel like its THAT slow. I like the animations" and checked it out for curiosity's sake. I am a convert. The fade is nice looking and it feels snappy. I'm in

Tried it out yesterday but I still like both the Parallax and the zooming animations, I think it gives much better context when surfing through the OS

I was ok with the animations. Wish that they would speed up depending on the speed of your phone instead of being set to some laggy shit level.
