PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

But what you wrote is completely false.

Huh, funny that.

Oh wow, these people are silly little children.

Btw, I'm no computer expert, but DDoS attacks just means overloaded servers, right? And not account info being compromised? Either way I'm removing my cc info from PSN the first chance I get, but would still like to know for sure.

Thats a good idea for any service, especially if there are other means of funding such as instant PSN funding cards.

Sony did already have a major break in, but no one is really truly safe anymore. Ask Target, or TJ Max, or a whole host of other companies.

They cheap out IT thinking they're safe enough, when in reality you;re only paying to mitigate issues as much as possible when you're targeted.

That said, this isn't a security issue.

Mother F#Y$ers, I just bought a digital version of PS4 Pinball Arcade and sold my physical copy on Ebay due to the PSN sale. I wasn't sure I bought the right version and when I went to play it kept just saying "attempting to activate". I thought it was because I had conflicting files with the disc version so I deleted both the save and the install file. This is before I saw the DDoS attack. I hope my save is in the cloud..

Right, but when there's a problem with my car, I don't assume that the car is a defective piece of junk. I assume something went wrong with it. I don't assume anything else, unless I get a recall notice.

People ASSUMING that this is a hack are definitely being ignorant, and I'm not sure why you are defending ignorance.

some people are missing the main point of my post regardless of them assuming that i'm defending customer's who do not know the difference between a DDoS attack and general term of "hack".

my main point is that, regardless of why PSN went down, whether it be a DDoS attack, hack, or some guy spilled his morning coffee on a magic power button on a west coast server grid.

All the customer sees is that they cannot connect to PSN. They go through normal network diagnostics of checking if the wifi on their phone works. after this, your perfect statement of "something went wrong with it" is the perfect analogy for the situation.

the main reason i'm posting is because it seems that there is an arguement present that "its a DDoS attack so i have no reason to blame Sony for this".

the average joe doesn't know what a DDoS attack is so most likely terms the situation as a Hack. The average consumer thinks "something went wrong at Sony". PR at Sony knows this is what they think too, regardless of what the minority at GAF are saying. Some of us here aren't the "general consumer" and are more inclined to know whats actually going on, I'm assuming that you think 100% of PS4 owners should have your level or knowledge to come up with this opinion as well. If this were the case, I'd have no job

DDoS attacks aren't hacking, are they? Isn't it just where they overload and crash the servers? Let's not give these dickheads more credit than they deserve.

Edit - I'm referring to the quote in the OP which says they're a hacker group.

EU PSN - except for the store - works. Still can't play Garden Warfare, it says it can't reach EA Servers...

Eh, I think things are getting worse. A few hours ago, the store actually worked, I could access it via the PS4 and PC (can't access the SEN store now, keeps loading). Now even the store doesn't work on consoles?

Do a internet connection test, it will most likely crap out during the PSN sing-in test.

The issue is the leap from "Oh they're being DDOS'd today for all we know they could be hacked next weak" is an absolutely absurd leap of "logic".
It's not like it's unprecedented.

And maybe I sound a little out of control. But not being able to access my account info makes me nervous and a bit twitchy, hence my borderline frantic tone.

Smart man. Its just a pain in the ass to enter it in every time you want to purchase something. But I guess you could give that a first world problem hash tag.

Yeah, it does. And good. Its always a good idea not to store card data even though it may be inconveniencing to put it in.
Okay cool. The funny thing is I knew not to put in my info, but due to laziness and stubbornness I said, "screw it!" and stored my cc info anyway because it was (as mentioned) inconvenient to put it in every time. I'll use this attack as a warning.

I connect to the EA servers but there is practically no one online anyways since everyone else is having trouble. I'm US for PSN

Sooo why are they also targeting Blizzard and Path of Exile?Did they give any other reasons than"lulz".Although it would be funny if those guys following them on twitter because of this were also players of the affected games.

So Kuffar can't play their favourite Games o/

Cause attacking a Japanese company for American politics makes so much sense when there is a lovely big American console company.

Guess he/they were wanting to affect the bigger install base.

Could be. But I would imagine trying to DDOS MS would be as tough as trying to DDOS google because I hear they have created software and service specifically to stop DDOS.

Nothing is completely safe either and hearing news like Feb's 400Gbps DDOS attack, simply goes to show that the numbers these companies have to fend off are pretty huge.

They should hack Microsoft's 90 billion dollars and transfer to Isis. Maybe that way when we blow up Isis we will recover the money and put it back into the economy. That should work

What a bunch of idiots. Isis is scum and they are aligning themselves with them?

lol, kids

i imagine this is as big as there sphere of influence will ever get, so they're reveling in it. pretty childish and dumb thing to do, and they'd be better off using their summer vacations to exercise and get some sun in.

Are they claiming they're doing it for ISIS on all of them, or just Sony?

I think its a joke and you shouldnt take it seriously. Like they are using that to get people to ignore what they are doing and blame that other group. It a bunch of kids most likely that are not related to terrorist organizations.

Is this group really associated with ISIS? I'm picturing FBI/CIA coming down hard on these guys now because of the tweets and busting in and finding some nerdy ass kids who start crying it was just some big joke.

Do you know how many times Blizzard has been DDoS'd like this in just the past couple years? (Hint: A shitton)

Have they ever been hacked on any large scale in the past few years? No.

DDoSing happens. Its shitty. Its stupid. Its nothing to worry about (per se).
