PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

Dunno if related but Battle.Net was out for a bit last night. Maybe they got DDoS too.

psn hacked = our accounts are useless for a period of time and data at risk
psn ddos'd = our accounts are useless for a period of time but data is not at risk

I mean at least part of the outcome is similar but c'mon peeps. Doesn't gaf strongly "encourage" ya to read at least part of a thread before replying? This kinda stuffs been brought up on each page for a good whiles now.

btw PS4's sounding annoyingly complicated by some of the posts here. Is there no option to not have it try to sign in automatically at startup like PS3? Having ta pull the ethernet cord or worse, switch off your modem seems super inconvenient just to play single player stuff O.o

Has Xbox live ever been hacked? Seems weird you can seemingly only hack psn.

Why didn't they hack Nintendo instead?! Or Steam, or Ouya...
These hackers need to be dealt with, asap. But Sony is also at fault for being hacked so easily. This would've never happened with XBL.

Screw those hackers.
I rarely ever hear these kind of attacks happening to other forms of online. It's really rather odd.

DDos, hack, or whatever. I don't care, I'm not using my card on PSN anymore. Strictly PSN cards or my Google wallet card. The sad thing is, for most of these clowns this is just practice. These same "hackers" will be Network security for Sony and other major corporations in the future.

Do you know how many times Blizzard has been DDoS'd like this in just the past couple years? (Hint: A shitton)

Have they ever been hacked on any large scale in the past few years? No.

DDoSing happens. Its shitty. Its stupid. Its nothing to worry about (per se).

Blizzard was compromised in the past year where account info was taken off the servers.

Also, if you think your info isn't already out there at this point you are either incredibly wishful or born in the past year (maybe not even then)

There isn't much we will be able to do other than attaining new identities and rendering our existing ones useless. But even then, those would probably used forever

I think they're just taking the piss as they stated numerous reasons already. But linking it to ISIS isn't the smartest prank to make.

Can't Start tlou Form disc, game stops in the first loading screen before the naughty dog Logo. And I can't access the game for the next week. Fuck my life. I hope they get their asses whooped for this cyber terrorism. Nvm, just took 10mins to load. Carry on, then.

I just went in to the settings and unchecked the "Connect to the Internet" box.

be like my aunt and try to put zero personal information on the internet ever

And they will only grow stronger.

With all the people who have been trolling Microsoft after their X1 reveal I'm surprised no one tried this on them. Or I wonder if countless people try but they are just more prepared for DDOS attacks to happen?

they also dos gw2,wildstar,runescape,brazzers

they also dos krip last night and one of the devs from blizzard who was gonna stream

There's a big difference between correcting someone and berating them for not knowing. I'm pretty sure that's the point the poster was trying to make.
I did not berate him/her. If TheChewyWaffles feels berated because someone got annoyed becuase TheChewyWaffles did not read thread or try to understand what was actually going on, then TheChewyWaffles can try and defend him/herself. Personally, I feel that TheChewyWaffles deserved all the flak...not berating...flak he got for following post.
Pretty much. And some of you are taking it personally that people are ignorant, too. Get a grip.

These guys were hitting wow servers last night and one even logged in to his wow toon (or a wow toon) and dueled a steamer since they were hitting the wow servers because of the streamer. If it actually was a lizard squad script kiddie wow account, it would be the dumbest thing he could have done

The Sunday truce has been around as long as the game itself, man. I mean, you know what I'm saying? You can do some shit and be like what the fuck, but hey, NEVER on no Sunday, man.

I have to agree with you. I'm sure other online networks are just more prepared for these kind of attacks.

some people are missing the main point of my post regardless of them assuming that i'm defending customer's who do not know the difference between a DDoS attack and general term of "hack".

my main point is that, regardless of why PSN went down, whether it be a DDoS attack, hack, or some guy spilled his morning coffee on a magic power button on a west coast server grid.

All the customer sees is that they cannot connect to PSN. They go through normal network diagnostics of checking if the wifi on their phone works. after this, your perfect statement of "something went wrong with it" is the perfect analogy for the situation.

the main reason i'm posting is because it seems that there is an arguement present that "its a DDoS attack so i have no reason to blame Sony for this".

the average joe doesn't know what a DDoS attack is so most likely terms the situation as a Hack. The average consumer thinks "something went wrong at Sony". PR at Sony knows this is what they think too, regardless of what the minority at GAF are saying. Some of us here aren't the "general consumer" and are more inclined to know whats actually going on, I'm assuming that you think 100% of PS4 owners should have your level or knowledge to come up with this opinion as well. If this were the case, I'd have no job

I'm not really quite following what your argument is here, but here:

i dont even know what DDOS stands for. really its not my responsibilty to know.

just like its not my responsibility to know why my brand new car has a check engine light on.

the general consensus is that something is wrong with the engine when a check ENGINE light comes on when actually the gas cap was not tightened and your leaking from the evap system

you said it's not your responsibility to know what DDOS stands for. And you are correct, it is not your responsibility to know. But if you don't know, it is also your responsibility to assume nothing about the situation. You don't go posting around in ignorance.

Instead we have people coming here who are ignorant about the facts, making assumptions about whether or not this was a hack. That is just plain dumb.

Also, you made a comment about how people getting on others for not knowing about what DDOS stands for shouldn't talk unless they know what their car problems are here:

it was a figure of speech to support my main point that: hack or ddos attack, it does not change what end consumer sees on their screen when they play their ps4. If we're on the subject of willful ignorance, i suggest you then go learn all of the possible DTCs your car can set when the CEL comes on

You are assuming that we go onto car forums and talk ignorantly about cars. Actually, think of it this way. If people were going onto car forums and making ignorant comments about their car problems, wouldn't you correct them?
