PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

This makes it sound like you think ms are paying these guys to give sony bad rep. xbox live has always been more stable then psn through its entire life cycle, servers are microsofts bread and butter so it's not surprising.

Last gen ppl could accept that because multiplayer was free on ps3 , but this time now users are paying they have a lot higher expectations.

Ok so since your paying for PSN it should be immune to DDoS?

Can't believe this thread has turned to sales, conspiracy theories, and Xbox supporters "concerned" over the Destiny launch complete with "all my friends" anecdotal.

Love ya' GAF!

ok so if you want to wait for evidence then where is that evidence live was attacked. they has some problems that day which could have had nothing to do with a attack. we have a tweet from a jackass and that is not proof.

and why is me saying that someone can take down live with DDoS a tale from my ass?? there is no way to stop a DDoS that I know of? Regardless I stated its just speculation so whats the problem. there are plenty of people going on about how live is immune to a DDoS attack without proof

First of all, there isn't going to be great evidence. Here is the best you can do for the time being:

Xbox Live

PSN

Xbox spikes the same time as the initial attack when PSN spikes, but clearly drops as the Azure servers adjust.

Secondly, the burden of proof is on you since you are the one making wild, baseless, conspiratorial claims.

It's like me saying 'President Obama is a lizard in disguise!', you say 'Well, there is no evidence to support that', then I say 'Well, there is no definitive proof that he ISN'T!'.

Assuming that Sony is still using Prolexic (so claim lizsec), can anyone round up a listing of their current client list?

They haven't changed their content deliver service right? Which is Akamai and they acquired Prolexic so that should be what Sony is using right? So i think they are right in what they say.

Client wise there isn't much info aside from their website -

http://www.prolexic.com/customers.html

Their partners -

No shit it's different but you're telling me Sony never entertained the idea that someone could ddos them and shut PSN down? After the hack you would think that they would have went and planned and prepared for every possible situation including a ddos attack. Yes it's different but when you're examining your security for your service you probably want to look at all possibilities so that you don't have any downtime or at least a drastically reduced downtime in the future be they hacks, ddos attacks, etc.

That is adorable.

You realize it's not possible right? You also have to consider the cost vs importance of the security measures. It's not the Pentagon or something. It's a gaming service. Protections are likely in place to prevent most actual hacks and data theft, but not every single flavor under the sun. Nothing is hack proof anyway.

As far as DDoS is concerned, the way out was explained to me by a security user I support is that with most companies it's not utilized unless they're threatened, or actively under attack. It's all based on what is actually being protected.

MS does far more than just gaming, so it makes sense that they integrate it into their existing infrastructure that's going to encompass their business stuff and other important things. If MS had come from a different market from their inception their setup would be a lot different.

Wow, what has this thread become? To think some people claimed it wasn't a carnival of stupid pages ago; I beg to differ, lol.

Anyhow, is this guy still at it on day three? No word from the CIA/FBI about the bomb threat yet?

If there is any good news to come of this for me it's that I have been on the verge of picking up Diablo 3 or PvZ knowing full well that I will drop both as soon as Destiny comes out

If you think about it many of the computers DDOSing PSN were running Windows so personally I hold Microsoft responsible even if they didn't order the attack themselves.

Well isn't this a coincidence or is it? Next week the Xbox One officially launches here and now PSN is getting hammered again? Looking at MS' track record (netscape anyone?) I seriously wonder if this is JUST a coincidence

Thanks. This was the post I was waiting for since the weekend. Amazing.

Pretty much this. You cannot be 100% safe from DDoS if you're a non-financial or government firm. The cost / benefit isn't worth it.

Same for me. Was gonna go with D3 this time but now im just gonna wait it out til Destiny in a few weeks instead.

Looks like lizard squads twitter may have just got shut down. I don't know if it's something to do with browsing from my GFs phone but all the tweets are no longer appearing.

this is still ongoing? I really want a ps4 as someone who supports all platforms, but between all the psn problems last gen, security issues, and this, I gotta say I'm hesitant to jump in. gotta give ms some credit, their infrastructure is rock solid.

Fuck.. lol ppl are dumb.

Hey bro who do I have to suck off to get that Gaf Gold tag? I'm getting sick of my tag and see that shiny GAF GOLD tag. I needs it.

My friend thinks the bomb claim situation is funny specifically because it happened to the SOE president. Face palm.

It's not funny.

.....but I would've laughed my ass off if Lizard said "This is for the Rathe Council!" when they made the threat.

So this entire thread is:

"PSN is down because DDOS attack"
"Why is Sony's network so weak?"
"It's not Sony's fault, could happen to anyone"
"but LIVE was attacked too, and it's still up.."
"Then why don't you marry LIVE if you love it so much, fanboy!"

And it's been already told why XBL is harder to knock down: MS has Azure, they have one of the biggest server infrastructures in the world. Scriptkiddies can't kill it with their malware tools.

Seems to be your history in this thread.

If this continues, this could seriously harm all of sonys goodwill. Regardless of the reasons people just see that xbox = working and playstation = not working. Having just transferred my destiny preorder from xbox to psn I will have no problem going back if this continues.

It amazes me that those responsible still havn't been caught. A lot of people ridiculed ms for touting the azure features (I.e the cloud) for the xbox but this could be one of the many benefits it provides, if it means networks are always up compared to sonys then it was a good call.

Having said that it's all fairly early on, but if it continues over weeks and especially if it hits destinys launch this could have huge repercussions for sony.

But we don't know if they're singling out Sony or not
