I find it hard to believe that the first thing these hackers would do with all these stolen credit card numbers is purchase some gas.
I don't know how it happened or whether it's related or not, I'm just telling you guys that there is a $100 charge on my credit card that is traced to a location a few states away from where I live. If you don't want to believe me or want to shrug this off as worthless anecdotal evidence than that is fine; it's up to you.

All I'm saying is don't say I didn't warn you.

They'd still need your PIN number.

I realised I've effectively said number twice
In at least Canada PIN numbers were not on credit cards up until the last year or two.

Many cards floating around that don't have a chip/pin, and many retailers that still use the magnetic strip.

I have the chip in my card but they rarely have the machine to use it in stores :(. Instead it's the magnetic strip all the way.

Not if they're running it as a credit card they don't. No offense, bou guys really need to read up on this stuff instead of making assumptions. And you should take this stuff seriously.
Hmm, yeah I just remembered how unsecure using your card was in the US. In the UK, basically everywhere now requires your PIN for authentication.

Seems pretty unsophisticated compared to the hacker who actually got all this info.

Fraud departments on CC companies do not fuck around. They get security tapes, pictures, all those goodies.

I want to compliment FINALBOSS on all of his PR efforts over the last 24 hours. There was a point where he looked like he'd lost it (quoting himself to agree with himself) but he recovered and since then he's been doing his best to spin this all into glorious sunshine and rainbows.

I salute you.
HaHa!

Some stores still have the old swipe machines, fortunately those who still have it don't really have much worth purchasing. (at least in my experience)

And Visa is covered by 'Verified by Visa' in the UK, not sure if it's available in the US. Basically any online purchases with a Visa (debit or credit) card requires you to enter an additional password to your card details and 3 number security code.

Yeah I got my money back, they cancelled the card etc. I'm sure they got a hold of the Walmarts videos.

Yes, PINs are great, but if you have 3 different cards can be sometimes quite confusing.

Also, Verified by Visa protection system which i have on my Electron, requires another code to be inserted when ordering online.

If any of you guys used a gmail account as your PSN login, log into that gmail account and double-check who has accessed it (even if you have diff PW, it doesn't hurt to look).

For those who aren't aware, Google, in a hugely useful touch, logs the IP addresses of everyone who logs into your gmail account within the past 48-72 or so hours. At the bottom you can see the IP of the person who last accessed it, and if you hit "Details" it takes you to a list of recent IP logs. If it isn't matching up with the IPs you recently accessed the account from, you know something could be up.

I don't have a PS3, but I did have a PSN account. Someone has been trying to access my gmail account from Texas twice the last day. And I'm in Colorado. Boo.

The damage is already done.

True, but im not really concerned about what damage has been done to sony at the moment.

I would be happy to hear that my card details havent been stolen

Seriously, if Sony doesn't try and show us good faith, but giving out free games, or something else. It would be really tacky. Specially if people are starting to get fraudulent charges on their cards.

a friend of mine just had a charge from some porno site randomly show up in his bank account's pending transactions; shit just got quite real

The more I hear about fraudulent charges, the more I'm disappointed in these hackers. $200 at Walgreen's, $1,000 at Wal-Mart? C'mon, guys. I guess the economy has struck hackers, too. Instead of Rolex watches and new speakers, they're buying diapers, groceries, and their grandmother's medication.

The only good thing at least there not pulling $$thousands out of people wallets YET. I mean if they start raping your bank account then that REALLY SUCKS.

I don't know if I should laugh, panic, cry. I just wish we could get SOME confirmation about the CC nonsense. :(

They already said they found no evidence that CC info was stolen.

Have an ice-cream and just enjoy the nice weather.

lol, if that's the case, it took him a whole day to figure out that he bought it. his biggest complaint was that he "didn't even get to watch it"

I think it's more interesting that there's $100 of gas charges...

That's what I've read too. Just wondering about the people here with their cards getting jacked so just a small little panic. I just hope this shit all goes away smoothly and we don't see anyone get hit hard with something. It's a pain in the ass and hassle to get things back they way they are.
