WAYS TO OPTIMIZE BATTERY LIFE SPAN ON THE PSP:
Add to or correct this list please!

1. Charge battery fully before you play PSP the first time.
2. Not playing at full brightness.
3. Avoid movies.
4. Using headsets or very low volume on the speakers.
5. Avoid turning the unit off and on.
6. Avoid switching games.
7. Fully charge battery everytime it runs out of life.

HELP! I bought my PSP and immediately charged the battery for literally 6 hours. According to the manual, it’s supposed to be fully charged after the orange light shuts off.

When I turned it on the first time, it was fully charged. However it seemed to have run out of life after only 1 hour of usage. Grant it, I was switching UMDs like crazy, using full volume, going from RR to the sampler and playing parts of Spiderman 2, and turning it off and on quite frequently. Is that normal for the battery to run out after one hour? Anyone else share this problem?

Hmm, can't say that I have.

When I first charged my PSP I was using it at the same time. After playing Wipeout Fusion for about a half hour I went into the front end and noticed I still had a little over 6 hours left. Played more Wipeout and MGA and I still have about 4 hours and 40 minutes left. I'm getting about 6 hours of battery time with these two games. BUT, I am only using the second brightest of the three available backlit settings.

Sounds like there's something wrong with the PSP or the battery. Switch that shit immediately.

Try charging it up again; perhaps something happened the first time and it didn't fully charge. Did you check the battery percentage to see what it got to when you charged it up the first time? It's under system information in the main menu screen.

If it drains that quickly again, return it immediately. You may want to return to anyway just to be on the safe side. This is not normal.

Switching out games shouldn't be making a difference. Playing at full volume without head phones and at level 3 brightness will drain the battery quicker, but not THAT quickly. I can't comment on UMDs, but I would assume you'd have to watch the entire movie for it to drain the battery so quickly.

MrBob, in case you didn't know, there's a fourth brightness setting that can only be used when the AC is plugged in. :)

Yeah, i need to test it again when I get home. I'd say I should be able to watch Spiderman 2 in one sitting.

Pretty sure you should be able to watch it in two sittings. You should seriously go switch it out for another unit just to be on the safe side.

And see the "quote" option next to "reply" on everyone's posts? Start using it. :)

Make sure that the light didn't turn green because the transformer (the brick) and the detachable power cord got disconnected.

Also, ensure that the wireless LAN switch is not toggled to the on (up) position.
