PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Running off of Custom Firmware
I hear ya. I'm happy you got past that. Chrono Cross, similarly, is one of the tough ones. I don't know if it's quite as bad as FFVIII, but there are very clear, easily reproduce-able hangs. I managed to finish that game in its entirety without any real issues thanks to the advice compiled in that compatibility resource I linked to earlier today.

You want those 1s. It's a way to enable your plugins without going to the recovery menu. Going into the recovery menu and manually re-enabling the plugins should add a 1 to the config files anyway, but now that's no longer necessary.

"When in doubt, throw it out!"
Once upon a time, my CWCheat simply stopped working one day. I tried for a good two hours to figure out wtf went wrong. Finally, I just gave up. I kept my FAQs, but deleted everything else from my mem stick (including other plugins and all of the config txt files), downloaded a fresh copy of CWCheat, and reinstalled it from scratch. That did the trick.

Another question. Did you recently set up a new plugin. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I recall reading that CWCheat is rather memory-intensive, and if it can't find enough free memory, then it just won't run. Could have something to do with the number (and size) of plugins that you have running concurrently.

Like I said, that was the only thing that worked for me the one time CWCheat stopped working. As I think back, it stopped working after I restored my PSP-2000 from a brick, using my backup Pandora battery. Even with the same exact memory stick, contents, and settings, I couldn't get CWCheat to load in-game. Wiping it from the memory stick and re-applying a clean (though otherwise identical) instance of CWCheat fixed it.

One of the many minor mysteries I never quite figured out. :)

Funny enough, I had to do the exact same thing myself to get cheats working again.

On a random note, I tried the version trick thing and Patapon 2 works. I guess it doesn't change the version info in the System Info thing though?

I had no problems with minor cheats when I ran through my own conversion about a year ago. Does it freeze with all cheats, or just a specific one?

Well when I try and use my saved game it will freeze every time. I just started a new game and I got past the first battle (playing as Sephiroth lol with enabled walk through walls) and after the battle as I went to the next screen it went black but the music was still going.

Still can't get my dump of RB:U to work. Goes through the PSP splash screen and then freezes into a black screen. All my other dumps work, except this. Any suggestions?

I've been trying to flash the cfw on my 3000 all this afternoon. I can get chichken fine but when following steps for 5.03 gen-a I get stuck at this step:
01. Connect your PSP to the computer in USB Mode when you have loaded ChickHEN R2.
02. Unzip 5.03GEN-A_for_HEN.zip on your desktop by example
03. double-click on LAUNCH-ME.exe (GUI)
04.PSP Model : choose options PSP-2000 or PSP-3000 (depends of your PSP)
05.Mode : Choose option FULL
06. PSP Install : Choose option YES
07. Push START.
08.the files are copied on your PSP.

09. Disconnect the PSP from USB.
10. Launch the main EBOOT.PBP / Loader using ChickHEN R2 (only R2! NOT R1!).
11. When the app load, press L or R to flash the firmware in your flash. YOU ONLY NEED MAKE IT ONE TIME!
12. Press () to reboot in the custom firmware.

when I push start it says 'done' but the files aren't transferred to my PSP even though the drive letter is correct. I've tried running launch-me.exe in the actual psp folder and there the files are unloaded on the psp but still nothing under the "game" folder when I disconnect from usb. Any help from another 3000 user?

I currently have a phat PSP with 5.00 M33-6 loaded, but the WLAN seems to be broken, so I was thinking of buying this. What are the chances that:

A) I get the hard-to-mod motherboard
B) It has a firmware version that's difficult to downgrade

I really would like a PSP with working internet capabilities at some point, but I'm not about to buy one that can't load CFW. Thanks.

Edit: Also, I'm curious about whether converting an ISO to a CSO increases load times.

You should buy a premodded used PSP. You can try asking for one in the buy, sell, trade thread or searching craigslist or something.

I had the same problem. You just have to type the drive letter, don't put a colon or slash after it.

i found a 2.71 fat at the pawn shop and i downgraded it to 1.5. so now i can upgradge it to 3.52 m33 right?
yeah you can do that, or you could just make a pandora battery combo with DCv8 and the DAX pandora battery maker, the go straight to 5.00 m33 via pandora.

When using recovery menu (custom FW) what should CPU speed be in XMB? It was set to 20 somehow and poor thing crashed all the time (I suspect my little brother played with settings)

It depends on your preferences, but I generally use default speed for XMB, and full speed for games.

Thanks a lot mate,
Just a quick question... I just noted that there is some kind of save state option, how does it work? Does it work on PSX games only or PSP games as well? And what do I need to install? Have latest CFW installed on phat PSP.

I checked dark-alex.org but there is only forum and it is in spanish so I don't get a thing :(

If it's Dark_Alex's savestate plugin, then it only works on Slim PSP (it uses the Slim's extra RAM as a buffer for the savestate).

I went ahead and used Custom Firmware Enabler 3.30 and that worked perfectly. I tried with 5.03 gen-a to put the correct drive letter but it never worked. CFE worked well though!

Came across this Compatibility list "PSX on PSP" and was checking how the FFIX played on PSP.
I noticed that there is "5.00 M33-6" setting, and I can only chose up to 4.01 when I start the game. What am I doing wrong?

Also at what screen do you play your PSX games? Zoomed is nice but it cuts quite a bit of screen and fullscreen is ugly and streched :( I play at normal but damn there are black borders around that I don't like

It's the "original from flash" option when choosing POPS version, assuming you're using 5.00 M33-6 CFW.

How can I change it to some other version after I made a choice? (Need other version for some other games)

Also what UMD Mode should I choose in "M33 Recovery Menu Configuration"?

Thank you for your time!

hold R when selecting a game to bring up popsloader menu

I have been out of the loop on CFW for a long while (still at 3.71 m33-4). My friend wants me to put CFW on his but he has a 3000 model (5.03 official FW). Am I right to assume that it is not possible to put CFW on his psp or am I just looking in the wrong places?

I just got my brand new PSP slim from Dell and used the hen exploit to run CFW Enabler 3.30 and got it working fine. However when I go to play a game and load a save that was created on my old PSP 1000 I get an error saying the save data is corrupted. But if I put the memory card back in the old PSP it loads fine so it's definitely not corrupt. Is there an incompatibility with save data across CFW levels or between the PSP 1000 and 2000? I think my PSP 1000 is on 3.53 M33 and my 2000 is on 5.03 M33. Thanks.

This happens when you play new games on firmwares that are lower than the game actually requires. The only way to salvage them is to decrypt the saves on the old PSP, and re-encrypt them on 5.03 M33

Use Savegame Deemer

Much appreciated! I'll give it a shot tomorrow. It is a newer game (Class of Heroes) that wanted to upgrade my firmware when I ran it from the UMD but I didn't do it.

Edit - Well I just tried using this and was able to get it to create a plain save on my fat but unfortunately it doesn't look like there's any way to currently enable plugins under Hen on my slim so I don't think there's any way to use the save deemer plugin on my slim to load the save.

I'm wondering if I upgrade my psp1000 to the 5.03M33 level will I then be able to use the encrypted save on my slim since the are both at the same level?
