PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Awesome that Disgaea 2 is working! You people are amazing! XD

Question: Is there a way to overclock the PSP using 5.50 GEN? I want to run it on RemoteJoy and it's uber slow... :(

Funny thing is when I did this a couple hours ago, GT never loaded as a CSO*, but it did uncompressed. And I made both images at the same time.


* To be specific, it never booted me back to the XMB. Just never loaded the intro.
 
Great news about Yoshihiro's app! I've had a copy of Tenchu 3 Portable sitting on my shelf for like a month now; going to give that a try and see if it will work.
 
tried it like 3 times now. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. Guess I'll just have to give up on m33 if I want to play this game.
 
I just checked and I'm on 5.00 M33-6. None of my games as of yet have required anything higher, but I'm going to pick up a copy of GT PSP probably on Sunday. Might also get Persona as I'm kidna wanting a new RPG to play. Which firmware will I need to upgrade to in order to be able to rip those UMDs to my memory stick and play them? I'm guessing 5.50 Gen-B2??? Also any word if DA is working on 6.00 M33?

No plans. Abandon all hope, ye who stick with M33 (like me) and just upgrade to GEN if you want GT/Disgaea 2/Persona like I do.
 
A question to the vets:

I'm using 5.50 GEN B and I changed the cpu to 333 mhz. I remembered the older custom firmware had issues with 333 mhz and Wifi. But with the 5.50 GEN B can I play multiplayer games with 333 mhz with wifi on?

Damn Phantasy Star portable is so much smoother and the loads with a faster cpu rate as well.. pretty much instantaneous.

Yup, got Persona working too. Initially goofed by copying the wrong eboot.bin. Then I had to upgrade to 5.50 GEN-B. But I'm playing it right now and I am very happy. For now. Come Thursday I bet I won't be able to buy Thexder off PSN, and that will make me sad again. Still better than using OFW like some sucker though!

I am using 5.50 Gen B-2 and the Decrypter.



It is really simple. The other instructions are pretty tough to follow! Just do this:



Open the ISO File in UMD Gen


Go to PSP Sys Directory in the ISO (within UMDGen) select the EBoot.bin and Right Click on it, Choose "EXTRACT SELECTED" and extract the EBOOT.bin


Copy the Eboot.bin to the Root of the Memory Stick


Run the Decrypter on your PSP just like you run any Homebrew


You now have a NEW Eboot.bin within the Decrypter Folder in the root of your memory stick (Just delete the original Eboot.bin that you originally copied to the root, you dont need it anymore)

Now drag and drop the NEW Eboot.bin from the Decrypter Folder on the Root of your Memory Stick, into the SysDirectory Folder within UMDGen. It will ask if you want to replace the Original, SAY YES.


Now go to the top of UMD Gen, Click SAVE, and you can save Motorstorm or Gran Turismo as CSO's. They work great as CSOs with no lag.


Copy the CSO to the ISO folder on your Memory Stick.


Play away.

I downloaded all of the stuff Mejilan linked to. The 5.50 GEN-A readme was in French so I wasn't sure what to do. Figured it was probably like m-33 so I renamed the official firmware eboot to 550.pbp and dropped it in the update directory. Worked fine, so I installed the other two updates and popsloader and that was that. Very simple.

Can someone tell me how does situation look on playing PSX games with GEN-B? Just started Innocent Sin, and a few others are waiting. Does GEN also use popsloader? How do I go around to making those games work on new CFW?

I'm on 5.00M33-6.

Nintendo's newest update was essentially a scorched earth option for homebrew. It does everything possible to basically remove all traces of mods on your system.

Edit: Holy crap, they solved the problem?!

Nintendo pushes update to delete homebrew. Everyone becomes sad. Then homebrew developers say Nintendo screwed up and didn't fix anything. Everyone is happy now.
 
Well tomorrow im buying my first game for the PSP Gran Turismo.

Up until this point I haven't play ANY games whatsoever on my PSP that i bought off a mate around 2 years ago, still got the standard firmware aswell from what i believe :lol
 
Tenchu 3 worked! It now runs on my CFW 2000! :D

I find that I don't really like the port on PSP though. The controls are kinda crap. Oh well! :lol

You know, I have no idea what to do. From the link Mejilan posted, I need to basically download every single official firmware to get all the Popsloader eboot versions?

There isn't just one single package that you can grab?

I'm installing GEN-A so can't help you right now, but from what I know you shouldn't have any problem running popsloader if it's fitted to GEN releases. Just hold R while launching any PSX game and check if you have a list of FW to choose from.

EDIT: On GEN-B2 and installing popsloader, it has all the PRX files for different versions, so no worries. Get the whole package and unzip to the root directory of your MS.

EDIT2: Tested Innocent Sin on GEN-B2 again, pops list displayed correctly, all the pops from 5.00M33-6 are included.
 
Can someone convince me to leave M33 for Gen ? :(

I'm worried because i'm not a technical know-how kind of person and i wouldn't be able to revert back to M33 if i wanted to.

edit : does CWCheat work on Gen ?

Didn't work for me on m33, but switched to Gen and.. OMG PERSONA IS PLAYABLE. That said. I wonder if this works for Idolm@ster too :D

Sounds ultra fake and made up. Why would DA mention GenB and "fight back against the Sony corporation".

Either way, all this decrypting and UMDGen remaking is gonna get a bit tedious :/ Also won't solve letting me play digital-only titles and Minis in the future I guess.

Yeah you are right, DA never did firmware to stick it up Sony. He was doing it as a past-time.

Anyways nothing wrong with GEN, it takes time. The good ole devhook had the same issue with games being "patched"..
 
Gen has released a program that can upgrade your PSP directy from M33 to 5.50genB, so genA is no longer needed.
Just installed and it work flawlessly, even with Persona <3

Ripping PSX games that I OWN in those SHINY cases with those BLACK CDs is perfectly legal, I can do whatever I want with the goods I own. Having CFW to run said emulation is also perfectly legal.
