PSP Custom Firmware Thread

They were only recently fully decrypted. It's been a while since we've seen an updated PSARDumper app, but now one exists that can fully decrypt everything up to 6.20, IIRC. With the new POPS files that are available, a new version of POPSLoader is very possible. Someone just needs to go ahead and do it, though.

Someone send up the bat signal then. Immediates.

I'm having trouble copying my grandia to my psp. I get error message(80029724). Alright, went back to OFW, copied Grandia, I wonder how to transfer the damn dat file over, then went back to 5.50 Gen D3. Grandia is being a little bitch. Screw it, I'm just going to be playing Grandia on my ps3.

I need help ripping Lunar 2. I was reading how the game just doesn't work with some popsloader but there's the 5.00 m33 one and they used different ripping programs for the iso and all that. but anyways. I need some steps to ripping the game and turning it into a Multi disk Eboot file.

I just finished beating the PSP remake of Lunar 1, ripping the 5 games discs for the PSOne versions of Lunars 1 and 2, and converting them to multi-disc eboots that run on the PSP.
I used the newest version of ImgBurn (free download) to rip the disc ISOs as BIN files. Then I queued them up in PSX2PSP 1.4.2 to convert them into multi-disc eboots. So far, they both run just fine, though I've only loaded them up to their respective title screens. Using POPSLoader, I'm using the 'original from flash' version of POPS, that is, 5.50.

So far, their conversion processes have proven to be pretty standard. Once I get past a few bosses and anime sequences, and one disc transfer, I'll have a better idea on how effective this combination will prove.

can any one confirm remote play works fine when using INTERNET .... ie not just connecting through yr ps3 wifi or yr home network. whicjh requires the psn sign-in

which is pretty much the only mode i'm interested in because if im sitting next to my ps3 i'll be using that instead.

what should that version file thing be number wise now?

quick google and yep looks like psn access is still blocked with this CFW ... thats pretty shit isn't it.

no psn store

no infrastructure mode online games such as motorstorm

no infrastructure mode remote play ..which is the only usefull mode really if you like to stream video like i do to work etc.

so umm .. ?

1) PSN store access can be restored via a PC (MediaGO) or PS3.
2) Remote Play's fairly useless and unsupported.
3) Two plugins exist (PSNabler and PSNKiller, IIRC) that restore online play for PSN-enabled games.

I'm running 5.50 Gen-D3 and I can not log into the Playstation network or use remote play.

I would tell you to get it from eBay but Sony must be cracking down on PSP modding as they have all been removed from eBay listings so DealExtreme is a good alternative but shipping takes a while, this one should work fine
If I were to buy one of these would I still need a working CFW PSP to make the memory stick needed to downgrade or unbrick?

remote play is unsupported? eh ... yr refering to games like pixel junk eden right ..i'm talking media streaming. which is prob imo the most usual thing about psp.

say i'm in a hotel somewhere with shit paytv ... no sweat, whip out psp and stream one of the movies i have sitting on my ps3 HDD ..or better yet ... stream tv from playTV.

pretty useless CFW if it kills remoteplay.

is there a way to easily dual boot cfw/official ?

Anyone know how I can properly emulate DKC? I'm running SNES9XTYL 0.4.2mecm and the FPS go down to 40 on a lot of levels (which pretty much fucks the entire game up since it goes in to slowmotion mode). Same goes for underwater levels in DKC2.

I never used remote play but wouldn't you need to keep your PS3 on the whole time? Even when you are out of town for like a week? That's crazy and totally stupid.

There is a setting on the PS3 that allows you to remotely turn on your PS3 when you connect via remote play. You have to set it though as the default will not let you turn it on with remote play.

You can wake it from standby with remote play.

I'm disappointed at how quiet things are with the PSP scene lately. :(

That's what happens when you have 60 million hardware sales but zero software sales in comparison.

And to think a lot of people claim they don't pirate but just enjoy the 'other' cool features of CFW, as is there are any besides running iso files.

Man.

This wasn't smart.

Is he trying to suggest that CFW doesn't bring much to the table outside of piracy?
Having a hard time understanding the end of his post.
Either way, it's pure rubbish.

I have a question about this, I recently went from 5.00 M33-3 to 5.50 GEN-D3 on my PSP1000, and I noticed that it changed the button set from O/X(JP) to X/O(US), I was wondering is there any way to reverse it back to the default JP set I had (my PSP1000 is Japanese), I don't mind it really, but it's more of a preference thing. Also I went back to OFW (it doesn't matter really since I created a Pandora Battery/Magic MS before doing so) so I can play my KHBBS, and I noticed that my PSP1000 is still based on the NA setup and it looks like NA fw (or some strange hybrid, the comic app icon has comic in Katakana, I haven't played around with the newer PSP FWs in ages so I don't know if the actual comic app icon does look like this on US OFWs, the 6.20 FW I installed onto the OFW install came from the KHBBS UMD).

Anyone know how to get back to my old setup or can someone explain what happened? I'm guessing it's because the original base FW was replaced with US OFW, though I'm probably not correct on that.

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear, but yea, no one uses CFW other than for piracy purposes. Any other reasons are purely inconsequential.

Anyway, my PSP has that 1st revision motherboard (bought it with fw2.0) and now it has 6.0 firmware. What're my options, doctor?

1) You're dead-wrong.
2) Are you fishing for a ban?
3) Why would I help you? It seems like you're only interested in the piracy aspect.

Edit - Quoted for posterity. ;p

You should be able to switch the X/O buttons from the recovery menu. (Hold R during a hard reboot).

Uh how about to run games from a Memory Card? Which is far far far far far quicker than a UMD and on top of that the ability to have all your games on the device at once rather than carrying around a bunch of UMDs.

While I won't debate that the vast majority of people using CFW are probably using it for nothing but piracy to say no one uses it for anything else is just stupid.

Wat?

I use CFW so I can load my PSP/PSX games onto my memory card. If Sony gave me a legitimate way to do this, I'd switch back to OFW without hesitation so I could gain access to PSN.

Oh cool, thanks, I'll play around with going back to CFW tomorrow (I went back to OFW to play KHBBS while I wait for the GOWIII midnight launch tonight lol).

Oh I must be the minority :lol

Anyway I'll try the nice little tutorial you wrote (I didn't even check the first page, bad habit of going straight to the last page, sorry) and will pm you if I have any questions :D

Pandora Battery.
Magic Memory Stick.

Google.com, go there and put those terms in.

It doesn't matter where you buy for the pandora, so long as you get one. I bought a "Datel Tool" battery that is basically a Pandora so you can look for one of those as well.

Tutorials for these are ALL OVER THE PLACE. You simply have to read the tutorials and go step-by-step. Take a deep breath as it flashes the PSP (and hope it doesn't screw up, but thankfully the Pandora Battery is there as a backup if it does). And you should get CFW easy.

It isn't hugely hard. Simply google around and read up before you do it, though.

I don't remember ever needing to buy anything to get my 1.5 up to speed, though I'll admit I haven't touched my psp in awhile. Do the latest games still work? The last one I bought was the latest monster hunter and probably the next one is the next game I'll get, but just out of curiosity I'd like to know.

Meijan. what ISO ripping software did you use to rip Lunar 2? I think i tried Ultraiso and MagicISO and each time i ripped it would hang at the Blue Spire CG With Lucia. and which software for Multidisk eboots (version too) I tried with 1.14 or something.

I posted my steps this past weekend, but long story short:
Newest ImgBurn to rip the 3 discs.
PSX2PSP 1.4.2 to merge and convert.

Worst comes to worst you can just press start (IIRC) to skip the FMVs and catch them on Youtube or some such.

So I just replaced my PSP Screen. I had weird vertical marks on my original one, so i bought a new one over at focalprice.com (Chinese internet store) with free shipping worldwide (i don't live in the US, so shipping is a big deal).

First of, the screen looks pretty legit. After I opened up the PSP (and managed to not figure out where a brown rubber thing that's supposed to go below the screen on top of the speaker is supposed to go, so i built it again without it), I switched the screens and lo and behold, my PSP is somewhat useable again.

The screen has a gouge on the left side of it, with kinda messes the image a tiny little bit (like, it has an atual scratch on the screen itself). It's not that bad, but it's a little distracting. I'm used to play my games all warped and shit, so that's not going to bother me much. just like my original screen, it has a stuck pixel. It looks like it's in the same spot, so I guess it's the PSP fault, not the screen? Anyway.

Also, the backlight doesn't look quite uniform to me - doesn't bother much, as my 24 inch LCD screen has horrible backlight and it doesn't bother me.

One thing that pisses me off the most is that i can't make the damn thing clean! I always notice a speckle or two of dust after i closed it up. I open it up, clean the screen, close again and it's either dirtier than before/new dust specs show up in it. Right now I decided to stop trying to clean it up even further, because the dust just multiplies.

Anyway, I'm quite pleased with the whole proccess. I wish I've gotten a better screen to replace mine with, but i'm pretty sure this one was up for sale because it has these issues. I rather buy one on Ebay, but as i said, shipping is a big deal.

It wasn't hard, other than the dust thing - man, I can never rebuild my portables without dust getting in.

I'm disappointed that the CFW scene seems to be dead at the moment. Gone are the days we had regular CFW updates with features not found in the OFW never mind all of the official stuff.

The GEN guys have done great and I'm surprised at how well the decrypter has held up with the new games recently, but the future looks increasing bleak.

What happened to Dark Alex anyways?

Last i heard he gave up on the PSP scene around the time the GEN guys got their shit together. He then moved on to the PS3, probably realized he wasn't getting anywhere and i aint heard from him since. Although i admit i have not checked on him in a long while so if he is doing something i'd love to be corrected <3 DA

He really was great. I wish he'd get back to the PSP stuff.

He said at one point he started getting death threats from people mad at him that PSP software wasn't selling. Not, like, publishers, but fans.

I imagine the scene will pick up when Birth By Sleep comes out to America, if it still prevents people from playing the UMD with CFW.

It seems like the key to getting Birth By Sleep nice and cracked will be in a PSN release. Actually, that could be exactly the reason why it was never released on PSN over in Japan. *shrugs*

Did they crack Classic Dungeon yet then? It's the only recent JP game with a PSN release which seems to have anti-CFW protection. God Eater, like BbS, has no PSN release and is protected as well. But yet .hack//Link has no PSN release, but yet has no protection. It's still kinda inconsistent so far...

I finally jumped on board the CFW scene last night, and I'm loving it. I had a few false starts, but I'm finally good to go. It's been great to be able to copy over some of my PSOne classic RPGs for some on the go action. With this, I think I'll finally get around to playing / finishing Suikoden 2 and Vagrant Story. On that note, does anyone know of any good websites or resources for gathering together the icons and background images for PSOne games? I found a couple here and there, but I was hoping there would be somewhere with a more comprehensive collection.

How can I connect to the Playstationstore with my psp (5.50 GEN-D3)

I wanna play Final Fantasy 7 again which I bought times ago

but dunno how I can get it now :(

Well that sucks, lol. If I convert a PSX copy of the game, will I be able to use the same save that I started on my PS3? If not that blows, as the whole reason I got it was to be able to play on the go when I'm out and on TV when I'm back home w/ free time. At least I found out about this before getting Grandia and some other RPGs I was thinking about, lol.

Edit:

Wait, now I'm just confused.

You can still buy the games. But if you're not looking to fuck about changing game ID's (for Bio/RE2 to Japan, where it makes your US save a Japan save. :|), you are hosed.

There are ways to get around the stupid PSN stuff, but it's basically a hassle and a half for a small return.

If you're on 1.5 firmware, you don't need a magic memory stick other than as a safety net. The old methods WORK, but they are prone to bricking your system, to where you'll have to buy a pandora battery to unbrick it anyway. The dude, DOES NOT WANT TO GO THAT ROUTE. Thus: SAFEST method is getting a pandora and jigkicking.
