PSP Custom Firmware Thread

You can still buy the games. But if you're not looking to fuck about changing game ID's (for Bio/RE2 to Japan, where it makes your US save a Japan save. :|), you are hosed.

There are ways to get around the stupid PSN stuff, but it's basically a hassle and a half for a small return.

If you're on 1.5 firmware, you don't need a magic memory stick other than as a safety net. The old methods WORK, but they are prone to bricking your system, to where you'll have to buy a pandora battery to unbrick it anyway. The dude, DOES NOT WANT TO GO THAT ROUTE. Thus: SAFEST method is getting a pandora and jigkicking.

Honestly I think that's ridiculous. If you have a phat (like he does) it doesn't take more than 10 mins to upgrade and it's definitely not prone to bricking. I'm guessing that's FUD to get you to buy that pandora shit. If you do actually brick your PSP (you won't) then he could get it.

I see no point in buying the battery, waiting for it to arrive, just for the off chance you're gonna brick your system (which you won't) instead of just doing it, but hey, that's just me.

I finally jumped on board the CFW scene last night, and I'm loving it. I had a few false starts, but I'm finally good to go. It's been great to be able to copy over some of my PSOne classic RPGs for some on the go action. With this, I think I'll finally get around to playing / finishing Suikoden 2 and Vagrant Story. On that note, does anyone know of any good websites or resources for gathering together the icons and background images for PSOne games? I found a couple here and there, but I was hoping there would be somewhere with a more comprehensive collection.

You got me looking for the site i used to use but it looks like it's gone, but after some sluthing i think i found it's successor http://popsiicle.com/index.php it seems to have everything popsdb.com had and more. Hope it helps.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my PSP with the latest and greatest stuff (I’m still on 5.00 M33-6) but I figured I would try and compile a list of resources in one post since it has been a pain in the butt looking for things in this thread since the search function has been turned off.

If I’m missing something or you have something to add please let me know.

Anyone ever have their XMB screen shake and have lag in button responses?

Also, it seems like the PSP is trying to read from the memory stick constantly.

I removed the memory stick to see if that any affect, still the same shakes.

Firmware is 5.50 GEN-D2

I know D3 is out but it was working fine until today. This shit lagging like a mofo. It takes awhile to access folders and subfolders.

Try updating to D3 and if that doesn't work we can try something else.

Try changing the cpu speed to 333hz by pressing select in the xmb.

hey guys

i bought a psp 1000 already modded a couple of years ago. I upgraded it myself, once, about a year and a half ago, and i don't really remember how to do it.

it's now at 3.71 M33-4. How easy would that be to upgrade to whatever is the latest now?

also, my disc drive is pretty shitty. back a year and a half ago when i was using it regularly, i would rip all the games to play them since the load times were extra horrific and the drive would make some really uncomfortable sounds. ripping from the PSP would take longer than it should too but it was better than sitting for 60 seconds at every load screen.

but now I don't remember how to do that either lol. i have a few of my games already ripped but some of the stuff i didnt really dabble in like field commander takes so long to load that it's not even playable.

anyone wanna help me out? i suck and i don't really wanna buy a new psp.

Anyone know the story with MLB 10 and 5.50 GEN-D? I've read various places that it causes major fits with CFW and even when patched can't save. Is there any solution?

So what's the scene like with the PSP 3000? I've been out of the loop for quite a bit, and I want to purchase the MGS: Peace Walker bundle in June. Will I be able to tinker with it at all?

I know nothing about CFW, but from a friend, later models of the 2000 series, and 3000 apparently will require you to reinstall all of your custom firmware stuff if you turn your PSP off, or it suffers battery drain, each single time that happens you have to reinstall it.

This is not precisely CFW related but if somebody can help me out I would be so grateful.

2 days ago my phat CFW 5.50 GEN-B PSP suddenly decided to give me a black screen when I turn the power on. Prior to that I did not touch the firmware for over 3 months. I could not access the recovery mode and unlike most other full/semi bricks i read about, the green light stays on and doesn't go off on its own. I don't think the screen itself is busted as I get no sound after I turn on the PSP normally.

I borrowed a pandora battery and a magic memory stick from a friend and gave it a shot, but all I get is the green light, ms access light and the wifi light and I still have a black screen.

I'm not really new to using these hacks but I seem to be running out of ideas. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Is that 3000 method the same one I remember hearing about where you could choose whether to boot into CFW or OFW? And if that's correct, is it only a certain early revision of 3000s that can do that, or the whole line up to the currents?

Sandisk released 32GB micro SDHCs this week. I wonder if those would work in a Photofast. I could put anything I could ever want on my PSP with a 64GB card. They're $200 right now. Hopefully within the next year or so the price will drop and they'll become more reasonable.

PSP 6.20 Save Data Exploit Released. Hello World 6.20 Download. So it looks like Homebrew will be on the PSP GO soon now?

I was just going to ask about PSP Go, as I got to play with it over the weekend (got my hands on one in Fnac, France). It is beautiful gadget, however I need to have CFW. I use my PSP almost exclusively for DJ Max Portable, as I have all games released so far I need to be able to play them from MS. Otherwise no sale.

Man, if PSP Go can get fully CFWed like the 1K and 2K, I'll buy it immediately. It'd be so ideal for homebrew and media applications, especially given its size!

I just made a hardware Pandora by breaking the pin. I made a MMS and I can use it as a regular battery. Is this safe or will I blow up and catch fire?

edit - Alright, I've got my PSP setup. I have the IPL loader so that if I hold Up I get 5.0 M33-4, and if I hold L, I get NAND Tool. Then I've got backups of 5.5GEN D-3 and 6.2.

On my NAND itself, I have 6.2. So I can dual boot between 5.0 M33-4 and 6.2. That seems good enough. I have the NAND backups incase something happens with GEN and it becomes a viable solution again. But for now, M33 is fine for running games off my memory stick and playing some emulators.

Been out of the PSP scene for a long time, but I am looking for some homebrew

Are there any of the following
CBR, CBZ comic viewer
PDF Viewer
Flash player for flash games and videos
Digital Magazine's, books made for PSP (similar to that new EGM magazine)

If so what is the best version to get
I just need some shit to read in the coach ride

Hey guys, not really a CFW question but I was wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives to using MSDuo for memory on the PSP? Like adaptors for SD cards or anything like that?

PSPComic (I prefer Pepviewer, smoother scrolling and better rendering. No archive support though)
Bookr (for PDFs and TXT)
PSPtube (flash video)
I'm not sure what format "digital magazines" are in though.

I can get micro SD cards super cheap. You just saved me a ton of money on my next MemStick Duo purchase. Now I don't even need one. XD Sweet!

Where would you recommend to shop for the best deal on microSDs? I need to upgrade my PSP stick and also get a general purpose one to use with a USB reader since someone stole my last one I had >_<.

I buy them from a local store near where I live in Japan. I'm not sure this would work for you. SD cards are used in every thing here so they are reasonably priced if you know where to look.

GAF, I need some answers right now. Because it seems like we're not getting any more updates, I want to be able to switch between CFW and OFW. Birth By Sleep doesn't want to load the UMD if you have CFW, and there's no 6.20 CFW yet, and there's a lot of new games coming out and I don't want to miss any of them.

I currently have 5.50 GEN-B (Full). TThe table in the sticky says my motherboard should be able to make a pandora battery.

My PSP's mobo is TA-085v1 (checked using PSPident), and according to this table, my PSP would be able to turn my battery into Pandora.

Can I use my regular battery? Will it harm/break/make it unusable for regular play in ANY way? Can I revert it back to a regular battery as if nothing happened?

The guides here on NeoGAF use the commercially sold TOOL battery, and basically just converting OFW to CFW. I really need concise answers, I don't want to end up getting stuck to OFW or bricking my PSP. :( RemoteJoy Lite is too precious for me, as well as CWCheat (for reading FAQs while playing).

You can use your own battery and (hardware) convert it but its a pretty risky thing to do.
You will have to crack open the case with a blade and then find the eeprom and cut on of the pins to convert it.
It all depends on how much of a hurry you are. You could try it or take the safer route and get a TOOL battery or Pandora Battery from DealExtreme or similar website.

Trying it won't brick your PSP but can break your battery.

But the GEN firmware has options in the XMB:
- Make Pandora Battery
- Make Normal Battery

I'm assuming it'll easily turn my battery to pandora and normal, but I'm afraid to try it, so I needed confirmation.

Yes the GEN software option through XMB will work fine.

I've got a question.

I'm on the M33 series firmware and took a lot of time getting all my emulators running on the PSP (GBA, SNES, NES, Genesis)

I think time's come to upgrade to GEN-D but I'm worried that I'll lose my emulators.

Also how difficult is the process to go from M33 to GEN-D?

Seconded. I had no need to update until recently getting a game that requires newer firmware. Now I don't know whether I have to go through some convoluted update path like GEN-A GEN-A2 GEN-B GEN-C GEN-D GEN-D2 GEN-D3 or can cut to the chase, or what. Just downloaded D3, but the included readme is not enlightening, and pspgen.com is not English.

I'm sure the answer is someone in this thread's pages, but that's a hell of a lot of pages.

If you have M33, then flashing to GEN is as simple as, well, flashing your FW. :D When I made the jump to GEN, from M33, I read you have to take the convoluted path (A, to B, to C, to C2, etc.).

OK I want to play GBA games, but my brother has my DS. How good is the GBA emulator on the PSP. I remember it being fullspeed for a lot of games, but there were some major problems such as crashing and freezing for some games. Has the compatability improved. Oh and is SNES emulation still shitty in comparison to Genesis.

i have gen-d3 or whatever it was called and i use mvs/gba emulators fine. i *think* i had cps2 too with it, though it might have been with an older version of m33. either way, whatever i tested worked fine.

gba emulation runs at full speed for the few games i've tried btw. i've heard it was close to "perfect" but i'm just passing second hand info, so don't take my word for it

when i updated my fw last time, i remember going to a, then b, i *think* i skipped c then went d -> d2 -> d3. the updates are pretty quick and the files are small

Is there any way to access the playstation store on custom firmware right now? I have to deactivate my psp account and I can't get online.

Do I have to revert to official firmware to do this?

Anyone? Kind of urgent. :(

Thanks for the quick reply. Two more quick questions:

How do I go back to official firmware.

and

Can I install custom firmware again after I'm on the current official firmware?

EDIT: whoa so I can use the PC PSN Store to deactivate my psp? Will try that now. Thanks DMPrince.

I was wondering if there is a patch or any firmdate thats stable recently that allows you to play the "half minute hero" euro version? Because I have had the game for over a month and been unable to play it as I had to wait for the costum firmware to get up to date.

It worked fine for me once I'd ripped the UMD to a stick. If it's any help, I'm using 5.03 GEN-C, due to being stuck with a TA88v3.

I did the same for LBP, but I'm really starting to feel the pain of not being able to update. I'm pretty close to buying a PSP just for homebrew and keeping the gaming one distinct.

Finally back on the PlayStation Store through custom firmware plugin PSN****er developed by coder Vosman, which henceforth will be accessible through our account to the PlayStation Network to visit the store, download content and, last but not least, play multiplayer titles that require it. The prx is based on PSNnabler, which recently released Redha SourceAnd is compatible with CF 5.xx. To use it you must install it like any other plugin, if we were to encounter an error when logging on CF 5:50 GEN-D3/5.03 may need to set the recovery menu option "Fake region" to "Debug Type I "and disable the M33 network update.

Seems to be a mod of the one of the two CFW plugins that allow us to play PSP games online over PSN, but with added functionality restoring store access as well! I haven't tested it yet, but it'd definitely be a rather cool development, if so!
