PSP delay confirmed in Europe

So says George Fornay, CEO of Sony Computer France

Source: http://www.play-attitude.com/news-384-La_Playstation_Portable_retardee_en_Europe.html

We made it clear it to you last Friday following the testimonys collected by our fellow-members of Eurogamer (see news) but, this time, information is official since it comes from George Fornay, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment France: the arrival of Playstation Portable is delayed, in Europe, the production having evil to follow vis-a-vis a demand keener than than envisaged the Japanese company.

Mr Fornay has thus explained that "taking into account the very keen demand in Japan, where a million consoles PSP were already sold, and the need for having a million parts in the United States for March 24, it is necessary to slightly delay European launching, so that it occurs the best possible one"

Hope than Sony will quickly communicate the date of exit of its console, on the Old Continent. If the most optimistic forecasts give a report on an arrival of the machine in June, the retailers whom we questioned this morning do not wait it, them, before September. Wait and see is, therefore, more than ever of rigour.

This isn't fair. How long do we have to wait? Its not like we're being compensated for the delay(expect prices way more expensive than the NA/Japanese PSP).

Looks like Sony won't hit their 3 million goal, and Nintendo might not hit their 6 million goal (although I guess they could, depending on exactly how successful this Euro launch turns out to be)

When is Sony supposed to have sold that many? Around the same time as the end of March (like Nintendo's estimate)? If so, I doubt Sony would sell that many. Or even ship that many. Nintendo however, will almost certainly ship 6 million and probably sell over 5. :)

I agree on the Sony front, but I think Nintendo will hit 6 million or come very very close (5.75m-6.0m)

Well, Sony's goal was 3 million by the end of march.

Just import. Quicker, cheaper, better

i don't understand why they didn't announce a later date for europe right away, they should have expected this plus it's not like europe isn't always last to get a console.

So much disrespect for Europe and Europeans, movies, games, heck even books are released later in Europe than in North America, what's up with that? Now this from Sony...

2 million in one week? Thats tough. Not like these goals mean anything though.

Please please tell me that was a joke. Missed estimates (1 million or 1/3rd no less) are a big, big deal.

it is necessary to slightly delay European launching

:lol

I think by the time PSP is released in Europe it may very well have Wipeout Pure 2 as a launch title...

:lol So true! Its really frustrating. Some games don't even make it to Europe; I just started playings RPGs recently and then I found out that less than 20% of RPGs are released over here. Movies are released much later(sometimes as late as three months or more). :lol

does anyone else think its another way to raise hype + anticipation. Sony's sort of done this sort of shit before you know. :|

They`re doing it because they know they`ll get away with it. Sony owns Europe. Fuckers. As much as i hate Nintendo, I really hope PSP will get hurt in Europe because of this.

Fall launch at earliest now.

If you live in Europe and you want to play local UMD movies on your PSP you can import from Japan, since they're also region 2. I can't imagine that there would be any problems unless they start to implement region encoding for games.

I will harm Sony Europe: SCEA +1 sale.

Import get¡

And it'll will probably cost you even less than buying it here (in Europe) given the Euro - Dollar exchange ratio.
