I hope they fix WPA-PSK detection, with the last firmwares it's a pain.
And improve changing account (I have games from some stores XD)

They give the retail chains a profit margin? When the regular consoles are maybe $5 profit margin for the retailers?

As for touchscreens, the point is that you can't have a useful web browser without a usable keyboard. No physical keyboard? Then you need a touchscreen keyboard. Now, of course, you could say it's just a game/media device, but ... it's a much harder sell not to have phone & web on there.

that's EXACTLY what Sony wants to happen. they have the 1 year old boy market and they want something smaller and simpler for older kids.

I'm not saying they're bound to succeed but they priced it knowing that tween kids won't be picking many of them up.

but this console can cut out retail for game sales. that's why there's gonna be a higher markup for retail to make up the difference. this was talked about for ages in the leak thread

i have an iphone so i dont need the psp to be an iphone. sony are not aiming it against the iphone.

its aimed at people who just want to take media on the go. i love it and will finally get one because of this. i want to be able to play gran turismo and then change to resident evil without having to bring out a game case and insert a new game.

its not really a hard sell at all.
 
$250? As if. :lol I could have four games at that price; a lot more if I bought at a discount. Thanks but no thanks, Sony.
 
They sold me one the second they showed MGS, but then they said MGS wasnt coming until 2010.


So I'll be getting one in 2010.
 
I'll be keeping my sexy white-Darth Vader PSP Slim :D But, while this is a great step forward for digital distribution not related to the PC market, I would describe the price as "pff".

You could also get a core 360 and a game but this is the PSP Go.

Compared to other consoles / portables, yeah, it's expensive. I thought it was a little too much when I saw the tag but I'm still probably going to pick it up. It looks awesome and I have way more downloaded games on the PSN than PSP games.

This. Also by next year this psp Go! (PSP-N1000) would be $199 or less and maybe we gonna see a PSP-N2000 with a 32GB int memory and some desires upgrades like an oled.
In the meantime and for now on ill go all digital (for PSP games, Psone games, etc) with my PSP-1000 and a M2 of 16GB with adapter, so when the time comes i dont have to worry about "what im going to do with my UMDs???"
 
It's a bit pricey but I think it looks pretty nice, I wasn't as excited until I saw it with a hand to give me some perspective, it's much smaller than I thought.

I won't be getting one right away but I think it's a nice step forward (Touchscreen would have limited use so I'm not too bummed they didn't include it).
 
Not excited for a slimmer model nor slide screen. Was planning on getting one but may just try to get a 3000 on sale now.

More excited to upgrade my PS3 to a slim than this.
 
The best part, as far as I'm concerned, is that if Sony's not touting improved battery life (a long standing PSP gripe), we edge closer to finding out that the no-UMD and smaller screen bonuses are compensated for with a smaller battery, so it all balances.

Still no touchscreen announcement, which will handily keep this thing from ever actually competing with the iPod Touch/Zune HD, and is extra entertaining in light of the push from both MS and Sony to make things more accessible via alternate control schemes they might have thought about just chucking one in there. The initial revision iPhone touchscreen cost $44 whole dollars back in 2007; I can't believe Sony couldn't have squeezed one in at $250 dollars.

And, sadly, I was right to believe there wouldn't be a PSP-3000 price drop. That thing is going to stay locked right where it is until Sony's forced to drop the Go to try and get more sales, because they are going to have a hard enough time finding a large market for the Go now.

I sincerely hope this whole thing was an extremely cheap experiment for Sony, design-cost-wise. It doesn't actually follow the DSi philosophy, in that the DSi had a whole list of things it could do that its predecessor could not that justified it costing more. The Go basically has:
-Is Smaller
-Built In Storage, 16 GB
-Less Bulky
-More Space Conscious
-Will fit in your pocket
-Lighter
-Takes Up Less Space
-Offers More Game Per Cubic Inch Than Previous PSPs
-Is More Expensive And Therefor Clearly Better

I swear watching Sony launch hardware is like watching a bird repeatedly fly into a plate glass window.

Again, 16GB Ipod touch is $300.

Adding features is not an problem, pricing them is... touchscreen is most expensive part of this design.

I would not buy a Itouch either both are way over priced. The PSP Go is 70 dollars to expensive. I can't believe people are trying to justify the cost. I guess apple and sony have their fan boys justifying over priced things.

I totally get that; Apple can charge ultimately ridiculous amounts for their players because it's a market they've more or less owned for years and have thusfar managed to stay ahead in. My point was more that the initial PSP Go thread was filled with people saying it was ridiculous to expect a touchscreen included because they're so extremely pricey, and teardowns of the initial iPhone/iPod touch revealed the screen had a production cost of about $44 two years ago. I haven't been able to find a PSP Teardown with pricing to contrast that with the cost of the average PSP screen, but I have a hard time believing the touch-screen would have thrown them anywhere near the red on the system.

Sony's not approaching this from a position of strength--they're trying to break into a market that has been fine and evolving more or less without them--and the decision to leave out one of the major draws of that market just seems a poor choice. People like interacting with stuff directly, and that they've chosen to price themselves as they did and leave out the features they did will restrict the audience for the Go, which seems ultimately a poor choice.
 
Sony probably make a double on this than the original PSP.

-Less materials,
-Smaller screen,
-No need for UMD drive,
-No need to produce retail copies of games,
-Almost $100 price increase.

Remember the GO is smaller not because it has better technology to make things smaller and more compact, but because it takes out a lot of features.
Even if I don't own a PSP, I probably want the old PSP than this one, as you can download games on that too and most stores usually bundle free memory stick with PSP these days.

Only dumb people will buy. Are you the one?
 
If I could rip my UMDs and put it on the harddrive, it'd be a day 1. But I honestly see nothing in this for me to upgrade from my CFW 2000.

It's definitely designed to bring in new people... at an outrageous price... so kind of a contradiction there.

The only reason I would get this now is because of the probablility that PSP games sold on the PS store will be cheaper than retail... hence causing me to buy more games via download and needing more space... so the 16gb is helpful.

But then I could just do what I always do and buy cheaper UMDs when they're used... so I won't need the space anyway.

Sorry Sony... it's just not for me. I was so ready to jump all over this, and at a cheaper price I may still have... but I just can't justify it.

It's still gorgeous though.
 
First thing from the press release at least they are packing in the media software to get the media on the device.

Second thing I was in a huge MSN chat everyone said it'll be £150 and everyone wanted one to jesus hell no in one second.
 
Why would you buy this? You could get a PSP 3000 and like sixty 8GB memory cards for the same price. And the two machines basically would function the same...AND you'd have UMD in the event you ever wanted it.

How about no Sony. A little too much. I already have an iPhone, no touchscreen, no UMD so I can't play my brother's PSP games and as I live in Canada I cannot take advantage of the movie/music support they a touting for the PSN.

It does look slick though...

Why not the 360 is cheaper than the Wii. Sony is trailing in the market the answer is not to a huge price increase with no new features. Now if the new PSP go had a touch screen and other new features I could see charging more.
 
So... if this logic holds up when the PS3 Slim comes around, it'll have no hard drive, and cost 200 dollars more than the 80 Gig PS3's.

I REALLY don't understand this. I was super interested in the idea of a smaller/UMD free PSP, and today all I came away thinking was "Maybe I should get a DSi instead..."
 
So should I get a PSP 2000 or 3000?
I will probably get a PSP go when the price has gone down.
But I would like to hear if I should pick the 3000 over the 2000 model.

You wish. The PSP launched at $249 in a Value Pack SKU, they did dabble in a $299 Giga Pack with a 1GB stick if I recall rightly..

$50 cheaper where? I'm not familiar with Euro pricing, but I thought the US launch pack was $249, and the Japanese launch bundle was 24800Y (so actually cheaper)

How important is sticking the thing in your pocket to you? If it's your #1 concern, go for the Go.

Otherwise, you can get a PSP-3000, one of a variety of memory stick options, and a crapton of PSN cards for more or less the same price and duplicate the PSP Go digital-download-only experience at a better (though less pocketable) value
 
If I did not own a touch 8gb I would think about the pspGO, it looks nice to me, it's small in size and there are games I want to try out and play on the thing, but not any time soon.

whatever the price, it is still the most expensive part of the device... things add up.
Sony just priced themselves, with similar feature set (more gaming, less touch), $50 less than their biggest competition.

As to the Palm Pre's display is estimated to cost $40 (by far the most expensive thing), device is supposed to cost $170 to build and they are charging Spring $300 for it. Difference between $170 and $300 is not just their profit margin, it accounts for other things such as R&D, Marketing, etc, etc.
 
It's $50 more than i wanted to pay but i'll see where my money situation is at launch and go from there.

$80 more than a DSi? a Nintendo Wii is the same price, hell you can get a 360 sku for that much.
