PSP Go? 249.99!!!!

$70 too expensive? You really want this at the same price as the DSi?? Would you like a Sony rep to give you a handjob with that, too?

I'd say drop it further. Should be cheaper then the 3000. Aside from the built in memory it's all around a huge step down from the current PSP.

Should have been $199.99, but I can see why this device is priced at $249.99 when you compare it to other ipod type devices. Also, Nintendo is charging $169.99 for the DSi.

Why would you buy this? You could get a PSP 3000 and like sixty 8GB memory cards for the same price. And the two machines basically would function the same...AND you'd have UMD in the event you ever wanted it.

I agree with this if I liked the original design of the PSP. I absolutely cannot play any 3D games on it at all since I don't like where L1 is mapped on the unit in relation to the analog nub.

I'm hoping things are closer on the PSP GO. Otherwise I probably would get a 3000 and a bigger memory stick to use with it. Also, I have zero interest in umds.

This was the price I was expecting it to be which means I'll just wait a little longer to get one.

Aside from size difference, you also get a speed difference in games. As it'll be stored in the memory, the game will load far faster while you're playing it. Still, no assurance on the UMD games we already own means I'll wait.

What the shit is the hard on for a touchscreen? No games would use it cause it would split the community, it servers zero purpose whatsoever. Why did this NEED to have a touchscreen again?

Any announcement for full games that would be d/loadable for PSPGo. Hopefully MHFU!!!!!!

Navigating media would be much easier I guess. I don't really care about that though.

Sony just priced themselves, with similar feature set (more gaming, less touch), $50 less than their biggest competition.

The problem is that they're doing nothing that will actually make this a viable Touch competitor other than saying it is. It's going to be shelved in the gaming ghetto at retailers, it still has PSP slapped on the back, and it won't play DRM'd iTunes music. The design does scream of iPod Touch and Zune HD, with the minimalist controls when closed, but that's not going to get very far when people demo one and realize there's no touching involved.

Somebody walks into Best Buy, 8GB of onboard memory isn't going to convince them to pay $30 more and lose touch functionality to get a PSP over the entry-level iPod touch unless they wanted a PSP to start with.

As to the Palm Pre's display is estimated to cost $40 (by far the most expensive thing), device is supposed to cost $170 to build and they are charging Spring $300 for it. Difference between $170 and $300 is not just their profit margin, it accounts for other things such as R&D, Marketing, etc, etc.

The Palm Pre, at $50 more than the PSP go, includes R&D for an entirely new platform (PSP Go will be reusing a ton of tech already covered under the existing PSP R&D), a touchscreen, a three megapixel camera, superior WiFi connectivity (g vs b), built-in GPS, everything inherent in being a cellphone, and proximity detectors and accelerometers. It sacrifices 8GB of storage.

That comparison doesn't really make me feel like Sony couldn't have somehow squeezed a touchscreen into the budget. (And, yeah, cell phone contracts, but--the only way you're getting a game on the PSP Go is downloading from Sony, so they've got a long-term income plan.)

Browser, media, especially if you wanna use it close. Thats the only reason for me

We mustn't forget theoretically longer battery life as well.

In this case I don't think it is that people want a touchscreen in their PSPs as that without a touchscreen charging $250 is obscene.

Unless it has an unscratchable glass screen like the iPod Touch it's no buy for me. After having the iPod Touch I can't go back to messing around with cases and fretting about screen damage.

How can it be more expensive if it's gimped? Whatever.

nope.

not at 250.

not at 200.

Same. Especially for a gimped PSP.

And that's exactly what it is. The OG PSP can do digital distro just fine, and along with it you dont have to give up the the advantages of physical media.

There's also the smaller screen and what seems like a pretty uncomfortable placement of the analog nub. Unless you really want to put your PSP in your pocket, it's a downgrade.

Sony raising the price on 5 year old technology is just a ripoff.

Whats the point of having the thing slide closed if you cant access ANYTHING when it's closed.

Touch screen would do wonders for it's media functions when it's closed.

White PSPGo!, day one for me.

You are part of the problem.

When I *do* buy one, it's going to bug the shit out of me that this thing still only has one goddamn joystick.

....and no access to the vast physical library.

Sorry, I have a BIG problem when they release a handicapped product and try to push it as AWESOME.

White one is way less fugly. If I can somehow copy my UMDs to it, I'll consider an upgrade when it's $199. If not, fuck you Sony.

was the white one on display?

no, only the black ones

also, after speaking to some folks, they are considering multiple options for transfer your old library, they weren't in detail but when I threw out my opinion (psp-->ps3) they got all quiet lol.

:D

TBH I purchase most gear day one, I'm not saying I'm rich or anything because I'm not, but I don't really care about the price, most true day one purchasers like myself will buy it anyway just to get their hands on the tech early, people that say they are day one @ $199 but not @ $249 make me lol, I don't really believe they were ever day one at all.

That good to hear, but I still need to play it myself to determine that though.

Everyone wants touchscreen, 2nd nub, wireless G and everything else for $169.......

If it included all that there would be a lot less people complaining about the price. The problem is they added nothing and are charging more. It would be like them releasing the PS3 slim for 499.

yeah, its more of personal preference so you may need it in your hands.

16gb on flash is nothing now?

psp-3000 and a 16gb flash stick = psp go

oh and bluetooth

Sony probably make a double on this than the original PSP.

-Less materials,
-Smaller screen,
-No need for UMD drive,
-No need to produce retail copies of games,
-Almost $100 price increase.

Remember the GO is smaller not because it has better technology to make things smaller and more compact, but because it takes out a lot of features.
Even if I don't own a PSP, I probably want the old PSP than this one, as you can download games on that too and most stores usually bundle free memory stick with PSP these days.

Only dumb people will buy. Are you the one?
It adds bluetooth and 16GB internal memory. A 16GB memory stick costs around $60. I honestly doubt a UMD drive costs that much. But the main reason for the increased price is retail. Sony can get away selling a PSP-3000 for a low retail profit gain because the retailers assume the person will be back buying games. Games are one thing that gives retailers money. For the PSP Go!, if someone buys it, retailer isn't selling any games. If a retailer was making a very small amount from it, I doubt they'd want to sell it. By giving a retailer a larger profit margin from each PSP sold, now that may please them more. That's part of the reason various electronic devices are marked up.

i think i'm used to being raped on electronics prices here in Aus so the cost doesn't strike me as that high. well not ludicrously high anyway. i feel more sorry for European buyers, just slapping a 250 euro price tag on it is incredibly obnoxious.

importing is still an option, until some kind of region locking on downloads is put in place (and i'm sure it will be, given Sony's arrogance)

we'll see. still a potential purchase for me...

And that's not realistic, especially considering they are removing the mechanical aspects of the UMD drive.

There's ZERO reason a gimped handheld should be $90 more expensive than the standard core unit.

I forgot bluetooth,

it has more shit, I can imagine people getting all pissy for $250, people was pissy when talk was going about $200.

I got that, but when they add and change all kinda shit, you guys want it for $169 or some bullshit. Come on dawg really!??!

I thought the price was ridiculous.

but considering how much i have and probably will pay for in a MP3 player going into the future. I'd say the PSPgo is the clear better value.

CLEAR better value.

Sometimes you just gotta put shit into perspective.

Now for the great debate. Zune HD or PSPgo

fuuuuuuuuuuuuck

rofl i'm totally going zunehd you kidding me?

I don't want one because I refuse to go digial download only when there is only one store, but i am shocked at how many of you are throwing a fit over $50.

So at $199 you would have bought it, but at $249 it suddenly turns into garbage? perspective.....

Not upgrading the wifi to 802.11G was a mistake. It may not seem like it makes much difference, but try to download a 500MB PS1 game direct to your PSP (without a PS3 or a computer with SonyConnect. I did.

Once.

Hell, the DSi has 802.11G, and it doesn't deal with files near the size of most of the PSP games.

Most people will use a PS3 or computer to manage their games, but G helps if you are in a pinch and want to download over a hotspot or something. That's the point of DD, convenience.

Not to mention increased range and stability with G.

So, are there going to be PSP GO-only games? Or, is Sony going to release a UMD and a digital version of all future PSP games?

The latter. Sony said in their conference that all future games will be available in retail and online. Though I suppose some might be download codes like Patapon 2. With 50 million PSPs out there and no new hardware features to take advantage of, I don't see any PSPGo only games happening.

They didn't add ANYTHING that makes up for the REMOVAL of playing the existing physical media plus the extra $90 upcharge

Smaller screen
No access to exisiting library
pointless slide functin (if you cant do anything with the screen with it closed, it IS worthless)

Honestly, you're getting the better deal by buying a PSP 3000 bundle and adding your own 16 gb stick.
