PSP Menu Help (Minna no Golf and Ridge)

Atari2600

Too dumb for the internet
Is there anywhere that has some info on the menus for Ridge or Golf, or can anyone give me a brief rundown on their own? When I imported my PS2, I remember finding a site that translated some instruction manuals, but I haven't found anything like that just yet. I can make my way through Ridge just fine, but I'd like to know some of the options.

Golf on the other hand - I have played for hours and hours, and I always win, but I have not unlocked any courses, I just keep earning hats and crap like that. I've done the tourney a few times, the 9 hole in, and the 9 hole out, and even the putting game.

One gameplay question on golf. How do I get the good back spin? I know I can hit down to make the shot go higher, but I don't get spin. I kind of remember having to double tap it in past games, but I can't remember the timing.

Thanks for any help you can offer. :)

to get the super backspin, you have to hold "up" on the control pad as you start the shot, and then hit "down" just as you're finishing the shot. you can reverse these directions for topspin, and adapt them for sidespin.

it sucks that unlocking stuff is, again, convoluted and time-consuming. that's the only problem i had with minna no golf 4.

from another board:

"The way to unlock new courses and new apparel is to play tournaments. When you select the first menu which is blue on the main screen, then go into the second screen of menus and select the second menu which is orange. This shows the different competitions you can play along with the star they offer. When you fill your star bar up you open new golf courses and new tournaments as well as gain new apparel like clothes and sunglasses, etc...."

Hope that helps

Thanks drohne. I can't believe it takes this long to unlock a new course. I figured I'd at least get the people I beat as playable characters, but instead I get their clothes. Yay?

Well since there aren't many courses (6 total I think according to Famitsu) they have to make them hard to get to stretch out replay value.

Does the first game option (Stroke play) actually do anything, or do you just play the same course over and over? Does this mode actually progress you , or is it just a way to play on the courses you've already unlocked?

Is there anyway to play matchplay other than through challenge mode?

Also, is there an option for one machine multiplayer? I guess the second option on the main menu is multiplayer, but is it wifi only?

This is the game that made me notice I've got a dodgy square button. Its ok if I press the right side of it, but not if I press the left.

Same here. Those "x-rays" pix posted in the other thread where correct after all. Still, if you just press the button with the pressure you would normally apply to any other pad button you are fine no matter which side of the button you push.

Still need help with the menus? If so, let me know which ones in particular you're stuck with and I'll try to help out. (Don't just say "everything" though cause it's a lot of work.) :)

Cheers!

Hey, John, in RR, what does it say in the "treasure chest" screen? I've yet to unlock anything it seems, yet I'm already doing duels with special cars. And what's up with the "EX" category? It doesn't look harder than the PRO one. Thanks.

You've prolly already figured this out (sorry for the delay), but if you've made it to EX class, you should start seeing stuff in that section soon. It's the "Prizes" area, for prizes you've unlocked during play.
