PSP: Use Windows Briefcase to sync your files

1. Create a new briefcase by rightclicking on your desktop and select New > Briefcase.
2. Connect your PSP to your computer and go to USB connect in the home screen.
3. Drag the contents of your memory stick into your briefcase.

Whenever you want to sync, connect your PSP to your computer and select USB Connect, then rightclick on your briefacse and select update.

Remember that the briefcase IS NOT a backup. It merely updates whichever location has an older version of a file (or no file at all) with the more recent version from the other location. In otherwords, if you delete a save file off of your PSP and update, you will be prompted whether or not to delete the file from your briefcase.

i've only tested this on Windows XP, but it should work in Windows 98 since it had the briefcase as well.

If anyone knows of a freeware sync utility that syncs on connect, like those used for USB flashdrives, please let me know.

Why not just use Windows Explorer?
Say you're converting a number of files and you leave home with your PSP. Set the program to output the files to the briefcase, and when you get back, connect your PSP and update it. Using explorer, you'd have to drag the files from the folder on your hard drive onto your PSP, and if you encode a movie and made new saves, you'd have to manually update those files. It's not a huge difference, i guess coming from a PDA background i'm more used to synching. It's also less of an issue because, unlike on a PDA, you don't create content (outside of save files) on the PSP.

A better sync solution would save the synched files on your hard drive, so if you corrupted a save on your PSP, you could just reload an older version of it.

i think it's iPSP that does synching by default, but it's not free.
