I have no idea lol. I just really like vr I have a gear vr which I use 4-5 times a week.it just really difficult to jusifity spending over $800 for a device I might not use that often.I tend to jump in on the ground floor when it comes to new technology. This time however I'm trying to fight the addiction.

In euro, it would have been 449 (camera package) + 85 (twin move pack) + 80/100 for a couple of games + I have PS4 Pro preordered (200 with old PS4 trade-in) so it would have been almost 900 eur of videogames hardware alone.

Not counting I've just bought Xbox One S and next NX which I'll buy at launch and I hope it will launch the soonest.

But main reason I canceled is I know I would use Vr maybe just out of curiosity the first times and stop. I own Samsung Gear VR and the maximum fun I had with it was playing Golden Axe on the virtual coin op, but after that I didn't even check for new games.

Fact is that VR isn't generally that comfortable and picture quality is way below what we're accustomed. Anyway, I will try PSVR in a few days at Games Week and then decide.

Enjoy the endless number of games in your backlog and come back to VR a little later. Q1 2017 is going to be big for regular PS4 releases anyway.

A small price drop say $450 for the bundle plus a rise in the CAD dollar to say 0.85 can save you quite a bit.
 
Just went to the electronics mall behind my apartment here in Seoul. Noticed a "PlayStation Experience" section there a few weeks ago with half a dozen PS4s and half a dozen Vitas setup for people to play. Thought there would be a PSVR setup considering it's two days from release. Nothing there, a few posters for PSVR games but that's all.

Totally random but as it's an international forum anyone know if there's a place to try it out in Seoul?

Exactly. And either if we like it or not, Facebook believes in VR and I don't think they will stop developing the technology just because Oculus did not sell that well on it first try.

Perhaps we will need 2 more generations until VR is completely matured and affordable but we will get there for sure and whoever does it first will probably sell A TON.

People saying now that VR is just a fad are just so shortsighted that it's almost pitiful, really. It's going to be funny reading some of these comments in 5 to 10 years.

Basically my thinking as well. Cancelled my preorder as well. £349 but I was able to put it towards carpets. Sad as it seems but I don't think I will miss not having it. Hopeful that down the line it will be better with games and updates but seems a risk to jump in the now for me personally.

You could argue that you don't need carpets with PSVR but I don't think family members will see it that way. :)
 
So the show Good Game reviewed the psvr tonight and some experiences. Despite the disembodied hands visibly shaking a little at times during the recorded segments (in London heist), bajo remarked very favorably on the tracking of both moves and headset. But he was sitting very close.

Sitting close shouldn't really matter, unless your playing a game that requires you to reach because obviously the closer you are the less of a viewing angle the camera can pick up. So unless he was reaching outside of the cameras view, it shouldn't matter. In that case it would say out of play area.

A few outlets have commented that there lights/green screens/monitors etc have cause interfence that is not experienced when units taken home and played. Kindafunny did have some problems with it in there lets plays but were very clear this was probably the giant video screen/proffestional lights and had not experienced it during play at home during the weeked. So unless getting VR to produce content in a proffestional studio etc should not affect you.

Well PSVR has a better chance on that front. In fact those that tried VIVE might consider a reasonably good (but better pound for pound) PSVR.

But the point was about the social screen not working as a way to entertain more than one person at a time

I was in the exact same mindset when I cancelled a couple of weeks ago. I was (and still am) really looking forward to PSVR, but I have too may other things going on right now that the $900-$1000 could be spent better else where. I'll hopefully come back to it next year, or possibly around Christmas if there are any decent promos.

How may people have a $1000+ gaming PC that can run a vive effectively, that wouldn't already know what a vive is?

Owning a PS4 is a much more common/casual thing than owning a high end gaming PC. I would be there are a significant amount of PS4 owners that don't even know what PSVR is.

The Vive requires an almost dedicated room, you have to mount cameras on the wall, you need a lot of space, it's a process

I'm not saying your wrong, but comparing the purchasing influence playing a vive will have to playing a PSVR is not one to one at all.

Same here. I've only used a DK2 one time a few years back and really loved the experience. I'm excited to get mine this week.
 
So, stupid question maybe, but I stream on Twitch a lot.
Can I still stream with PSVR? Will the camera feed still show? Can I use the headset's microphone as an input?

I believe you can stream whatever is appearing on the TV (either your view or a second view if it's a second screen game) but I doubt you can use your camera to show your face at the same time it's being used for VR. This is not confirmed but I do know for a fact that the Share functions work during VR.

It streams the social screen so it's only 720p. Not sure on the camera feed. You can use the mic.

Even if prices drop, the total sales will be so small that publishers won't even care. It's good for indie developers due to the low expectation of sales. Big publishers only care about sales higher than 10M.

I don't think anyone- the manufacturers included- think this gen will be anything more than a niche. This release is all about just getting the technology out there, and then trying to make a break into the mainstream 5-10 years down the line when prices can go down and the equipment will be less unwieldy. Oculus's all in one headset is a good step in that direction.

Trust me, I don't think FB is dissatisfied with whatever Oculus has sold. This was a long term move a la Google's moonshots. VR is the end game, and all of those problems you mentioned will be solved with time.

Why was it so much for you guys, taxes? not that its a lot less, but mine came to $621CAD with taxes, this is the normal version though, not the fancy bundle...

Well, the launch bundle (if you don't have the camera and Move controllers) is $700, so with taxes it is just shy of $800. Add a game (or three) on top of that and it's pretty close to a $1000 investment.

Not to say it might not be worth it, I really want to pick one up sooner or later, but I've been burned on expensive products in the passed that I simply didn't get much use out of (ie. Fanatec racing wheel setup).

I mean, doesn't the PSVR also, essentially need its own dedicated room in that it has a nest of wires to arrange and a stationary camera? You're not really going to be moving that thing room to room.

PSVR (to me) seems no different to any other 'controller' other than it's wired - essentially, once the main wiring is done the headset is easy to put away and plug back in. It's certainly not any more intrusive than just a PS4 (with camera).

Have you even seen the VIVE setup? There's cameras around the room and most games seem to be 'full room' experiences, whereas PSVR it's largely a sit-down affair.

thats my biggest beef with PSVR. Room scale seems like the future of VR. I personally would never want to invest that much money in a headset that already seems limited at launch.
 
I recommend people not watch Jim Sterling's Jimquisition on the VR. It's really poor. This is coming from someone with a lot of respect for Jim.

Can't wait for all of you to be dipping your toes into the warm, balmy virtual reality ocean! Going to be so great hearing all these experiences. Really glad the reviews are so positive, too, for a first wave.

PSVR definitely isn't better pound-for-pound in terms of the experience. It is better value in terms of convenience and comfort. But the Vive's room-scale experiences easily make up for the higher price. You can't get those with Rift, PSVR or Gear/Cardboard. Room-scale Vive is a fucking game-changer.

Edit: also on the 'social screen' front, I've entertained groups of up to five people with one Vive set. Just watching somebody try it for the first time, see them have their mind blown, laugh at the little things they try and mess up, laugh when they're terrified by a horror game - watch everyone get excited about having a go on it - then also the handful of really fun party games you've got which do actually involve other people in the room.
