PSVR2 Review Units Sent Out, LOTS of Surprises coming before Launch

Color me impressed for a much better simplicity

Imagine how far they'll get with PSVR3...

Maybe wireless? But if not, I won't care.

I'll have a PS6 and a wire. Would prefer them to push the boundaries on visuals and immersion

It literally has to be wireless. Like someone above said, it's the obvious next big step. They'll make PS6 with that in mind too. Ol boy will get in his bath tub and figure out how to engineer it. They shouldn't even release a PSVR3 until it can be done wirelessly.

The jump will take a hit. But think like PS2 to PS3. Remember how making games in HD was a hit to the games because the resolution was using so much processing power from the console?

I hope they have a "basic" PSVR at the lowest cost possible with a wire, but that wire is detacheable and you can instead buy a standalone "kit" that has a battery and WIFI receive necessary for the wireless transmission

Sounds like the Eye Tracking makes a huge difference. He says the difference in clarity is night and day
Its also interesting the comments they make right after how they had to change some gameplay elements because the eye tracking changes the way you play since you start to look around more naturally as you get used to it, pretty cool.

I was hyped most by the fact that they said for that "you can't go back!" I plan to buy the PSVR 2 in May but I don't know if I will resist that long ...

Had an email today from Sony saying payment is being taken next Friday. Can't imagine it will get here early, but here's to hoping! Can't fucking wait!

Smart idea.

Nope, I'm in the UK. Friends and family who preordered also received it. Wouldn't read too much into it if I'm honest. It's not a dispatch email, now that's exciting!

The only thing I'm reading into is that you're very likely to get Day 1 shipments since it will charge when it ships.

So those getting this email that pre ordered will probably get one day 1.

I got that email a few hours ago, not reading anything into it though as I only pre ordered at the beginning of January

To be honest, I imagine anyone who preordered will get it day one as they opened up the preorders from being invite only.

I also reckon that anyone ordering this week will get it day one. Probably not as high demand for it like they thought.

This week will build the hype though as the review units are in peoples hands.

Why does every single VR thread turns into a HL Alyx circlejerk? (and stealth port beg)
Yeah it's nice, but not something that every gamer must desperately play.
There are more games...
That's where you are wrong. It's hands-down the best VR experience on the market. It's 100% something every game should get to experience.

I have ZERO interest in FPS games. My interest in VR is for Moss, Demeo, Astro Bot, Bloody Hell Hotel, etc.
Fair enough, but statistically speaking action and shooting games are historically the most popular and best selling genres in gaming, so it's understandable why a game like Half Life: Alyx is wanted greatly for the PS VR2, especially since it stands at the top of the mountain as the shining example of what is possible when an AAA studio creates a VR game with an AAA budget.

For example, if tomorrow Jim Ryan and GabeN announced that HL: Alyx was coming to PS VR2, or that CoD was getting an exclusive VR version for PS VR2, it would be a game changer for the platform in regard to sales.

Just finished watching it, what a great interview! This has hyped me even more, their excitement is contagious!

They talk about how you can't tell if the screen is on when showing black thanks to the OLED screen and the lack of light leaking and how they had to change some cutscenes that fade to white because the HDR brightness was too much although it seems they are not properly supporting HDR? I did not understand that part.
They talk about how the haptics on the headset helps with grounding you to the world, like entering and coming out of the water you can feel that, i wonder if you can simulate actual drops of water? That would be crazy.
They say this will clearly be the high end VR headset to beat for a while.

Its pretty obvious that people that have only ever played PSVR1 or this is their first time using VR it will blow their minds.

Yea there are a few guys here that haven't tried VR ever and this will be their first experience. I'm already looking forward to the responses.

Yeah im really looking forward to first impressions and reaction videos of first timers, its always fun to see. Also can't wait for John's review, im sure he will be gushing about it and he always does a great show showcasing new tech.

It would most definitely be an option for the highest fidelity and performance.
Maybe this is not needed if they manage to get Wifi (or whatever) to send the image with no latency and in full quality over the air. I mean the PS6 comes in like 4-5 years, so technology has some time to develop. But 4K with 120fps needs quite some data...
Anyway, we would still have the problem that we need a cable to avoid needing a battery...

Are you in the US? Because I have not received such an email yet
I got the same email in Germany.

It's the best VR game and probably will still be after the 22nd. And it's not close.

It uses USB-C which will run in DP Alt Mode for the data transfer needed, so unless they enable one of the high speed back ports to run in Alt Mode (you would also need a regular USB dongle to attach to the PSVR2 chord, then probably not. I would assume they will only enable Alt Mode on the front one, but we shall see.

DP alt mode is specific to USB-C. The USB-C cable was designed to be plugged in either way and some wires were duplicated to enable this. Those duplicated wires, some are used when plugged in in one orientation, and the others when plugged in the reverse orientation. For either orientation, the unused wires can carry DP signals just like a DP cable. This is Alt Mode.

USB-A doesn't have extra unused wires so it's not possible to do Alt Mode on Type A.

I would still imagine an option based on battery life alone.

Well there we go. Thanks for that info.
