PSVR2 Review Units Sent Out, LOTS of Surprises coming before Launch

Tomorrow will be pretty fun when all the videos start to land. I wonder if hands on will have moved the needle for some of these folks who were tepid.

I'm looking forward to all of the previews and news from tomorrow onwards. It's been far too quiet on that front. It should ease the pain of waiting for our new toys to arrive next week. I'm seriously chomping at the bit.

No? Phew that's relieving, i thought it would be very painful to hit your head like that. No i will think about buying this strange thing.
I'm thinking of playing Kayak VR whilst in the bath. I may even steal a few large rocks from the local park so that I can bang my controllers against them. 😂

I was looking at that other thread, and didn't see the info…. Does Saints and Sinners 1 update have a date?

this rails shit is for first timers ngl..
if you ever owned a set you mostly will be skipping all of this
Definitely not my kind of game (usually I hate rollercoaster games), but I'm so hungry to see some footage (even if 2d flatscreen youtube videos) that I watched it anyway:messenger_grinning_sweat:

It was useful to see some details, too.

Reading is tough.

I get it, most peeps here are just fanboys, can't hear any reasonable criticism etc. All good, - enjoy your new headsets.
No, nobody gives a shit about your over the top downplaying. We just want to play games and have fun doing it.

Go be a party pooper somewhere else.

idk man, it sounds like a bit of nitpicking because you disagree with the overall sentiment of my thesis. Neither one of us is winning this argument at this time, but time will tell, so let's circle back in a few months.
Fucking hell, are you still going?

We don't need to wait a few months, we don't have to wait a few days, or even minutes. Many here already have VR headsets NOW and don't experience any nausea. So just take the L and sit down.

I think you are VASTLY underestimating the layman's understanding of both virtual reality and actual reality.
Quite amazing to think that one only needs to simply move a finger to press a button to perform a jump in a game and not need to physically jump in the real world. How in the world does the layman cope with this dissonance?

I only had nausea once about an hour in playing DoomVR, but that was because I was high as a kite at the time, lol. Sober, no issues. Astro, etc, no issues.

Everyone's mileage is different. I have a friend who gets a little sick playing flat screen FPS games.

Can someone verify that audio via TV or receiver (surround sound) will not work when using PSVR2?
As far as I'm aware, that's only the case when using cinematic mode for media apps (Netflix, Disney+ etc) and watching Blu-rays / DVDs. There's no picture to the TV in these cases either.

Games should be fine, although you might need to unplug the earbuds.

High on the devil's lettuce? Thats how I stop myself from being nauseous, weird. If it was something else then I get it.

edit - just saw this is the post #420, perfect.

Your thumb is jumping. Total immersion.

For me, watching the DF video from the devs of "Song in the Smoke" that did it. Yes, I shouldn't be swayed by a single interview video. However... I was already on the fence - didn't own a PSVR, but borrowed one from a friend, and it was already so close to "there". This seems so much more "there". And it's been a while since I've bought myself a new toy. So, PSVR2+Horizon bundle preordered.

I'm super duper excited for RE8 VR now, the interaction makes it look like a whole new game, I can't wait to see how the other puzzles work.

I shouldn't preorder this because I can get more than 15% off it at work but I feel like it won't exactly be plentifully in stock everywhere.

Kayak, Horizon, Moss 2, Rez, CSmash and now RE8 will be more than enough for a few months, I like that I can still use it in cinema mode and get a giant OLED screen for playing my backlog too.

Will the haptics of a flat game come through the VR controllers (if they even have enough trigger buttons to be used for flat games) or would you have to use the DS anyway? I'm also curious what 1080p means for the cinema mode, is the floating screen 1080p and the viewport is higher res?

People say that the sense controllers are just a DS split in half, but they're not. They lack the dpad buttons, the touchpad, and the way they split the face buttons makes two of them practically unviable for most games. Devs would have to get pretty creative with some of the new features (motion / eye tracking) to use the sense controllers in a traditional game. Otherwise they need to use the dualsense.

Just the reality of it.

Oh, yes, but that could be the best of two worlds: I'm hoping for the third person VR treatment of all the possible flat screen games out from Sony and not Sony. Basically you control the game as usual (with the gamepad), from the same point of view, but that point of view is from inside VR. It just needs to disable the vertical input on the right stick (to not move the point of view up and down, but letting the player to look up and down or anywhere from that point of view in VR - Insomniac already did something like that for PC VR, and it was really good), the rest would be the same, but with depth, sense of scale, and grandeur :)
Just thinking of that for Spiderman 2 or TLoU makes me excited. I really hope they will do something like that. It's possible, it's the cheapest and easiest VR implementation, and it can be done on games that are not convertible to first person VR (like spiderman 2).

I think the gist of it, as far as I've been able to understand it, is that both the haptics and adaptive triggers are there.

But I sure as hell won't miss a Dpad or a touchpad in VR. Such things wouldn't work.

Two things.

I think it's super lame when people start to say don't criticize something. Way, way too often people get called out for console waring just because they have an opposing view. It's a forum to discuss opinions on hardware and games. I'm excited for psvr2, I can handle the fact that some people won't like it or things about it.

Second, is the embargo lifted at midnight or some other time tommorow?

Yeah, I'm most excited about third person games in VR and flat-screen conversions. I have all sorts of ideas about how you could use the sense controllers and head / eye tracking in amazing ways.

I was just saying that it would require creativity on the devs part, or you'd be stuck with using a dualsense, because the sense controllers aren't 1:1... they lack too many buttons out of the box, to just use them for a flat game.

The difference to "OG" PSVR is that there's no fallback to a controller. You can't get a headset without the new controllers. So there's no switching between a DS4 and Move controllers (which, if we're being honest, sucked ass and not in a pleasant way).

It sucks when they come in here and say PSVR2 will 100% be a failure though.

I ain't seen anyone going up their own ass trying to defend it. I've seen some batshit concerns though.

Like Sony making GT7 VR at the last minute because preorders were so bad. 8)

I was putting into context the lack of actual "interaction," - people seem to be getting the wrong idea or don't fully understand how VR works. Now obviously you're not going to be really touching the sides of a swimming pool etc, but there will be nothing save a tiny bit of haptic feedback (one assumes) in this case. This is never, ever convincing.

I have a gut feeling that Sony announces SoP tomorrow for Thursday. That's somewhat down to the wire considering they don't do much towards the weekend, especially when it comes to showcases/presentations.
