Psy's Gangnam Style Music Video

What exactly is Gangnam style? Is it just this song or is it like a style of something?

Like people have said Gangnam is an area in Korea, an affluent area.

The lyrics are about dating Gangnam girls. "Opa" means big brother, sister saying to brother, but it is also used by girls to any guy who is older than them. I work at a university here in Seoul and all the girls call their boyfriends and their male friends "Opa".

So the song kind of translates as " I only date Gangnam girls, here is why....". and then talks about reasons.

I live in Korea and I'm beginning to get sick of this song.

Need gif of elevator man.

Time to upgrade to GAF Gold, man.

The first time I got linked to it I was like what the hell is this, but it definitely grew on me.

Video was hilarious, and the song is pretty catchy I must say.

I still can't believe that of all the Korean songs to break out and become popular in America to the point that they even play it on the radio, that this was the one.

Catchy song though.

Im sorry to ruin the party but its quite unfortunate that the first k-pop song to make it big in USA had to be a Ken Jeong-thing. Its the whole Mickey Rooney stereotype living on... "crazy chinese dude"

I heard this song on the radio, and thought it truly sucked. Seemed like an anthem for douche-bag Gangnam people^^ (which i am sure it is in ROK)

Seeing the video, kinda explains the popularity though.

I feel conflicted about the Bieber manager news.

You should probably read the articles dissecting the video and lyrics, it's quite informative.
The Atlantic article in particular is quite informative.

Wow, that article is very interesting.

(Having sat alone at a Gangnam Starbucks and Krispy Kreme, surrounded by single girls looking rich and hot and busy with their iPhones, surely understands the coffee line.)

Psy, the Seo Taiji of 2010s?

That video is great, but this comment made me laugh:

Its very fucking simple people:
Korean: lot of O's and letters that look like Misigno pokemon
Chinese: Shit ton of everything houses and little complicated square crap
Japanese: Smoth simple lines (hiragana) plus some chinese (kanji)

Pretty accurate if you ask me.

I saw a pretty amazing loop of the EYYYYYYYYY part the other day, but now I can't find it

good on YG Fam though. now if only someone could convince Perry to do another solo hiphop album

I'm interested to see in what direction this will take him, now he's signed to Schoolboy Records.
I've listend to his EP sized album and it's filled with 'soft' hip-hop tracks with an R'nB flavor, with Gangnam Style standing out as the only banger. I don't think his original hip-hop/r'nb style will be a hit in the west. I expect him to make more catchy bangers, possibly in collaboration with dance/electronic producers who have been making hits with r'nb artists.

This...is not right. It's more like "check out my nontypical Gangnam style". The lyric is oppaN, which is possessive oppa.

It's basically the same thing that LMFAO. It's satirical nature is a little more direct, but it's really the same thing. Goofballs making wobble-house pop as dumb as they can.

I've tried to fight this buuuuut I kind of love it too. The red hair chick has so much swagger.
