Good for him getting signed on. I'm glad someone's still doing good POP music these days, and realizes they're supposed to be fun. Kinda like how the "Bye Bye Bye" and "Everybody (backstreets back) dances took off. But oddly enough, I think this one has even more so. Nothing wrong with fun music.

I had no idea how popular this song had become, and was shocked to hear it played at a baseball game over the weekend.

Its a catchy song, but if the guy looked like Rain it would have never flied.

The thing is that, asian male, have always had a hard time make any fame in any western entertainment industry. The only exception is Bruce Lee and Wuxi style, Jackie Chan and the crazy asian guy stereotype a la Ken Jeong.

There is one category of Youtube vids, that always fly with the western average joe: Some crazy japanese guy, doing some stupid.

That is just how asian male entertainers, have to behave to be able to penetrate fame.

One can write a whole book on why K-pop will never make the billboard. No matter if they sing in english or not.

This is why, which i said before. Its unfortunate that the first k-pop song to breakthrough in USA had to be a LMFAO meets Ken Jeong story.

This...is not right. It's more like "check out my nontypical Gangnam style". The lyric is oppaN, which is possessive oppa.

Ah, this has been bugging me. Thanks for the clarification on translation.

Not a comedy act?

Well he's been rapping for over a decade, has 6 albums, and composed Gangnam Style himself as well as the choreography.

So yeah I'd say he's pretty serious as an artist in spite of the easy-going vibe of the video.

looking at these live videos, im guessing he's been huge in Korea long before Gangnam style? Is that right? will be interesting to see how people respond to him in the US

Song is only moderately catchy, I really only need about a minute before I stop caring.
The video on the other hand, is one of the best things ever made.

My...god... this is a real thing?

The only thing I can think of why this thing would get any exposure outside of their local country is because people are using it to laugh at

The theme of mocking rich people was still obvious even if non-koreans couldn't get how specific the satire was intended to be.

Well yeah.. pretty much everyone agrees the video is hilarious. Way to state the obvious. As if humor is a bad thing.

Ah, my Korean is very basic. So ~는 becomes ~ㄴ in casual speech, I literally can't hear the n sound in the song! Korean's difficult.

The jester mocking the king while in his castle.

Amazing.

That's what I love about all of this despite not really caring much about the song. He's literally one of, if not the biggest Korean exports in recent times and he's ostensibly earning his fame by making a complete mockery of the nexus of his country's own financial and cultural envy.

It's straight up high art.

100 million views? Goddamn.

When I'm in a bad mood, I often put this video on. It can reliably cheer me up and make me laugh. I must have watched it at least 20-30 times by now.

Best moments:
- The two old dudes getting blown up.
- The elevator door opening (I always lose it at this part).
- The second chorus with the orange-haired girl dancing.

i feel like I've made a mistake watching this entire video without audio.

and i have the weird...e....s.....................

You mean like Community? Except this video is actually funny.

I am unclear of what you are saying here...and I don't have hangul on my mac so I can't respond well. But the 는 usually means like..."is", while the other, in this case, makes Oppa turn into "oppa's". I actually didn't hear it in the video either. Had to read it later lol
