Push Square “The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher”

Some have argued that cartridge-based software in the 90s was more costly, especially when adjusted for inflation;
This was always a dumb argument. The price of games is not about the cost of physical media. You're paying for the software. This is especially evident now given that most of the time you can get a better deal on a physical copy of a new game than a digital one.

This is why PC is the better buy. I can already get SH2 and other new releases for already 20% or more off of what it is on PS5.

I literally paid extra for SH2 on PC to do exactly what the article describes.

You should try reading the article.

They are right, but it's not something that started now but at the beginning of this gen iirc.

Games went from $60 to $70, And sales are now less attractive, for example Demon's Souls or Rift Apart lowest sale over PSN is $30, and we're 4 years in this gen, while i remember buying Days Gone after about a year from release date on PS4 for $20.

Also they had nice promotions over PSN, like get $15 off $100 purchases.

But it's manageable, my price to buy is gone from $20 to $30, and hopefully we won't see more increase in game costs.

Haven't you got the memo? Playstation = Bad, Everyone else = Good

You know you’re far gone when you’re accusing PushSquare of anti-PS bias

So is the OP? Are they PS centric to the point they forget Starfield exist or it is well so juicy and important to break this news to the forum that there is only time to copy and paste it as is without any commentary or any original thought?
Yeah, that must be surely it mate… wink wink ;).

Lmao, what is this post?
The OP quotes the article headline and properly attributes it to the website.

PC isn’t immune to paying extra for early access to the game, the main thrust of this article.

First of all, the price of EVERYTHING is going up and people can't stop talking about it. The phrase 'cost of living' is doing some heavy lifting this year.

Secondly, pay more to play early isn't new.
Anyone remember Forza Horizon 3? It didn't start this gen.

I know the OP did just that… quoted the article as is and the headlines and left it at that. Was it breaking news they were afraid they were going to be beaten at delivering? Afraid of losing the Pulitzer for not breaking the news fast enough 😂?

Sorry for expecting non earth shattering breaking news articles to be posted with some commentary or thought put to it.
Then again it is also “possible” that the article sounded juicy from a console war lens of the OP and it was best to bait forum posters like this. So yes, we took the OP’s bait while they are giddy seeing some people riled up.

Nevertheless, there was nothing in that article that deserved such rushed posting and it was framed shittily and the OP knows it (and they must be aware of plenty of precedent including Starfield last year)… so let’s not paint the OP as stupid as they are not.

I only did this for silent hill 2 then I was like why? Def don’t support this predatory trend plus yea early access means buggier games. Lose - lose situation for consumers.

The OP did the right thing. They repeated the headlines at PushSquare verbatim, but put it in quotes and clearly attributed it to the website.

Pushsquare has comments on their website, so you can leave feedback there. As many others are doing. They probably have ‘PS5’ in the header because they’re PlayStation centric.

The only real attempt at a console war lens here is ironically from you, shoving in Starfield repeatedly. It’s an industry wide thing, and has long been popularized by MS, EA, Take 2, Netherrealm and many others, since well before 2021.

Sure thing buddy. The OP was innocently posting news. Again, you are right it is an industry wide thing. Not started by MS.

We should focus on the thread title about a concerning new development PlayStation is leading the charge on. Keep being intellectually honest ;).

In most cases, I wait six months or so for a game since I know that it will probably have a sale at some point in there. Plus, I like to play them after they have been updated after a few months since there are a bunch of changes that take place during that time. Nintendo games are really the only exception to this.

Hearing about all the problems people had with Jedi Survivor at launch made me happy I played it for the first time this summer.

I noticed something weird about the Microsoft store on the Xbox. Every game is advertised as the most expensive edition. It took me a moment to realize why games that were “40% off” were still $80. I wonder how many people buy these digital deluxe editions straight from the Home Screen without even noticing there is a standard edition.
I’ve seen that and I think it’s a weird tactic. You’re supposed to present your lowest price available to people and only upsell them after they’re already hooked.

The article isn't limiting the topic to just PS5 though.

"Prior to its standard edition releasing, almost 90k concurrent Steam players were logged in on Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, confirming an enormous number of consumers had stumped up for the expensive “early access”. "

Saying PS5 bring in more eyes and debate. Modern journalism

Are you either high or is this your first thread on GAF?

It is also a self-described PlayStation centric website so their discussion will always primarily revolve around talking from the PS point of view.

Except the title of the article makes this out like it is a PS5 issue and then the first example, as I already showed you, was about DBZ on Steam. Being "PS centric" does not require a site to reference PS in every article title, especially when it is a widely known industry issue. Just comes across as clickbait. Not surprising as I've seen this Sammy Barker fellow do things like this on many occasions.

still doesn’t make sense for anyone to accuse PushSquare of ‘console warring’ against PlayStation

Idk, I only buy games Day-1 if I REALLY want them or if it is a multiplayer game that I'm somewhat interested and want to jump on early before a meta gets established. There is no rush on getting games day-1 unless you want to be part of the conversation about it.

Click bait, for sure. But the amount of posts in this thread saying they have an agenda is too damn high :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I have purchased games on day1 that i really want to play. Rest goes on sale. I can still play the game after a year of its release with all bugs fixed. Given the backlogs there are way too many games to play.

Article title says "PS5 games" but the article talks about all games, not just PS5. Who cares though? If you don't want to pay to get the game a few days early then don't.
To jump on the PS5 Pro price outrage bandwagon. I don’t understand how people fall for obvious clickbait.

Like anybody sensible gives a shit about playing games Day 1.

unless its a multiplayer game or some shit y'all really don't have much of a reason to give a fuck. Hop in at any time and enjoy the experience. You'll likely get a better one if you wait for prices to fall and patches to fix up.

Never buy digital games on day one, specially on consoles. I allways find cheaper physical editions even on release date, those consoles storefronts a the biggest scam on this industry.

Unless you need to play it right now, wait a year and buy it on sale.

OR............how about buy it on the real day one. And not the fake 3 days early BS. If anybody is that dumb or has that much FOMO, they need to have an extra $30 taken from them. This is a NON ISSUE!

Yeah why did the article and OP lie like that? This happens on Xbox too. Odd......
