Quantum Break PC has no "Quit" option on Menu. Gotta Alt-F4.

Since UWP ONLY run on Windows 10 devices, it is a Windows 10 feature. It is also a forced feature if you plan on playing any Microsoft game on PC. It's very much a Windows 10 issue.

Not exactly, UWP apps run on Windows 8/8.1 as well. This one in particular requires Windows 10 because of DX12.

But the shortcomings of UWP are problems with the app platform, it's not the fault of the operating system itself.

If we are being technical, Apps on Windows 8 were using Windows Runtime 8. It was similar to what UWP is, but very different as well. Windows 8 and Windows 10 apps are not the same.

Yes. Add game to steam and launch from big picture mode. This "no quit button" thing is a big issue for my setup since i have pc in another room and its connected to tv via long hdmi cable. When i want to play on big screen i just turn on av receiver then click guide button on controller to launch big picture mode and that's it. I have a wireless keyboard laying on a couch near tv for emergency cases but i should not have to use it....

Interesting, can you stream to a link windows games that have been added in this way? Also how do you add it if there is no exe? Thanks!

P.S. I run VNC on my pc so when using my link if anything crashes I have a way to access the PC from a different room (via screen sharing from my macbook). Not ideal but better than getting up (that sounds ridiculous, how lazy have we got!)

Standard UI interfaces in games have a quit button. No further comment.

Am I just supposed to pretend it doesn't exist or something? The X is about as standard as it gets on user interfaces.

And if you're using a gamepad from your sofa...?

How would you start the game from your sofa...?

I guess you just sit there and die slowly with no recourse, unable to start up the game to even consider exiting.

Me personally, someone on gaf was kind enough to point me to Controller Companion on Steam and that is kind of great, very useful for couch gaming when I'm playing things that aren't on Steam, like Origin, Uplay or GOG... Outside of that, I have a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse always hooked up when I am playing my PC shit on my TV.

I'm not saying it's not an issue, I just don't understand how the hell people are blowing this out of proportion.

Quit option is there, just not where people unfamiliar with a modern Windows GUI expect it to be. Right?

Explained already in this thread by myself and other people who use different methods.

I can't believe this is even a debate. There should be a quit option in the main menu just like every other game on the platform. This is a new low for the defence force.

I see frame drops from that Titan X rig streamer.. It seems like the rig is just brute forcing the game to keep a stable 60fps, but the game itself is unoptimized to keep it steady..

Come the hell on with this defense force BS, you asked me a question and I answered.

And if you're using a gamepad from your sofa...?

You literally asked me how I would do it from my sofa, which I play 100% of my PC games from.

I'm not debating whether it should be an option or not, that's some strawman stuff you're treading on there that wasn't said by me.

Had to write the tool myself cuz didn't like other methods - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=199532642&postcount=252

Working on a updated version atm and looks like i will have to map Alt+F4 to gamepad to fix this if they don't patch this quickly( they probably wont since there is QA for patches on windows store............ )

Yes, very lazy lol. But i am all about that console comfort but with eye candy.

You sir are a gent, thank you!

Just started a few games in steam. And, whoa no X button appears in the corner. Guess all other games that aren´t on the Windows store have subpar UI.

Quit buttons are as standard as it gets with games. No excuse to be had here.

I should have made it clear, the bottom line of my post wasn't directed at you specifically, more at the thread in general.

Just wanted to pop into this thread to say thanks for the mention, as I too had no idea this program existed. I use a tiny kb+trackpad device that sits on the coffee table to launch stuff, but this sounds like it could eliminate the need for it. At the very least it'll come in handy for those Japanese ports that leave the mouse cursor on-screen despite having a controller connected.

EDIT: D'oh spoke too soon. After reading some reviews it looks like it disables itself once a game is launched/goes full-screen. Makes sense I guess.

Sub-30fps on Low settings with a GTX 980? I don't believe him.

I like how streamers are running a bunch of apps like Skype vid/audio chat, Twitter, Xsplit, live game upload streaming/compression, titling, voice recording etc but hey I'm not getting a rock solid 12000fps from one guy angrily tweeting so the whole platform is a PR stab in the back.

Fuck me.

So the game could have poor optimisation but at least let the wild reach a consensus first before dog shit piling.

3 year old AMD CPU, CPU caped.

Even so the req of the game are bit ridiculous. The lack of quit and the requirements point to a hasty port. Perhaps panic about recouping the long long dev costs set in when XB1 exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider failed to chart despite being a great game.

I don't see a situation where any dev thinks that putting a game on the Windows Store will recoup much at all.

Edit: Putting a bad port on the Windows 10 store right now is probably more bad publicity than a few sales are worth.

Wow, this might come in handy.

Thank you.

This is DX12 only game designed to run on 8 core Jaguar from the beginning.

It should work much better than average on FX
And apparently old AMD CPU have a huge benefit from DX12

No reason to panic yet but its kinda worrisome reports about performance so far.

It's probably not dev's making decisions but suits.

You sweet summer child.

Quantum break is Windows store exclusive. Which in itself isn´t a problem.

The problem is it´s a UWA (Universal Windows Application). It´s an App. On a Desktop PC. It offers literally no adventages to Win32, only disadvantages, such as, deciding where to install the app exactly (only Drive decision), no modding, no access to files as you would have now etc.

Basically MS has a God complex and thinks it can fuck with PC gamers.

LOL. Entitlement much?

Don't fucking buy it. Plain and simple. Talk with your wallet.

It's a good thing the game is available for people that own a PC that don't give a shite about UWA pros or cons as long as the game runs well on their hardware.

No PC performance thread yet?

I am excited to play this. I can deal with no quit option but was always going to hold out to see if this is another problematic Microsoft launch.

1. lmao, entitlement. Wanting something that is industry standard is too much now.

2. I´m not fucking buying it.

With the XBO controller, you can press BACK+MENU to Enable/Disable.

UWP reminds me of the change from DOS to Windows.
No need to temper with Config and Autoexec, as everything was ready to run on Windows, just with a simple installation.

Now Windows is the new DOS and UWP is the new Windows 95

Suits only care about money. I seriously wonder if a Windows Store only release will even make back the money it costs to port such a large AAA game.

It's not just the game; it's also pushing the store. If they can onboard some of the XB1 customers onto the w10 store by exchanging some XB1 sales for W10 sales it probably serves their bigger business goals. As well with Rise of the Tomb Raider not charting, any argument against it would wither.

Bigger picture, the w10 team may have more influence than the XB team as this w10 store/XB stuff won't be good for XBs long term health.

I guess this is Remedys way of doing the right thing and deliberately ruining their port so that PC games can exist in a free and open future. Must be hard, but doing the right thing almost always is.

That can't be right.
Unless he's trying to play at 4k or higher, there'd be no reason it'd chug along at sub-30 on a 980. If that's the case, that's even worse than Arkham Knight.

Bear in mind that weird exceptions always exist in PC gaming and something completely unrelated to the actual game can cripple certain titles much worse than others.

Any other impressions from GAF? I mean I think a lot of us are waiting for PC codes from the XBO preorder. I hope it's not an unoptimized nightmare as its been described. Loving the game thus far!

No, but stating Microsoft is fucking with someone by putting out a product on their platform that they wouldn't have given to PC gamers anyway if not for the fact that they are pushing their non-industry standard platform seems like your expectations are a little off.

Not buying it is smart. It's not for you.

Will try it later on my 8350 & 290x with the Quantum break optimised drivers that released yesterday.

Not sounding to hopeful at this point.

Except Sam Lake said it would come even before any UWA games were out, so it was ALWAYS in the cards. MS literally just allowed Remedy to port it sooner, to their horrible store. So I see why people would get mad over it, especially from a dev like Remedy.

But this isn't just a Microsoft issue... There's plenty of new steam games where you click launch from big picture and then a pop up box where you need to use a mouse for radial buttons appears. Street Fighter 5 being the most recent and stupid one of the bunch,

People are complaining that UWP removes the ability for .dll injection etc but then lament it for having to move a mouse to the upper corner.

Just always needing something to complain about

I feel like your argument is that we should be kissing Microsoft's feet for allowing us to get a port that we wouldn't have had otherwise, regardless of whether it's even playable. Maybe I'm old school, but I would prefer to not get a port than to waste my money on ports like Arkham Knight, Rise of the Tomb Raider, etc.

My expectations are for the PC platform to at least stay as it is, if not improve. Nothing that the UWP is doing applies to both points. Therefore they´re fucking with the PC platform. I don´t even care about their games, what i care about is the possible (shitty) future of the platform, thanks to MS.

If it means not getting those games at all, or getting them in the form that we´re getting them now, i´d rather not have them.

It's more along the lines of saying we shouldn't expect any better out of MS. KI was a nice surprise though.

It's almost like people didn't watch the SteamOS launch. SteamOS is really great, however, it was plagued with ports like Saints Row IV and Shadow of Mordor that ran like garbage on linux/steamos. Because of this, pretty much everybody destroyed SteamOS in reviews and it is now considered a bad platform to game on. Windows Store could ruin the reputation of PC gaming, forcing console gamers to never even give it a chance.
