Question for those who have played Resident Evil 5 solo

The two times I have played through this game and it's DLC, I did so with a friend and we had a blast. I never actually played this game's campaign solo, but I'm looking to play this game again soon and give it a try.

A lot of time has passed, and I'm sure some here have either mastered or modded the game to their liking. So I wanted to know, what was your best strategy or mod to go about doing this?

For strategy, was it route and spawn memorization? Item placement memorization?

What was the best way to 'game' the second character's AI to do what you needed it to do, when you needed?

For modders,
which mods were your favorite solo-friendly mods to use? I've seen a few that tweak numbers, like making the secondary character invincible or have infinite ammo. Did you add some sort of RE4 Wii-esque aiming mod?

Lastly did anyone here try the "Evolution - SOLO" mod or "Alone in Africa" mod that removes the second character entirely? Were they the most optimal solution?

Any answers or advice are welcome.

The AI has really good aim so give them a handgun with decent power and a lot of ammo and they'll be fine.

Keep the high powered stuff for yourself.

Give her the sniper rifle and play it as you would RE 4, but use her to carry extra stuff, not much more to it than that.
I've heard these complaints about the secondary character AI:

1) They waste ammo quite a bit
2) They prefer the pistol too much
3) Their positioning is awful during critical moments in combat
4) They get grabbed a lot

I know that they have positives, like good aim, but I'm just trying to minimize the negatives/frustrations as much as humanly possible.

What difficulty do you plan on starting with? All of those common complaints are true but if you're on normal or below it's not a big deal.

Giving ai the sniper is a good bet. Stun rod isn't bad either. They do blow through pistol ammo but you should have more than enough for yourself basically at all times if you're doing the headshot melee repeat.

Great game. Very replayable. And a lot to play for.

Playing this game solo is a test in patience and self masochism. I platinumed the game on launch and some of it requires solo play if I recall. It sucked.

I have played it twice through in co op, and it shines there.

Veteran (Hard) mode would be preferred. Definitely not Professional...not without new game+ stats to help at least.

Same I played and finished this game solo once I never want to do it again. this game was made in co-op in mind and fucking HATED that.

Keep in mind any and all "tips" go out the window when Sheva decides to be a dumb bitch. I recall the dog section of the game being the worst.

It's been a long time since I played but she essentially will dump all ammo non stop, burn heals non stop, get in your way non stop, and stand in the worst places non stop.

It will make a 8-9/10 game feel like a 5/10 game. The AI really is that bad.

There is good reason why you can turn off friendly fire because she love to get in front of your shots.

You're swaying me towards the solo mods lol.

Honestly I've been waiting for Capcom to remake this game (and 6) to fix the messes in both, but I think they are either afraid to do so or maybe they might feel like they want to stop after Code Veronica. Regardless, I might not see a remake of this until like 2035 or something and that's a hopeful dream at this point.

If mods can unretard her do it.

It is not worth experiencing as is RE5 solo.

Platinumed Twice. Here's my tips:

1) Start the Game
2) Know that Chris comboing the fuck out of the giant boulder like its wesker's giant balls into the lava will never be topped by anything in RE.
3) Close the game after reading above sentence and realize both 1 and 3 are optional.

I take donations for 50 cents.

My only experience with this game is solo (all the way through) and it was awful. Had to lower the difficulty and even then it was still stupidly hard and no fun. And even then I have a hard time believing the game is much better when playing co-op. The level design just seems much worse then 4, the merchant kinda sucks, and the inventory system is a joke.

Just finish this game in normal mode if you must play it solo . What's the point torturing yourself with harder difficulty , there are so much more better games out there .

I finished the game solo on professional. On that difficulty (and likely veteran too), the enemies focus on the player. Given that, there were many times when I put Sheva on attack mode and she single-handedly cleared entire rooms. Other than that, keep an eye on the AI partner so you can help each other in the event of the dying state - and make sure the AI has some form of healing at all times. As for guns, it depends on the level - handguns are okay some of the time, but there's times when more firepower will be needed.

Thats my biggest issue, for me I love playing survival horror game on hardest difficulty but this game is fucking nightmare to play on harder difficulty because of that stupid AI.

Co-op is last thing I want out of my survival horror games.

this makes me want to Play this game again.
Last time i play this about 2 years ago.
I gave sheva SMG and sniper I think, somethimes combo between gun and sniper as well.
I'm not using Mod much here, but only costumes.

edit: I think I used sheva left cam mod and reshade to change the color tone as well

to be honest, and maybe unpopular opinion, I love this game more than other RE (please dont hate me :p )
I have lot of memories with this game in my first laptop in 2009

There are other mods that dont effect how capable she is, but will make you care less.
Which mods?

As others have said, co-op with a buddy turns the game into a fun experience worth playing, because so many enemies, levels, and bosses actually require both players to strategize with either taking aggro, or player placement, puzzles, or weapon type usage (since your inventory is so small). There are hints of genius behind the co-op experience but it's also the game's biggest weakness due to all of the complaints about the solo experience.

I presume it would be like attempting to play Special Ops from Call of Duty with just one player, or maybe Split Fiction/It Takes Two solo.

I beat the game many times. Give her just a Sniper and SMG. And set her to attack? I don't remember. The remaster AI was upgraded I think, making her slightly better. But with a sniper she'll take out enemies with pinpoint precision, even when moving on vehicles.

Campaign is quite easy, it holds back a lot.

Also use her as a mule.
