Galaxy S5.. dont go towards an IPhone, they are very closed systems and you can do much with them until you jailbreak it. To be fair i use a HTC ONE M8, i picked that instead of the samsung because it has a much better build quality. I work in a phone shop and trust me when i say Samsungs and IPhones are the most broken handsets people come back into the shop with. With the Samsung its always a battery issue where the battery expands and becomes very dangerous, and the IPhones are just flimsy and break with ease.

You probably see a lot of them as they're also the most popular phones around.

Went with the S5 because the HTC One wasn't waterproof and didn't have any waterproof case options.... I think I made a huge (pun intended) mistake. The S5 is gigantic... with the Lifeproof case it's even worse. This is near impossible to hold with one hand. I think the iPhone screen size is too small to navigate with, but I'd choose that over this behemoth. Ugh. Also this UI is god-awful, probably will warm up to it but with every minute the $35 restocking fee is looming closer and closer.

You could always install another launcher although that won't take away all of TouchWiz.

You didn't play with the phone in the store before buying?

I did but it was really hard to tell with the thing on the display stand, I had to rush too because the store was closing and the deal was gone after today.

Also everyone I talked to in the store said they would recommend the S5 over the 5s as well, I don't know. I made a stupid, rushed decision. If I do go with the 5s though, I'm really worried about the low battery life.

if you wanted small, powerful and waterproof - you should have picked xperia z1 compact

If you game on PC, I assume you like struggle, so get an Android.

If you game on consoles, like ease of use, fast response time and unmatched build quality, get an iPhone.

As baekshi said the Z1 Compact could've suited quite well if it was available for you.
I don't think either the Z1 or Z2 was available for me.

iPhone 5S. Great hardware and an amazing app ecosystem.
Is the battery life really as awful as it seems?

Edit: Actually my account is eligible for one free exchange, and the case is a free return for 14 days anyway

So GAF, now that I at least have a working phone I have a bit more time to think about this. Thank god. The HTC seems to be out though unless someone can provide proof that a waterproof case is coming.

Pity. The Z1 Compact would probably suit you quite well. Waterproof, good battery and it's not much bigger than the iPhone despite packing a 4.3" screen

I have read some users having problems with the glass cracking on it though.

Cracking through regular use? Because I would get a regular case too obviously that would go slightly over the edges of the screen.

I'm in a similar predictament. Lock button on my launch iPhone 4s suddenly stopped working. Thinking about 5s, S5 or One M8. Leaning towards the M8.

how about a fucking windows phone.
Brother has one, the UI is an eyesore to me.

Like I said, if the M8 was waterproof I'd get it in a heartbeat, but I've learned my lesson. I also work part-time as a lifeguard and while I never have my phone physically on me during my shifts, it's still at a pool complex most hours of the day.

In your case yeah S5 seems best. There's been some rumblings the next One will be waterproof like the S5 but that's next year.

Its staggering how much more you can do with the S5 over the iPhone.

NFC, IR Blaster, mountable storage, extendable storage, water proofing, USB 3.0, and shooting 4K video are all reasons why it is a no-brainer to me. The build quality is great too, no creaking like prior Galaxy phones.

Finally, Google Now is a certified game changer. The broadcasting of contextual information is awesome. Flight schedules, rental car info, places to eat, and even alerts about where you last parked your car are all wonderful features.

Its just a better, more durable phone. Perhaps it will change with the iPhone 6, but this comparison is not even close.

GS5 is water resistant

... just sayin'

Can I say that this is one of the coolest damn features of the thing? Took it on a kayaking trip last weekend, dove 15 feet into water while taking a selfie vid. Sure you couldn't see a damn thing from the footage but man if the thing doesn't still work perfectly. Only minor niggle is that the water messes with the headphone detection so underwater music playing is a no-go unless you get some kind of headphone jack cover/insert.

The IR blaster is neat too, though the built in samsung smart remote app leaves a bit to be desired in the button placement department.

Alright so if I was to change to the 5s in a few days, I just have two questions. Is it as responsive as the S5 and does it have the option to have Haptic Feedback/change the intensity of it? Thanks bros

I had an iPhone 5s since its launch in September, and recently just got a Galaxy s5 last months. Heres my list of pros and cons.

iPhone 5s Pros:

-Apple EcoSystem
-iMessage
-Everything just feels snappy and I never experienced delays in the software.
-The build quality of the device is second to none.

iPhone 5s Cons:

-Battery life was horrendous on it during usage. Standby time was god-like, but when I used it to browse the internet, the battery drained ridiculous amounts.
-screen was a little too small for my liking

S5 Pros:
-The battery life is great. I normally get about 5.5-6 hours of on screen time and don't have to worry about the device dying.
-The water-resistant design is nice. I actually dropped mine in a pool the second day I had it and no problems.
-The wireless charging cover (extra $30) is awesome. I just throw my phone down onto the charger and it starts charging. No worry about any cables.
-Screen is perfect for me. I have large hands, and I can still use the phone one handed.

S5 Cons:
-Software is sometimes slow, but not anything that will break my experience with the device, yet it is noticeable at times.
-Some people don't like the plastic design (I don't have a problem with it at all).

Either one you choose (or even the m8), all are great phones.

About the wireless charging cover; Do you just not use a regular case at all? Or do you just switch them out? Because I already bought one and am using it currently to protect the phone itself if - more like when - I drop it. Also, I'm pretty sure the iPhone has something similar.

Well its not really a cover, just a replacement back piece. It makes the phone a couple mm thicker, but in my opinion that actually makes it a little easier to hold.

And yeah, I don't use a case on my phones at all lol. The 5s does have qi charger cases, but honestly they're all third party and might not work too well (and the ones Ive seen are ugly). With the replacement s5 back, you can't even tell that its different.

Heresy, as much as I dislike cases for the added bulkiness, I can't imagine not using one.

Also, have I been rused? HTC One M8 Water Test. If this is actually legit I'll switch out the S5 for the M8 (and get a thinner case) in a heartbeat.

Why would you need a Lifeproof case for the S5? It's already water resistant and dustproof.

Just get a smaller TPU case for the occasional drop. Maybe a glass screen protector if you're really paranoid.

And I gotta say, I have both the S5 and the M8, and I honestly prefer the S5. The camera is leaps and bounds better, I like OLED screens over LCD, and the Galaxy S5 is way easier to hold on to. The metal M8 is a slippery sucker. Battery life also seems a bit better on the S5.

There are hundreds of YouTube videos for this, in the end it depends on you, for me personally the iPhone 5s is way too small to comfortably use, the S5 is very customizable but has a higher learning curve. What specifically do YOU want in a phone.

Why did you get a Lifeproof if it's already waterproof? Or are you wanting protection from drops as well?

Just get a slim case, since the waterproofness is handled by the phone itself.

Yeah I realized that was a mistake, luckily I can return that for free. I'll just get a slim case to protect it from drops, that will help reduce the bulkiness too which is currently my biggest issue with it. Although the small screen option is pretty neat.
