Racial Differences in Bluetooth Cellphone Headset usage?

One thing I've been noticing recently is that the only people I ever see wearing bluetooth headsets for their cell phones are black people. Has anyone else observed this trend? If so, does anyone have any possible explanations for this trend? I don't really have any ideas, and it's been making me curious.

WAT?! Is this a joke thread? Have you ever seen a white business man in an airport?

It is a trend. Other than guys in Business attire(both white and black) i only see black men with Bluetooth headsets. Its one of those things i dont ever mention, because its an odd thing to mention.

I haven't noticed. In fact, I don't see many people wear these headsets like they did in 07-08.

I almost always see white dudes talking on their bluetooths while grocery shopping.

This. Plus, it's usually the same guy that has his phone clasped to his belt.

Isn't it required paraphernalia for a Starfleet communications officer? Maybe that's what you're seeing.

Isn't it funny how seemingly talking to oneself has become acceptable in society?

This is a real phenomenon. Just do a google search. Anyway, I'm pretty sure bluetooth mobile headsets have become a status symbol in certain communities. The logic is that you must be a VIP or something if people need to constantly get in contact with you to the point that you have to wear a phone receiver in your ear.

Why?

I Googled it and didn't find anything relevant research that's been done on this topic yet.

Yes, and in my experience, they generally hold their cell phones up to their ears instead of using a headset.

white people be all

OH SHI--

You got me. I'm black. I use a Bluetooth headset. Why? Because the law states that a hands free device is required for cell phone use in the car. So that's what I do.

It's also nice to just have my bluetooth on when taking a call at home instead of holding a hot iphone against my face and getting my face smudge all over the screen.

I don't wear it as some sort of status symbol. But there have definitely been times when I'm doing errands and talking on the phone via bluetooh. Don't worry, I always put the call on hold when interacting with the cashier as to not be THAT guy.

With that said, I've seen PLENTY of white people on headsets. So, I dunno. I think this is more of a case of "selective" noticing.

Took my post.

When I see someone using a Bluetooth headset they are typically talking way louder than they should with no regard for their surroundings and I immediately think they are tool bags, regardless of their color. This can actually apply to nearly all cell phone use in public.

Why do people hold their phone in front of them and talk into it?

Not only is the premise of this thread wrong (seriously, there´s so many white business men that use those), but also: WHY would you think this is relevant to your life? What does it matter? Don´t worry, I assume it was a question born out of innocent curiosity, but still, there will always be idiots to expand it into true racism. And that sucks. Black people, white people, all the same.

I used to work at Blockbuster and this woman (yeah, she was black) would come in with her bluetooth on and talk while she was running around the store. It was always a hassel at the checkout because I never knew when she was talking to me. Annoyed the hell out of me!

It is my experience as well

and not by any means scientific proof the following occurred:

Googled "Black People and Bluetooth" yields 9,150,000 results
Googled "White people and Bluetooth" yields 2,350,000

Hoping to get some Point of Sale data or registration data but couldn't find some.

But you haven't been noticing the black people without them.

Similar to those nuts who see 11:11 everywhere.

Anytime I see someone with a bluetooth, they look like a jackass. More black people than white, but I see plenty of white people. They're usually way older.

Black people don't want to hold the phone with greasy hands.

From the fried chicken!

That doesn't follow. I said the people I've seen wearing bluetooth headsets tend to be black, not that most black people I see wear bluetooth headsets. There's a difference.

I dont know how im supposed to explain it? I see more black people using bluetooth than whites.... um...ok

Unless you're driving, take the stupid thing off your head. My old manager wore one while walking around the office. What a tool.

Maybe this is trend outside of NY. Mostly like the business looking people of all races I see with headsets.

Also never knew there was blacklash against people that used headsets. Why would that bother anyone?

In NYC, I always only saw business people wearing them... or white males... in fact, when I wore mine (and I only did this when actually talking), people would always look at me funny.. a good friend of mine had one and never used it, even in his car! at the risk of getting a ticket!!!

bluetooth headsets have a stigma to them.

in fact, especially in the hood, bluetooth headsets are looked down on...

at least in NYC...

in southern GA, i only see middle aged moms using them... and even then, it's rare.

Blacks tend not to be as self conscious as whites, thankfully because whites seem to ask a lot of questions about us and spend half their time obsessing over us, we'd end up be a bunch of neurotics if we gave a shit. More Blacks probably use them because we aren't so bothered by what people think of us, whereas whites are probably more worried about what other people think of them.

To sum up more blacks use them because we don't give a shit.
