Crystal Bearers is an enormous piece of shit, so hopefully that loses. Or wins, I guess.
It was simple and fun. Looked really nice too.Crystal Bearers is an enormous piece of shit, so hopefully that loses. Or wins, I guess.
Heads up: only one day left to vote on RetroActive. The link is above. Nominees (all Wii games) are:
PoP: Forgotten Sands
Pandora's Tower
Wii Sports Resort
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers
This should be a fun edition no matter what wins, so I'd like to see good participation from the GAF crew!
Voting is over, and Pandora's Tower won. The Crystal Bearers came in second place and will return in a future Second Chance poll.
just buy it, it maybe not the best game ever, but it's certainly better than the last story.Pandora's Tower was the only project rainfall game I didn't pick up so I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. I remember James talking about it a lot back in the day... it sounds super weird.
Episode 345: Conditional Decisioning said:We have another substitute this week (for Jon this time), and it happens to be the debut of Kim Keller on RFN. She was great at E3 and brings a lot of interesting thoughts to this episode as well, including one of the greatest New Business surprises in a long time. But we start with Jonny's recent exploits in the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, plus the deliciously snack-sized Rogue Legacy on PC. Guillaume revisits Super Metroid on Wii U Virtual Console, an RFN favorite (for most of us) that he hasn't really discussed before now. Kim finds herself addicted to competitive Injustice: Gods Among Us, but her lasting contribution to this podcast is surely a review for Undead Bowling. It's a rated-M bowling game. IT'S A RATED-M BOWLING GAME. And, shockingly, it may also be a pretty good game outside of the fully committed aesthetic and bizarro premise. James has to follow that hammer-drop with a lamentation over Breath of Fire 6, as well as his bemused, if not disturbed, impressions of Puzzle & Dragons for iOS.
After a particularly rowdy Now Playing break, we return for a feature segment looking at our most anticipated Wii U releases for the rest of 2013. These are definitely personal picks, with each panelist choosing a couple of titles based on individual preference, so don't be surprised if we pass over your own future favorite. Still, it's nice to spend half an hour being mostly positive about Wii U games, other than that stretch where James gets real, and maybe even pessimistic, about Mario (even though he picked it).
Big ups to Kim for filling in this week! We should have the fearsome foursome back together for you next time, where we'll catch up on Listener Mail. You can make that even better by sending in your own question or comment for the show! Also, in case you hadn't heard, Pandora's Tower won the RetroActive poll... so pick up your copy soon and play along with us! The discussion has already started in that official RetroActive #28 forum thread.
Kim held her own pretty well.
There really wasn't much of merit at the latest ND to discuss, I don't blame the crew for not mentioning it much.
Absolutely, the Nintendo Direct was pretty lame anyway. We did record 346 after the Direct, but it only came up in passing, since there wasn't much big news. James does give a nod to Layton vs Wright getting a Western release.
I hope you'll consider discussion of brand new Wii U games, excellent Listener Mail, and ZORK to be an adequate trade-off. ;-)

Episode 346: In These Days of Graphics said:It hasn't been easy lately, but we pulled together the entire RFN crew to mark the special occasion of a Wii U game launching. It's Pikmin 3, of course, but New Business also covers the brand new Cloudberry Kingdom, the potentially upcoming Shadow of the Eternals, Sakura Samurai, a handheld Shining Force, and... Zork? Yeah, Zork. Deal with it.
Listener Mail has been streaming in lately, and we sample the batch with your questions about the future of Endless Ocean, Miyamoto's new franchise, the quality of Wii U's virtual console, and the unobtainable classics we'd like to return. Please keep feeding that mailbag because it makes this show what it is!
We probably won't have a normal RFN next week, but don't forget to play Pandora's Tower if you want to follow along with RetroActive, and do hit up that forum thread!
Good to hear some talk about Endless Ocean again. I really liked Blue World and hope they do make a Wii U Endless Ocean.
RFN Off-Topic: 2013 NFL Preview said:NOTE: There is no video game discussion on this week's episode. Since both Jonny and Guillaume were out this week, James, Greg, and Jon decided to indulge themselves and take the opportunity to record an NFL "sportscast". If you have no interest in NFL football, you can look forward to next week's episode when our regular content will resume.
With both Jonny and Guillaume taking the week off, we could have opted to forego having a show this week. But that's just not our style. Instead, the rest of the crew was able to entice Greg Leahy to return for a one-night-only engagement. The only topic that could draw the king out of his self-imposed exile? NFL football, of course.
In this episode we break down each division, giving our thoughts on each team and our picks for division winners. We then predict wild card teams, conference champions, and the winner of the Super Bowl.
Do you agree with our picks? Do you think we know what we're talking about? Do you even care? Find out in this rollicking roller-coaster ride of pigskin prognostication.
Just don't say we didn't warn you. Please understand.
This podcast was edited by Greg Leahy.
Welcome to this special episode of Connectivity, and boy what an episode it is. Last week, our own Daan Koopman organized ten separate interviews with indie developers currently working on games for both the 3DS and Wii U eShops. In each interview, Daan discusses those upcoming games as well the experiences of developing for Nintendo's digital platforms. The entire thing clocks in at just over four hours long, so below you'll find a handy tracklist with the studio and their current game so you can seek out any particular interviews that interest you first. If you have any questions for Daan, be sure to post them below. Enjoy!
1) 00:00:00 Daan's Introduction
2) 00:11:28 Henchmen Studios - Monkey Pirates
3) 00:31:22 Ludosity - Ittle Dew
4) 00:57:41 Nnooo and 3 Sprockets - Cubemen 2
5) 01:29:49 The Game Bakers - Squids Odyssey
6) 01:57:48 Rain Games - Teslagrad
7) 02:25:34 BeautiFun Games - Nihilumbra
8) 02:56:51 Paladin Studios - Momonga Pinball Adventures
9) 03:23:36 Teku Studios - Candle
10) 03:42:49 SnowCastle Games - Festival of Magic
11) 04:07:42 Nyamyam - Tengami
Thanks for posting this, a nearly five hour podcast with interviews from indie studios seems right up my alley.
Should we split that off into its own thread?
I'm so torn.
On the one hand I literally know nothing about the NFL and don't care about it, on the other hand it's a 3 hour podcast with Greg back.
Crystal Bearers is an enormous piece of shit, so hopefully that loses. Or wins, I guess.
Welcome to episode 99 of Connectivity! Before the big 100, we have one more great show for you.
Kicking things off, Daan and Alex talk about the Japan-only Darumeshi Sports Shop, a Nintendo published eShop sports game. Daan has invested a good amount of time into the title, and talks about the various modes as well as the chances that the quirky game might cross over to the U.S.
After that, Alex, Josh, and Danny review the surprising amount of Pokémon news to come out this week, including the new show as well as the secret Wii U game. Danny even teases his impressions from playing the demo, before saying that he is saving the good stuff for the next Famicast. He is so Hollywood like that.
Closing out the show, Zack, the other Zach, and Andrew discuss DuckTales Remastered. The trio go over how the game compares to the original and whether or not nostalgia plays a role in their enjoyment of it. Plus, Zack makes us all feel really old. Like usual.
As always, you can click here to send us your listener mail. How about some birthday cards for the big 100 next week? We'll be sure to read any on the show. Oh, and if you haven't already, make sure you check out Daan's awesome eShop interview podcast. Thanks for the first 99. We'll see you with next week's special show.
Episode 347: Aggressive Drilling said:Hopefully you enjoyed the surprise NFL preview last week, but either way, RFN is back to almost-normal and on track for our upcoming milestone and even a fourth-annual telethon down the road. In this episode, we do unfortunately lack Jon but have an extremely capable substitute in Curtis Bonds, one of our most effusive new staff writers. Look out for his next live gaming stream at the NWR Twitch channel.
New Business could have gone for hours with two week's worth of game catch-up, but we focused on big hitters like DuckTales Remastered, Mass Effect 3: Special Edition, Kirby's Dreamland 2, Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV, Steamworld Dig, and Mario Golf (GBC).
Listener Mail is bulging with great questions, so much that we never seem to catch up on all the ones we'd like to discuss on the show. This week's batch covers Wii U curiosity Spin the Bottle, the best way to introduce young children to classic games, and the nitty-gritty details of putting GameCube on the Wii U Virtual Console. Continue the email onslaught!
Lastly, we ask you to please continue playing Pandora's Tower and discussing that game in its special RetroActive forum thread -- we'll be pulling quotes for the podcast feature in just a couple more weeks! There are lots of great deals on the game right now, and it's definitely not too late to join the conversation.
I can only imagine James' reaction to the 2DS.
Presumably, Nintendo's market data showed them that they were losing the bottom end of tr market and that the 2DS was a reaction to that. Or maybe this was the plan all along.
It's baffling and I expect complete befuddlement from the guys this week.
