Is the legend that is Deamer going on tour with them again?

The "point" of lists is to make discourse quicker and easier (but obviously less meaningful)

It was meant more tongue-in-cheek, but okay. I don't think lists are discourse, they're more for whoever posted them than actually promoting any kind of decent discussion. Then again, talking about the pros and cons of posting lists isn't much better ;)

The live version of Ful Stop sounded really heavy with its beat. I was really looking forward to hearing that or Identikit which they played the show immediately preceding mine, but they played Staircase instead so no complaints!

Heheh!

From the videos of Ful Stop I've seen it does sound heavier, but when the second beat comes in (the one with the snare rim), it seems to dial the 'propulsion' back a bit. Might be I can't hear the bass drum or whatever usually drives it because of the audio quality. I dunno, it seems more stop/start than the recorded version.

Deamer is confirmed to be playing with Radiohead during this tour.

This is the best version of Ful Stop imo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qau0irqY3GU

You see, that's what I'm talking about. Like, it's good, but in terms of percussion I much prefer the simpler motorik drumming that the studio version has. That second beat on the live video pulls the whole thing back. Studio version just drives, you know?

That's awesome.

I dunno, I feel the second set of drums add to the beat and make it more propulsive. Different strokes and all that.

A more interesting list to me would be an "eras" list -- one that takes into account their output around a general time, which would boost TKOL up, as the b-sides and "From the Basement" session were great.

I don't think anyone needs to include Pablo Honey on any lists any more, either. It's always last. It wasn't as good as their later stuff. Everyone gets it.

Radiohead eras ranked:

1. OK Computer era - B-Sides such as "A Reminder," "Lull," "Melatonin," "Meeting in the Aisle," the legendary performance at Glastonbury '97, as well as the chilling and intimate documentary "Meeting People is Easy..." And that's all besides the amazing album itself, which enjoys a 10.0 on Pitchfork, so many "best album awards" it's insane, and was zeitgeist-shifting in the rock music world. The album that started the "modern Radiohead" era and when they finally got to reintroduce themselves as something beyond the "Creep" band.

2. Kid A / Amnesiac era - Their shift into more electronic-infused soundscapes and towards more chilly, down-tempo music was incredibly fertile, with two official albums issued and a full third album's worth of incredible b-sides like "Worrywort," "Fog," and "Cuttooth." And the great live album, "I Might Be Wrong," which still has (as far as I'm concerned) the best version of Idioteque they ever did. Live shows in this era have some of their best setlists and energy levels, and Kid A was again a hallmark in rock music history, as well as the album that drew the worst sentence ever written about music out of Pitchfork writer Brent DiCrescenzo: "The experience and emotions tied to listening to Kid A are like witnessing the stillborn birth of a child while simultaneously having the opportunity to see her play in the afterlife on Imax."

3. In Rainbows era - Most notable for the interesting way it was self-released, as well as capturing the sound of Radiohead returning to excellent songwriting (perhaps after over-indulging themselves with electronic experimentation), In Rainbows was a bit of an instant classic, as the entire internet was able to hear it for free if they wished, and the music was so great. The deluxe edition's second disc was uneven but had some great moments such as "4 Minute Warning" and "Up on the Ladder," and the From the Basement session was untouchable, in particular the jaw dropping perfomance of "Nude."

4. A Moon Shaped Pool era - This is where this album lies for me right now. It's too early to say how it's all going to play out, but Radiohead have delivered a gorgeous album that and shown yet another growth in their sound -- one that combines their love for atmospheric "rock" songs, electronic elements, and the new twist: Jonny Greenwood's growing and singularly unique voice as an orchestral composer. Once again bringing the incredible second drummer from Portishead to fill out the sound in live shows, and booking fewer of them (ostensibly to bring an orchestral accompanyment to realize the sound of the new songs), it seems all but assured that the setlists they are about to perform will draw from one of the best catalogs of music ever produced, and perform newly released music that virtually no other band is capable of realizing.

5. The King of Limbs era - When you add up the excellent non-album material such as "Supercollider" and "Staircase," an excellent tour that featured Portishead's drummer adding wonderful new textures to their live soundscape and amazing setlists, and a From the Basement session that showed Radiohead rounding out the perhaps overly-spare sound of the namesake album's recordings, it wasn't all bad in the TKOL era. It all hinged on an album that couldn't help being a bit disappointing, after the long wait. But the music was still often transcendent, especially if you upgrade your mixtapes/playlists from this period to feature the far more realized From the Basement version of "Bloom," which I think was the best clue as to what Radiohead was hoping this era would sound like: a jangly, jazzy, and soulful affair with driving electronic rhythm accompaniment.

6. HTTT era
7. Bends era

I take it we dont know what the two bonus tracks are that are included in the deluxe version?

Some were speculating when the deluxe edition was announced alongside the launch of the album that Spectre was one of them.

But considering that's getting a standalone vinyl release with Burn the Witch, not so sure anymore.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought a pair of MSG tickets off Stubhub. I know there's a good chance prices might come down... but the album is out (which sent prices back up again after they had started falling) and the tour is starting soon, so I assumed there's a good chance they might not come down much at all, too. And not living in NY, I can't exactly wait til the day of the show or just before it to make the trip down.

Fuck scalpers...but you know, Radiohead is my favorite band, I've never seen them, and there are only going to be so many opportunities left to see them. So if this is the only way to get tickets, with no guarantee that demand will drop off in the next 2 months, so be it.

My favorite tracks are still:

Burn the Witch
Decks Dark
Ful Stop

That said, Identikit is really fun to listen to and Glass Eyes is just beautiful.

I just like how this album has such a "fresh" and "new" sound. As much as I like music through the eras, it's nice to hear something come out that really feels like it's from 2016, even if it's clearly inspired. That's what's great about Radiohead I guess; they know how to keep it a bit modern.

Another interesting thing about this album is how it seems very polished, calculated, and electronic in parts, but also really organic in others, and combines the two really well. The whole package is just really well put together.

Been listening to KoL, it's growing on me. I don't see why people call this a disappointing album, starting to love it.

I also made that b side playlist on spotify and there are so many good ones from The Bends era. Maquiladora, Killer Cars, Talk Show Host, Banana co, India Rubber... All great stuff.

Then have the people who bought 2nd hand tickets been straight up robbed?
If they're buying on StubHub you can get a refund. But if you're buying them off a reseller without some kind of policy like that in place...then yeah, basically.

That, or they arrange to meet with the reseller at the venue, who leads them into the show and then leaves or something.

I don't know. The majority of users overrate it from what I see, but I guess it's all just down to where you sit in the first place.

To me, it lacks the cohesion & moment to moment brilliance of Kid A, and the track by track powerhouse of records like In Rainbows and even HttT - If I'm picking great Radiohead songs, I'm getting more from The Bends, OKC, Kid A, HttT, In Rainbows, AMPS, and potentially TKOL (depending on my mood).

If I am in a very specific mood, Amnesiac is amazing. If I'm not in that mood, it's their worst album for me. No other album is really like this.

Ill be seeing them saturday in amsterdam. Hype!!

They tour with an orcestra already or no?

Judging the leaked pics of the stage set-up it's not likely. Maybe a few strings but certainly not a whole orchestra. And well considering the venues they play it wasn't very likely anyways.

OMG OMG just bought a ticket for tonight's show !!!!!

I'm so happy! Saw a twitter post posted 30 minutes before that they had 20 tickets available, immediately checked for tickets a couple of times but it was sold out already, then 5 minutes later after getting something to eat I check again and I get the message that I had a ticket!!

hnnnnnng any gaffers going to tonights(?) show

I think Daydreaming is still my favorite song on the album. Definitely the one that gets me every damn time.

Reminds me of how Portishead's The Rip grew on me

While we're here

Radiohead - The Rip (Portishead Cover)

Loving the new album. Can't pick any favourite song, as bits of most of them get stuck in my head at different points in the day. Lyrically I find Identikit annoying but the guitar work is awesome and that makes up for it.

I hadn't had the time to really sit down with my headphones on and go through the album until last night. Such a better experience with the headphones on. This album is really growing on me. Probably in my top 4.
