I don’t buy into superstitions but damn if 13 isn’t an unlucky age for my cats.

First cat developed a mystery illness at 13, died just before turning 15. Second cat died at 13 after fighting inflammatory bowel disease for 3 years and it ultimately turning into lymphoma. Current cat is one month into 13 and I’ve had to take her to the vet twice in the last week over loss of appetite and pain along the spine and base of tail.

Two day later edit: In case anyone wonders or cares, my cat has bacterial dermatitis (vet unsure how she contracted it) and hyperesthesia syndrome that she's likely had all her life but never showed significant outward symptoms of until now.

I like posting here but I'm terrified of arguing with people. I know I post things that maybe sort of controversial and then when I see that number up there by the little bell, I get really anxious.

Like I know a pet peeve of mine is how so many games nowadays have day one patches and if I mention that my bell goes off. It scares me. Maybe I should stop talking about that but I do like having a discussion nonetheless. I need to get over that fear.

you can turn off notifications for reactions/quotes of your posts. I completely ignore people who quote me so if someone quotes me I won't be notified. I go into a thread and say my thing then leave. If people wanna try argue with me then they can but I ain't gonna see it. Of course I am up for having a discussion...when I feel like it.

I used to get into arguments online but I don't have the energy for it anymore.

All I see are reactions from what I post or if someone mentions my username.

I don't like blocking people or ignoring them. So even with all my anxiety I still think it's fair I should see what they have to say.

I do have some on ignore.
I bet A LOT have me on ignore. Which I can understand.

When I'm quoted I'm picky.
Has to be a good question and I have to contain the will and or energy to reply.

At least that doesn't need to be "appreciated" while driving past at 80 like the Blue ring or the Bowfort Towers in Calgary

Public art is great, having it next to freeways is dumb.

I've noticed this "art" as well in the Netherlands.

Who the fuck thinks rusty metal looks good in any way. Unfuckingbelievable.

Really? RUSTY METAL?

i do put people on ignore but it's more of a "shut the fuck up" button and after a while i'll take everyone off it. if i'm really being a little bitch and have a lot then i'll take off people with a certain amount of posts/reaction score. usually the users with lowest amount of posts i'll take off first. if someone has a lot of posts then i'll keep them on it since they are more likely to cause shit again. if i take someone off and they do try get wide again then they are going back on the list

i only have 1 person on ignore at the moment because they kept responding to me and i just couldn't be arsed with them :messenger_grinning_smiling:

But in all seriousness,

For me it's how someone comes across in a certain way again and again and again.

And that minimizes the projection/interpretation factor I think. I might be wrong.

I'm easily irritated so just like IRL if i find someone annoying I don't or at least minimize interaction with said someone.

Couple clicks and voila.

And vice versa I'm highly sure that A LOT have me on ignore. I know I can come across as arrogant and or condescending (which is never personal and never my intention), make (bad) jokes. Post weird YouTube vids, etc.

But yeah, it is what it is.

I'm happy and in retrospect very grateful for those I've made e-buddies with through the Friday thread. You know who you are I hope.

It took some time but finally I feel at peace with sharing stuff and such.

Anyways.

I don't know if I'm your e-buddy but I think you're cool. One of the best people on here. Always appreciate seeing your posts!

one of my earphones broke and guess what? It's not the one for the ear i'm going deaf in!

i do have headphones which take too much space in my bag and they suck for listening in bed because I like laying on my side or on my belly.

I need small earphones for going out. Maybe I should finally try AirPods.

I only watch or listen to English content so I have to have headphones or earbuds. I prefer headphones but for stretching or laying in bed they're not suited. I bought the cheapest JBL speaker for stretching. YouTube, movies, music and gym is all headphones.

I've stuck my broken earphones on eBay. Basically gave them away for free but I don't care. Maybe someone can fix them or do something with them...maybe take the batteries out. Was only going to stick them in recycling for electrical.

I was about to buy airpods but I can't justify it when I have headphones I paid almost £400 for and hardly get used lol. They look huge on me so have never worn them outside but fuck it.

You guys won’t believe the day I had:

I work from home but I’m in a meeting and a silver fish bug runs across my desk. I reel back in shock and disgust and then reach for something to smash it with. When I look back it’s already gone. At this point I start looking around all over the desk to try to see where it went. Eventually I open the big deep desk opening (not really a drawer, more like a cover) and shine my phone light inside - they’re ALLLLL up in there. I shut it back and then answer the questions I’m being asked in my meeting, then as soon as it’s done I get some cleaning supplies and kill them all while cleaning it out. Now everything is fine again but I feel traumatized. I may go take a shower out of disgust. *shiver*

Dear veterinarian, It's difficult for me to take your recommendations for Frontline Plus and Hill's Science Diet seriously when I'm standing in an exam room that is plastered with medical marketing masquerading as infographics which have the Frontline product logo on them and there's a big Hill's Science Diet 2023 Calendar on the wall.

Youtube, man. I've never NOT found a tutorial on even super niche stuff I was looking for. Video game production, music production, washer/dryer repair for a model discontinued in 2005, you name it.

No reason not to check out if there's a "My First 2D Game" tutorial up your alley.

Had a quick look on Yotube and found some good info on various game engines. Gonna take a look at GameMaker and Godot - apparently, both have languages that are really good for beginners. Thanks! :messenger_grinning:

download game maker studio, follow some tutorials.
start by making a simple pong game, get used to GML, and then move on to make a simple platformer.

I made a few smaller games for fun back in the day. was active on the german game maker forum gm-d.de, really fun times.
I remember the first time I managed to make my character walk up slopes... sounds trivial, but my 18 year old brain took a long time to get it working lol.

that was still back in Game Maker 8.1, maybe even Game Maker 7

I did a little bit of research comparing Game Maker and Godot and I liked the look of Godot more. Seems you have to buy a license or something if you want to export/publish in Game Maker.

Followed some basic tutorials so far. Just trying to get familiar with the UI and then I'll dive into some proper tutorials.

Brother, you should take some time away from the alcohol.
I know, I've tried, but I can't do it. Been drunk every day since last Wednesday and bought another two boxes of beer today. I can't stop on my own and I won't get help so that's it. Until I can bring myself to get help then nothing is going to change.

That's not a pretty road to travel. You should take another look at your options.

I've been in the exact situation many times.

Started due to a traumatic event when I was 30yrs old. It's an easy accessible and instantly working coping mechanism ie self medicating substance.

It's also addicting, works momentarily and the negative side effects during and after outweighs far more the momentary "positive" effects.

But you know this already.

About, I can't remember, 2 (?) months ago I've been drinking "alchohol free" beers that contain a mere, and I quote: "less than 0.5% alcohol". It tastes great (Warsteiner) has 90 calories per bottle and yeah... Perhaps an option.

Just my 2 cents.

I was never really a big drinker until about 10 years ago and for some reason I started drinking all the time. Before that I did drink but only here and there. When I was at my lowest with depression I couldn't drink at all because I'd go fucking crazy. I could get very angry, violent, and would do stupid shit like self harm and even some suicide attempts.

Even though I started drinking a lot 10 years ago I feel like it's only been the last 3-4 years that I have got worse. Another thing happened and I was so close to killing myself. I always told myself I could stop drinking if I wanted so I thought I was just doing it for fun but yeah over the years I got addicted to it without really knowing it. Apart from the addiction I drink to deal with my anxiety. The other day at work I had a panic attack and starting all this twitching shit I do (kinda like motor ticks) and then had an argument with myself when I tried to go outside. The thought of going outside overwhelmed me and I was terrified of being around people. It's not like I don't go outside or socialise. I can hold a job, everyone thinks I smile/laugh too much (it's only because of my nerves), and I can have conversations with people. What really pissed me off was that I feel pathetic and realised how lonely/isolated I am. I feel like a failure but I don't see anyway out of it. I mean I know what I need to do but I can't bring myself to do it as it's so overwhelming.

Brother I mean this with the utmost sincerity and empathy—find a doctor and a therapist to help you through this. No one ever achieves great things without support.
