Rank the Brosnan Bond movies..

I've been watching them all through again (only Die Another Day left), and my opinions on them have slightly changed. I still think they are all pretty good movies (yep, ALL of them), so here ya go:

1) GoldenEye (possible bias slipping in due to GE 007 being my favorite game ever? Perhaps :) ) - classic characters, good pacing, etc.
2) Tomorrow Never Dies - Definitely underrated. Flowed really well. Wasn't a character I didn't like, even Carver and Stamper.
3) Die Another Day - Definitely enjoyable, mixes the Bond formula up a little bit, especially with him being captured for like a year in the beginning (or however long it was).
4) The World is not Enough - While enjoyable, the most boring of the bunch. Didn't like all the characters either, like Mr. Bullion, Denise Richards (and her scrumptious.. acting), etc. Was glad to have Valentin Zukovsky back though, but then the bastard DIES!

So there ya go.. how do you rank them? I can just picture it now:
1) THEY'RE ALL SHIT
2) YES ALL OF THEM
3) UH HUH EVERY ONE OF THEM
4) GEORGE LAZENBY RULES

1) Tomorrow Never Dies - Definitely underrated. Flowed really well. Wasn't a character I didn't like, even Carver and Stamper.
2) GoldenEye (possible bias slipping in due to GE 007 being my favorite game ever? Perhaps ) - classic characters, good pacing, etc.

The rest don't count.

Heh.

I wonder if there is anyone else on this board that has enjoyed all the current ones like I have? Then again, I'm a big Bond fan.. I even like the Roger Moore films.. ;)

I've seen all the Bond films but one or two (From Russia With Love and Moonraker are the last two I haven't seen, I *think*), and I've enjoyed them all, actually..

Agreed. Both License to Kill and The Living Daylights are both quite good.

Dalton didn't really "look" like Bond (in my mind), similar to how Moore didn't either. But he did a good job, I'll say that much.. :D

Hahahaha!

The villians aren't particularly memorable in Die Another Day or TWINE (Renard.. bleh.. he keeps getting stronger!! :)) for me. One of the reason they're my least favorites of the current Bond movies.. ;)

Neither of those films have villains as cool as ALEX TREVELYAN and XENIA ONATOPP. I just think GoldenEye really blended the best parts of the Bond series with this new, modern post-Cold War mentality and it worked brilliantly.

So what did Barbara Broccoli do with this winning formula? Continually strip away at it until we got some kind of weird Thunderball/Roger Moore/xXx hybrid in Die Another Day. It was really just silly.

I also think Brosnan should be replaced. His age was really starting to show in Die Another Day. We need some flesh blood. And Daniel Craig seems to old to me as well.

Please see Moonraker. It rocks. :D

From Russia With Love is the one he should be seeing - probably my favourite Bond movie. Moonraker is good too though.

IAWTP. I was thinking about this, and I think part of why the Bond movies haven't been as good lately is that they don't have the political backdrop of the Cold War to base things off of anymore. That's where most of the interesting villains and such came from. Now that we're in this war on terrorism thing, it's still too controversial to cast a Muslim terrorist as anything other than a one-dimensional lunatic. What's great about the great Bond villains is that they're more than one-dimensional, and you see their side of the story...

There's a lot of potential there for interesting stories, but they're too afraid to go for it.

Yeah sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. :p My favorite is Goldeneye, by far. Don't remember what any of the others were even like, so they probably weren't too good.

Die Another Day

Die Another Day was really long and boring.

1.) GoldenEye

.
.
.

2.) 1st half of Die Another Day
3.) The World Is Not Enough (mostly because of the spectacular opening)
4.) Tomorrow Never Dies
5.) 2nd half of Die Another Day

With Bond though I have to admit its hard for me to be overly critical. I've more or less enjoyed all of Brosnan's 007 flick's upon first viewing in the theater. It's only when I watch them on DVD that I start to see a lot of the flaws.

GoldenEye is actually a pretty well crafted movie overall though. The whole plot twist they put on it was cool (with the villain turning out to be Bond's ex-partner) and Xenia Onatopp has to be the craziest/kinkiest Bond girl ever.

And no, I'm not going to use spoiler tags on a movie that is almost ten years old.

I AM INVINCEEEEBLE!

Tomorrow Never Dies: Most concise of the Pierce Bond movies. Doesn't waste time.
Goldeneye: Good movie but the pacing is off and meanders quite a bit.
Die Another Day: Too Moonraker but more fun than...
World is not Enough: Dry as a mouthful of crackers

Tomorrow Never Dies is probably my favorite bond movie ever, closely followed by Golden Eye.

Although Die Another Day isnt that great of a Bond movie, the dude with the diamonds in his face is a cool villian, Miranda Frost is by FAR the hottest Bond girl ever, and the fencing scene I liked alot.

Goldeneye was the only one that was good. Well, the first half of Die Another Day was also pretty good, but the second half was pure crap.

GoldenEye
Die Another Day
Tomorrow Never Dies
The World Is Not Enough

(TND and TWINE are lower cause I've outplayed them. Then again I've seen GoldenEye countless times and I'm never bored with it, so that should say something)

I think the main problem with Die Another Day was Halle Berry. I dont hate her as an actress, but her character was probably one of the worst in the series ever, in addition ot having some stupid dialog. If they would have had a different character in that role, i dunno, the movie might have been a whole lot better because I actually like the plot. Everytime she said something or did anything I cringed.

Goldeneye rocks. Tomorrow Never Dies was competent. TWINE was shit on celluloid. I refuse to see Die Another Die.

One thing I really liked about Tomorrow Never Dies was that Michelle Yeoh kicked ass. She wasn't a dumbass chick, was far from helpless, and actually worked well as a secret agent (unlike Berry's horrible character).

Goldeneye was arguably, the best Bond movie sicne the Connery days. A true classic and one of the highest-rated action movies of all time.

Everything else was...mediocre in comparison.

Goldeneye was the best...specially since the great performance of Goddfrey John (Ourumov)...All the others were pretty crappy. Even worse than the Roger Moore ones ! And that is saying a LOT !!!!

Goldeneye > Tomorrow Never Dies >= The World Is Not Enough >>> The rest

Goldeneye is honestly my favourite Bond movie period (I've not watched most of the earlier ones, unfortunately, but I did enjoy the few I've seen quite a lot..but I dunno, I just liked Brosnan and Goldeneye more).

1) GoldenEye
2) The World Is Not Enough
3) Die Another Day
4) Tomorrow Never Dies

Diamonds are Forever actually is the best Bond movie ever. The two gay dudes=best Bond villians of all time.
i still remember when i saw diamonds are forever at around 14...
cuz i loved bond movies and had been watching them repeatedly all my life...
i mean, i saw the movie many times before, but only when i was 14 did i realize "OMG THOSE DUDES ARE GAY!!!"

:lol :lol :lol

I agree with that list although to me, TND and DAD are tied. I'm not a big fan of either one of them but they are pretty decent. The World is Not Enough is just awful though. Reminds me an awful lot of On Her Majesty's Secret Service: some important person's daughter is captured, a pussified Bond, skiing, awkward humor. Those two movies should be stricken from the Bond series.

First: Goldeneye (Famke Janssen; Tina Turner/Bono/Edge theme song; one of the best Bond screenplays; and the best Bond title sequence ever):

minigold1.jpg

Second: The World is Not Enough (I don't remember much of it except that Denise Richards was a crap Bond girl, but it didn't actually annoy me like DAD and TND)

distant third: Die Another Day (though the pre-title sequence for this is one of the best of all Bond movies, the rest is a letdown, especially coming from the director of Once Were Warriors and The Edge. Plus the terrible Madonna theme song.)

distant fourth: Tomorrow Never Dies, which may possibly be the worst Bond film.

GoldenEye is actually my second favorite Bond film, right after Goldfinger. But GoldenEye rocks, and the other Brosnan Bond movies suck.

Sigmund Freud, analyze THIS!

I didn't hate that song, but yeah, it's the worst of the four current Bond movies, I'll give ya that. Tina Turner's GoldenEye ROCKS!

Goldeneye had the unique characters, Natalya, locales, catch phrases (YUSS! I AM INVINCIBLE!--that phrase won me many laughs in elementary school), and the unmistakable badass James Bond feeling. Tomorrow Never Dies had an interesting villain, great gadgets, and a few good action scenes.

The other two sucked ass--and I liked Roger Moore's campy take on James Bond, so that's saying something.

Such as the car chase sequence? Except Bond's not using a car.. he's using a tank? :D It's awesome when he bursts through that wall right at the start of it..

^^That's a great movie moment right there. You know Bond's gonna use the tank, but you have no clue when. They have him off camera for long enough to make sure the viewer knows he's gonna pop up at an opportune time, and when he does: wow. Ouromov skids around the corner, then all of a sudden Bond barells through the huge wall in a tank, and the Bond theme replaces the silence. What a great movie; I need to watch it again.

I don't get the hate on Tomorrow Never Dies. It's a pretty darn good Bond flick. Slick production values, some great action sequences and a good villain to boot. It is such a visually striking Bond film too. I mean, it's no GoldenEye, but it's still pretty good.

Evenball

Jack Flack always escapes!
1. Tomorrow Never Dies
2. Die Another Day
3. Goldeneye
4. T.W.I.N.E.

IMO, while I like the action scenes in goldeneye, i felt the characters were either too weak or over the top. the last half hour is classic though. Also, goldeneye has TERRIBLE music.

TWINE = zzzzzzzzz..........

I can't really say which is the "best," but the worst is EASILY The World Is Not Enough. Pipelines and ice and...zzzZZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzzz...
