Rants/Raves after the PS5 conference

It was the worst conference of all 4 conferences so far, BY FAR imo. In fact it would of been a total trainwreck without Demon's Souls imo.
Lol no way this was worse that the event with volcano high or sackshit or all the event of microsoft with craig infinite or the indies...

No chit chat about bullshit, only trailers of games with gameplay except gow2.

The real letdown was the crossgen shit.

Most of the games shown were trailers or cutscenes, Microsoft style. And imo everything shown, except Demons Souls, looked current gen. At least with say Microsofts third party show, there were games i'm really looking forward to like Scorn and The Medium, 2 of my most wanted next gen games, Bloodlines 2, the sequel to one of my fave games of all time, and surprise hits like Bright Memory or whatever its called.

Not knocking anyone buying a PS5 or XSX this fall, hope you enjoy them. For me, there hasn't been one game that gave me that "wow" factor, not one so far. Every gen since I was a kid in the 80's there has been something that impressed me from the off, so far nothing with this.

It could be gaming fatigue, fed up of the predictability of similar games/sequels or my vision is about as sharp as a hippos arse cheek.

I knew things were iffy when people started using stream quality as a defence to a games showing at a presentation. You see the differences immediately, they stand out , giving you that "woah" feeling. That hasn't happened yet for me.

I'm also sick of the way these executives are put on pedestals and people kiss their arse, it's too easy for them, they all should be working the best they can for our money, it's like some have forgotten that.

Spiderman was gameplay with some cinematics, demons was gameplay, call of shit was gameplay, ff15.5 had some gameplay, hogwarts had gameplay, and we even had the announcement of fortnite at launch, what can you ask more?

Believe me, i'm not in the mood to defend sony right now but this was not the worse event, not even close.

Always these nonsense reasons. If you are so shocked about a few dollars game increase then wait a few month and most games will be ways cheaper.Sony has constantly sales in their PlayStation Store so as owner of the digital PS5 you also get games for cheap. Also people saying this launch is weak The remake of Demons souls is enaugh to shit on every Nintendo game created all together makes the launch the best launch ever period. There are enaugh games to play new games and older games.

A remake of a game I've already beaten (which they accidentally let us know is coming to pc too). A spider man dlc-sized "game". A FF game that seems to be a timed-exclusive, but which they also let us accidentally know was coming to pc eventually too. .A GoW game that's a year from launch.

Not impressed. But I do look forward to Demons Souls remake, even if I did play the original.

Hell, I may wait on my XSX and wait on the PS5. I prefer my Xbox, but I do buy PS for the exclusives....but nothing from either one is really blowing me away yet. I might just stick with PC and my "last gen" consoles until some good bundles are released.

So... the PS-Plus-PS4-Games-Collection is only available for PS5? I have to pay the entry fee of a 400-500€ console to get PS4(!!!) games out of my now almost 10 years spanning, never paused subscription to a more and more down spiraled shitty "service"?
Backwards compatibility beyond PS4 is from the table?
The only difference between digital and BR-version is the BR-drive and it costs 100€?

So... it's ok to go full PC for a few years, right? Thank you, Sony!

Next gen isn't really next gen anymore. I hope this is the last generation of consoles (which will probably last 7-8 years.). Sony Store VS Microsoft Store VS Steam. That is the future I predict. There'll still be plenty to fight about, don't worry, fanboys.

I fear you are right. The mentality of paying nothing to play everything everywhere are ruining gaming. All were going to be left with are uninspired mediocre games. Though they are the first one to cry about games looking bad and not looking next gen.

They never said every title would be PS5 exclusive. Just Xbots trying to stir up things.
No but many many Sony fanboys on NeoGaf did and criticized all the Xbox fans and Microsoft for doing this very thing that Sony is doing and Sony certainly mislead people to think that they weren't doing cross gen anything from their statements.

To Sony: Sony, what's you're response to Microsoft optionally being cross gen with XSX for the first beginning years upon release?

Sony: Nah man, We believe in generations. You will see games only possible on the PS5 next gen hardware and no where else.

Sony fanboys: Cross gen!!? PC releases?!?! Hahaha Microsoft! Ps5 exclusives will make use of the full power of ps5! No lower spec hardware will hold any PS5 games back like it will on Xbox! No need for those games to scale on different spec's machines! You can ONLY play new Sony exclusives on PS5! If we want Microsoft games, we'll play them on PC!

Sony: .....releases many cross gen games on ps4 1.5 TF machine with no SSD(AND PC). Their cross gen plan mirrors Microsoft's.

Sony: Oh? Did we ever use the word "all", well there ya go. See we can wiggle like lawyers and politicians. Sorry everyone misunderstood us. That's on you though.

You know what ? That PS plus collection is a slap in the face of existing ps users too, we bought & supported all those titles in the ps4 generation and now these fuckers are essentially giving all of them free to would be xbox defectors & 'new' console customers.(I don't think the latter are even a real thing, lol)

It's pretty wild that a brand new PlayStation is launching and the headliner launch game is ... a remake of an 11 year old game. I guess that's just the bizarro world we live in these days.

Jesus, yall should have known this was going to be a bad gen. I mean, Sony's biggest tech reveal going into all of this was a fucking fancy hard drive. Enjoy...I guess...

You guys wanted PS5 exclusives, PS Collection is one!

After watching ps5 second stream, my reaction was that ps5 is really attractive and for once it looks like we will not have to wait for several years before we experience hard hitters.
When i bought a ps3, i bought a ps3 slim bundled with GOW3.
I jumped for a ps4 pro, skippi g completely base ps4, in order to have a sufficient library to play.

But i am (was) ready to buy a ps5 at launch or near launch.
The problem is the tv. I have a 1080p 42" sony bravia. Ok for the content i watch now but far from sufficient to watch in full glory 4k ps5 games.

This is where sony completely dropped the ball. They had everything but the decided for no apparent readon to release in 2020 tv's that do not support latest next gen features aka hdmi 2.1.
Sure there is x900h but it's entry level and some key features miss like proper anti glare treatment and others. X950h doesn't support hdmi.
Dont' launch me on oled : burn in is real for gamers and price is too high for a potential shorten live...
So i'll wait 2021 tv editions discounted for black friday in november 2021 to buy the full package.
Until then ps4 backlog and sfV. Withe the notable exceptions of TLOU2 and GOT that i want to play first on a ps5.
It't gonna be a long, too long. 😭😭

Kinda in the same boat but for a different reason.

Don't have a 4K tv, and after seeing the graphics of PS5 and XSX and all the cross gen I don't feel any need to spend 400/500 etc on a new system for a 1080P TV.

As things stand now, you are better off spending that money on a new TV then. I bought a Sony XG90 and still using my launch PS4 on it. I compared this 49" TV with the old 32" Samsung and I had to double check if the Samsung is indeed showing 1080p as it seemed SD compared to the new TV. It's that much better, while playing the same game on the same console in 1080p.

I'm buying for faster load times. Tekken 7 and street fighter v take assloads to load.

It's worth remembering that resolution only limits just that, resolution. I had a PS4 on a 720P DLP TV for a while and it obviously still looked vastly better than the 7th gen even if I wasn't getting the resolution bump. Think about how far we are from even 1080p blu ray video like photorealism. You still get way more shader effects, you still get better textures, you still get the SSD streaming, you still get the significant CPU upgrade for world simulation.

If you want to prioritize a TV upgrade that's definitely a fair way to go, but 1080p TV owners are still going to see a generational increase. I wish they let them take advantage really with a system wide downsampling setting for 1080p owners.

WTF?

What does have any early adopter to gain from blocking access to new customers for those games?

People buying day one (like me in many cases) got to play the game then. Anything that happens afterwards for other people does not impact my experience at all. Quite the opposite. I'm happy more people will have access to those games (some of them really good) and hopefully that will turn into more games like that.

There is no such thing as Xbox defectors and new console customers of course exist. Either because people that weren't into gaming before are now, people that play in other platforms and basically anyone that was born a few years back and are coming into an age where they can be interested in those games.

If you were joking I apologize. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. We are all consumers, brands only care about the amount of money and time we spend in their platforms. Attacking people with different preferences in an imaginary war where "defectors" exist is just... surreal, TBH.

On topic: Sony is doing business and probably is the best decision in order to maximize what they can make. Too bad for us enthusiasts that won't be able to see what Next Gen truly is for the next few years. I was on the fence about getting one on launch or close to launch but now I don't really feel compelled. I think I'll rather wait at least a year and maybe upgrade my GPU in the meantime.

I'm buying the PS5 first, then planning on a LG CX down the road. I can't justify getting rid of my TV yet and buying something so expensive during a pandemic.

With the OLED Vizio TV's coming out and other manufacturers narrowing down on the OLED market. Im sure costs will only decrease over time and the burn-in prevention technology will only improve.

So I might wait until either my TV goes capoot at this point, I spot a really good deal or once its 2022 and my TV is 8 years old and I can justify replacing it.

Rick live dangerous. New oled's don't have burn in problems. Unless you are the type that passes out from drinking for a week at a time watching news channels.

Don't know why you need a 4K TV. With Raytracing enabled a lof of the games run in 1080P. So there's no need to upgrade.
In my opinion an upgrade is only necessary If you want to play the games in 120HZ mode.

Fuck em all

Fuck the industry.

I'll keep on rocking in a free world (gamepass) with my X. Every other console, manufacturer, dev and publisher can suck my fat hairy cock. No fucking way am i paying £70 for a game.

Why does it need to be a Sony TV?

Because sony's lcd are the best of the bunch (my priority : motion) and i don't want an oled due to :
1- Tv is in a VERY bright room
2 - burn in fear
3 - subpar price/size for 75" (my target).

Well, not that sure. I read a lot of forums on the topic...
+ As i mentionned unsuited for a very bright room + subpar price/size ratio for 75 inches.

I will also play mostly with an fullHD system.
I still expect major improvements compared to the PS4, since the games are rendered in 1440p or 4k and then downsampled to 1080p. Of course it won't be as good as a real 4K TV, but much better then 1080p and rendered in 1080p

I don't really care about 4K at this time. Maybe in 3 to 4 years I will upgrade.

So it's 1080p for me with my PS5.

Super-sampled 60 fps goodness in every title is fine by me.

And 120 fps in some titles might be a thing, but my TV is only 60 Hz.
I really want to experience 120hz@4k for indie titles...

I don't disagree, but after seeing MS and Sony what they have to offer at launch I just don't see a compelling reason if I don't have a TV to take advantage of that 4K.

CyberPunk is still going to be there on my PS4 and look good enough for me. The extra horsepower isn't going to make a huge difference without a 4K TV.

Mile Morales is coming out on PS4 and Spiderman looked pretty damn good on my PS4.

And lets not even get started on the XBOX and all their cross gen games.

There really isn't any games that jumped out at me like Killzone for PS3 where you were like ok this is a huge upgrade on graphics.

I am sure in a year or two after launch we will really see games pushing the system without just 4K and probably Ray Tracing making a huge difference. So better to wait, price drops etc.... at least for me.

Sony/MS really didn't show me anything that makes me say holy shit this is a huge leap. And with everything being cross gen it really seems to me the leap is 4K. If you aren't going to push 4K the graphics are not melting my face.

If you have a 4K TV then ya there is probably a big benefit to get that extra power. If you have 1080P you could play Avengers, COD, CyberPunk, AC, and the MAddens/FIFA's until at least next holiday season and then get the XSS at 199-249 or PS5 Digi at 299-349.

This is not my expertise, but even looking at LCD only, how much better is Sony's motion resolution than this, which scores very highly on the metric? Their runner up Sony consideration does not score as well

Xg90 sure is a good tv. But i want 120hz@4k...

I will use my Samsung 4k HDR TV.
I will upgrade my TV only when there's significant new technology. I don't think the jump to OLED is worth buying a new TV now, but them i'm not a TV expert.

Nothing wrong in sticking with PS4 since it seems like you'll be getting most of the same games anyway.

Not sure how it's SONY's problem you have a older TV, personally I'll probably hook it up to my 1080p TV an that's perfectly fine with me.
Maybe I'll buy a nice computer monitor 🤷‍♂️
