We’re excited to announce that we are expanding our Windows Developer Program for IoT by delivering a version of Windows 10 that supports Raspberry Pi 2. This release of Windows 10 will be free for the Maker community through the Windows Developer Program for IoT.
Windows 10 is the first step to an era of more personal computing. This vision framed our work on Windows 10, where we are moving Windows to a world that is more mobile, natural and grounded in trust. With the Windows for IoT developer program we're bringing our leading development tools, services and ecosystem to the Raspberry Pi community!
We see the Maker community as an amazing source of innovation for smart, connected devices that represent the very foundation for the next wave of computing, and we’re excited to be a part of this community.
We are excited about our partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation and delivering a version of Windows 10 that supports Raspberry Pi 2, and we will be sharing more details about our Windows 10 plans for IoT in the coming months.

What version has not been announced. Might be an amazing thing for the game community.

Cross posted.

Not really news since BUILD last year, Microsoft announced the IoT program, and this PR announcement is just an extension of that positive Windows 10 hype train.

You can already run Windows on Intel Galileo boards, which don't have video ports and only have 256 MB of RAM.

Definitely a cool move from Microsoft. Should be far more functional than your Linux distro of choice (for your average user). At least in theory.

Microsoft didn't say that much about IoT version of Win10, did they? It could very well be not user-friendly.

Well if it's just a version of windows cut down to run on the raspberry pi it may be fairly friendly. It could be an offshoot of the failed Windows RT platform.

Sure, It's windows 10, but it's not really windows 10. You won't have comparability with 90% of the stuff you use. Don't forget Raspberry Pi is still an ARM based platform.

Sounds like this will be more open the RT.

It will be a ton better than RT was. Just being able to target ARM in the compiler for a desktop app from Studio is absolutely huge. Currently, you can only do that with the Metro style app and stupid domain tricks to self sign the code. So far it looks like you can just build for them all like you do now when selecting 32 and 64 bit from the compiler.

dumbed down version.... it is up to the dev to publish an arm version, but it should be very easy to do and not restricted like RT was.
