Raspberry Pi Gaming thread - Cheap emulation and gaming projects

That's fantastic, I love the Sonic designs. Come up with those yourself?

What would you estimate it cost you to put together, all told?

Thanks! I just took the sprites from Sonic 2 and created a landscape for all sides including.

Total cost was about $500 when everything was done. I painted my sisters mini fridge from college, satin black & put the arcade onto of that. I might get the front plate of a coin door and mount that on front. Haven't decided yet.

| was eyeing the pine 64 but after getting the CHIP on kick starter I felt sceptical on build quality on KS projects, granted I might get one later down the line if it catches on/
Yeah, I'm hoping it turns out okay, I actually got it because I wanted in on the early shipping date (which will slip, lols) and forgot to take out my backing when I decided I didn't want it. So I'll see how the tinkering goes!

It's not sounding good with the Allwinner chipset and development of things like Kodi, though :/

that pi zero and snes controller mod was something I also looked into back when I got my zero, but in the end I bought an acrylic case from ebay :P I don't have the right tools to shove a zero in to a controller without breaking it.

I don't think you can unless you find a way to output composite audio somehow. There's no HDMI screen that size.

No you can it is just a bit of work. Here is a GUIDE. They also have a 1.5 inch lcd that can hook up to the tv inputs on the pie HERE. I was looking into using this for the VMUboy I am working on but all of it is just to big to it but it should fit a pocket or color with no problem.

Trying to get this thing running on a HDTV in a way that looks as good as it does when my PC is connected to it, can someone share with me their settings/video settings for running SNES emulators, because at the moment, it looks like ass, but when my PC is connected, it looks fine and runs fine

Having a bit of trouble with the .img file of retropie. I have downloaded the latest version of retropie (3.5) from the OP, along with 7zip and Win32 disk imager.
I have installed 7zip and Win32, downloaded the retropie.zip. I have unpacked retropie.zip using 7zip and created the .img file and placed it on my desktop.
Win32 will not recognize that I have a .img file and when I double click the retropie .img, it says that the file is corrupted and cant be mounted.
Where am I going wrong?

Windows 10 by the way if that makes any difference.

Have you tried downloading it again?

Likely a dumb question as I'm a noob at this stuff, but I want to move my roms over to my sdcard without having to use the network connection, but I can't find the right folders when I have the card in my computer. I successfully moved a few across the network, but my wifi is beyond iffy (problem for another day) and I would rather just move them directly from my computer to my card. I should be able to do this, right?

I'm using RecalBox, and yes, I truly am an idiot, haha! Thanks!

Windows can't read Linux partitions. You can only see some boot files and config files.
I haven't done it myself since I generally just use FTP via WiFi, but you can try something like this: http://www.howtogeek.com/112888/3-ways-to-access-your-linux-partitions-from-windows/

So I added games to my FBA folder and they show up as

._1944
._1945
._Strikers
._etc..

The actual roms are there in alphabetical order just at the bottom of this list.
Anyway to remove this?

I managed to put rom's manually using a usb. I formatted a usb to FAT32, and created a folder called retropie. I put the usb into an open port on the pi, waited until the pi stopped flashing then removed the usb.
It then copy's the files from the pi.
I put the usb into my pc, and there should be a rom folder viewable. Locate the emulator and transfer the rom into the folder.
Plug the usb into the pi, switch it on and it copy's the files onto the pi.

Looks like a MAC problem

Any reason to use any other MAME version other than AdvanceMAME? The much larger compatible rom set seems like a no-brainer. Is there any major performance issues, or is it good enough for most games? It's the only version that will play The Outfoxies, so I'm leaning towards switching over to it.

Do you guys think the Pi 3 will sell at the same price as the current Pi 2 or can they get away with charging a bit more?

According to Sweclockers the price will be 100 sek than Pi 2. That translates to about $10/10€ more.

I guess that's three models at three different prices. Zero, Pi 2 and Pi 3.

More information from Sweclockers just released:
A faster quad-core processor: 1,2 GHz.
Integrated support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

I'm probably getting this

I think ill stick with the PINE A64......

https://www.pine64.com/product#intro

seems to have the same clockspeed but i believe the onboard graphics chip is stronger on the PINE and has up to 2GB of memory.

Im hoping the PINE will be strong enough to run retroarch with crt shaders. Have they said what gpu chip the Oi3 will have and release date?

I heard that they use mediatek which would mean a not ideal driver situation.

I just want to create one for

Cadillac and Dinosaur
and Snow Bros (Snow Bros)

How hard is the process and is there a new version of Raspberry Pi coming?

Perhaps with an upgraded Specs?

So the Raspberry Pi 3 is out?

That's amazing news!

Where can I get one? (I'm overseas in Malaysia.)

All this week i was deciding on getting a Pi 2 B, im so glad i procrastinated on it. HAHA!

Any ideas on price?
