Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart weighs in at a nimble 33GB, "sizes are getting smaller on native PS5 games"

If that is the case your IPS is making it slow… talk with them.
There are several IPS that filter downloads to try to economize bandwidth lol

It is illegal btw.

its Comcast, always thought it could be related to having 2 of the same consoles online in the house fucking things up. We couldn't even play destiny together on PS4 any more. Tried all sorts of work around a but nothing ever lasted.

Why would I if I don't need to? I can download the games again within minutes, no internet caps, and that's in worst case scenario. Still ~200GB available on my SSD.

This dude think all PS5 games will be small 33gb:messenger_tears_of_joy:

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, releasing across existing consoles and next-gen hardware on November 13th. And in keeping with tradition, the game is massive. Another source of pain is that for buyers of the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, the game will take up roughly an additional 40GB of space on your new solid state drive.

Here's the full breakdown of file sizes across platforms:

  • PlayStation 4: 95GB
  • PlayStation 5: 133GB
  • Xbox One: 93GB
  • Xbox Series X/S: 136GB

explain how old gen got smaller than current gen?! :messenger_sunglasses::messenger_sunglasses:

That is weird… you should play Destiny in several machines in the same network.

I will try to test late with PS5 and PS4 running Destiny 2.

Isn't it ironic that the PS5 games are smaller, when their discs are the ones that can hold the larger amount of data compared to Series X?

Well I'm not sure but I can reach the max of my IPS contract… 250Mbps with PSN servers.

So at least Sony is not capping below 250Mbps.
Yeah, he has 900+ so it seems they're capped around 40MB/s which is roughly 320Mb/s or the ISP is doing that for game servers. One way for him to test would be Steam, if he is getting above the 40, then it's a MS/Sony thing or the ISP sees them as more usage than the PC side.

Zero optimization, incompetent studio. Most games designed around HDD are filled with duplicates, so an incompetent studio won't spend money and resources on current gen optimization.

Ohhh, Comcast. That explains a lot actually. They do shady shit when it comes to data and especially console networks.

Yeap but depend of the IPS.
It could be limiting the specific gaming traffic (all traffic to PSN and Xbox servers) and the Steam for them is normal PC traffic so no limit.

I have 80-100 MB/s on 1 Gbit channel, so it's definetely can go higher than 40. Maybe there are some region based caps, but i doubt.

That one is easy. HActivision probably wants to bloat your storage so they're the main game taking up space and in constant play rotation since it's more of a damned hassle to uninstall/reinstall something so big.

Has a psychological effect of those addicted normies of not trying out a new multiplayer game if "they have no storage space left" and would just otherwise shrug since it's a hassle, and play on reporting for Dooty.

Demon's Souls is 52gb, bigger than a double layer BD :messenger_sunglasses:

That's why PS5 supports new Blurays up to 100GB. You know, that's a PS5-only game. Also 52GB is not 136GB, and it looks years ahead in terms of fidelity compared to that generic COD game. Also it's not using Oodle Texture there.

I just made a test here and found out my Internet plan increased to 400Mbps/120Mbps down/up with the price range… I did not know that it was 300/100 before.

I'm getting avg. 39MB/s on PS5 download… that is around 390Mbps.

PS. My PS5 is wired… on WiFi I probably won't reach these numbers… I believe my WiFi is limited to 150Mbps.

DeS was a launch game before most of the tech now being utilized. Hence why there is a sharp contrast now compared to launch games. It's also an engine built over the the old engine so there is duplication from the PS3 game size as well which would not take advantage of the new compression techniques that early on.

It should be the textures on new consoles taking up the space also MP mode

Well that's unfortunate given the relationship between Sony and Activision having exclusive 1st demos on playstation platforms, they got time to use Oodle texture thing though

Supposedly 30fps and 60fps, thanks to Heisenberg007 Heisenberg007 , garbage quality though:

Studios don't usually pay extra time and money for goodwill, especially a studio as greedy as Activision. Maybe they'll improve with their next installment.

there's a day1 update which should be a big one, it includes performance mode and photo mode so i think the game should be 40gb+ in size which is still small tbh

My bet is on the cut-scenes videos compression, for example Nvidia's shadowplay can capture a 30minutes 4k 60fps @ 60mbps h264 and the video file would result in just 9gb, PS5 could be using WebM/AV1 in the game to save space then use the audio engine to upscale the audio files to High resolution with ease and that is common in android phones recently, if i remember correctly MGS4 was huge back in the day because of the video/audio files not the game's textures

Game patches don't pile up on PS5, at least from competent studios. I got lots of updates for Fenyx Rising and it's still at around ~49GB (3 DLC's) as it was, same with other games. After updating the original file gets optimized again, replacing old files with the new ones. So it can get slightly smaller or slightly larger or stay the same.

Old methods just add things up which is a lazy work with so much wasted storage.

Control Ultimate Edition PS5 Size Is 42% Smaller Than Xbox Series X Due To Kraken Compression Technique

The PS5 version of Control Ultimate Edition features a significantly smaller file size than its Xbox Series X counterpart, thanks largely to the console's improved Kraken compression technique.

As reported on Reddit, the game clocks in at 25.79GB on Sony's new home console, while on the Xbox Series X the game weighs 42.4GB and 42.1GB on Xbox One. Again, this is due to the better compression technique employed by PS5 hardware.

They should not have duplicated data like it does on the old gen HDDs. But they would rather have one monolith across old gen to the PC and not optimize per platform storage wise. I still stand by my take on the taking up space factor as well. The game has no business being so bloated, when a ton of textures are recycled map to map to map to map.

Yeah Hitman trilogy did the same by removing duplicates and made it only 100gb for the trilogy

Nice numbers, if MS doesn't have an answer to that in E3 it might be bad for them, i have 2 PS5s actually

Update: Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem , this wasn't the best picture to showcase the differences. I thought it was missing ray-traced reflections, but James just confirmed otherwise.

Here is Performance RT in action, and it looks great. Also, that world transformation at 00:04 is lit! 🔥

Insomniac also confirmed three modes, just like Miles.

That world transformation was literally less than 1 second.

Might already have the day one patch included, can someone check their digital preload what version it is currently?

I don't think they use videos for cutscenes.

Already downloaded the game, it's 33.6GB. I think the update is for those with disc version.

First patch 1.001.000 arrieved, and it slightly decreased game's size from 34.32 to 34.21 on my side.
Its not even its final form?? lol

They also mentioned the 60fps, RT mode will be there as a day one update. They are really showing off.

I reeeaallllyyyy need a PS5. The world change mechanic looks like a blast to play.
Yup, they do. Cant wait for Friday to get here..

Maybe on day certain folks will stop downplaying this, and just give credit where its due.

Insomniac are setting the standards for console gaming here, impressive work!

The real question is what are the biggest ps titles going to come in at? Majority of players play either fifa or COD. COD is like 200gb on PS4; will a PS5 only version be under 100gb?

Those who are very invested in these two games rarely play other games, really. And always jump into the new version. So it won't be a problem for most. Also cold storage on an external SSD or using speedy internet are still there just in case.

All of my playstation friends play COD in addition to random titles and PS+ games.

Same here, most of them are FIFA/COD/Fortnite/PUBG first, other games occasionally. But that's due to language barrier as well, making PS Studios and some other games that provide 100% Arabic support more tempting.
