B. New Thief looks amazing, Sword of the Sands Amazing, Nioh 3 Amazing, 007 Amazing, Pragmata Amazing. BUT its really missing a killer app first party reveal as usual…Idk if there will be another show later in the year or not, Ghost gameplay deep dive next month will be 👌

It was a 'B' for me. I enjoyed most of it, and there were a couple of surprises in there, especially Thief VR, Pragmata (it's alive!) and the Marvel Arc fighting game. The Bond game looks like a good time. Nioh 3 looks pretty cool. Just a shame we have to wait until next month for some GOY gameplay.

I voted B.

Nioh3, FFT Remaster, Digimon, Lumines, Bloodstained 2 are of interest to me.

I should drop it to a C because of Ghost of Yotei. I thought to myself: Finally they get it, and they will show gameplay. What a tease.

It makes sense to dedicate a showcase to it. You want at least 20 minutes of just gameplay being shown so that people can see the world, characters, etc.

Hard to be upset when they led with Lumines. Really makes me wish we had a proper Sony portable, though. I'd kill to play this on my Switch 2.

If you only care about Sony 1st party then I suppose it was quite bad. I really don't care who makes the games, as long as I enjoy them, so I thought it was pretty good. Pragmata, Dead Man, Nioh 3, Silent Hill F, 007, Marvel Arc game, and Sword of the Sea all looked good.

D.

Honestly showed a lot of cool shit. But choosing to end it in the most anti-hype way with a fucking 7 minute interview dropped it like two whole scores. Whoever made that choice is incompetent.

Fantastic.

Pragmata lives and has a release window.
Silent Hill F looks like a PS2 era horror game in a good sense
MK complete collection with Rollback! MK4 returns!!!
Marvel crossover by Arc. This could be something.

Surprised at how good it was - how many reveals there were, and how much of a Japanese presence there was. I was expecting the usual SoP, which usually ranges been somewhere between underwhelming and boring. Nice surprise.

There was some good game at the beginning. But the State of Play wasn't great.
Opening with Lumines was a little weird and it make hard to get you in. It's a kind of game i have fun with but not the kind of game that hype me.
Closing with The fighting Marvel game was weird. I think the 3 fans of fighting game remaining will probably appreciate it.

So really bad opening and closing while this is 2 important things to do to put your fans in their best moods.

I think I'm ok with the James Bond game.
Suda51 game looks good also.
And maybe the Pragmata game too.

I guess you either loved this one or hated it haha.

I love that it was much more japanese focused, even the biggest western game was set in Japan. It almost felt nostalgic and very PS2 era Sony.

Solid B from me.

Erratum: As good will to Sony showing more Japan games, its a B, could have been A if they showed more PS single player exclusives. For Sony to make it a win, I hope they talk with the developers to make those third party games exclusives even just time exclusive especially Pragmata, Nioh 3, Romeo, SH F, 007.

C -, and that is me really trying to be generous.

Game of the show was Romeo is Dead. Suda has never had great gameplay but it was the best trailer, looked fresh and fun and was a good reveal. 2nd best game was Bond. Doesnt look like it reinvents the wheel but seems like a fun, polished Splinter Cell Conviction with more spectacle moments. I'm in.

Pragmata looked awful. Hope it has a better showing next time. Looks like a buy at $30 game, but its early. Hope to see more to sell me on it.

FFT was a giant wet fart. Looks like a basic port with some smoothing out. Will be good if its cheap. It won't be.

Journey 2 looks okay. Forgettable but pretty.

Anytime a PS employee spoke I wanted to put a gun to my head. You wonder why their communications suck? Those 3. Ending on a trash anime Marvel game was the biggest joke ever, besides their Ghost of Yotei BS.

Nioh 3 looks pretty safe. But it'll be good. I am literally a giant Nioh 1 and 2 fan and I felt the trailer was boring. Just going on trust it'll deliver. Demo is great.

Silent Hill f was meh to me. Might be okay on sale. Metal Gear 3 looks like it went backwards 4 generations graphically.

Thats it. None of the indie games looked great in this showing. Bloodstained 2 is a day 1 for me but it honestly looks bad. Will buy because of the 1st game.

Solid B. Really good show. Silent Hill F, Pragmatica, and Marvel Token were my highlights.

Needed Ghost gameplay or that rumored God of War 2D game for the A.

Solid A. Saw a lot of titles that I plan to buy.

Romeo is a Deadman and 007 are right up there.

Man, Sony really must have killed a LOT of GAAS projects to have literally nothing to show this SoP. I bet there were even more that we didn't know about that got the axe.

Pragmata saved the show for me, but the sparse Ghost of Yotei gameplay and the poor footage of MGS3 pissed on my cornflakes.

I thought it was fantastic. First state of play in ages where I feel like I want to buy a majority of these games.

Bloodstained and Marvel were big standouts for me. And as a fight stick enjoyer, that Sony fight stick looks so cool.

D

Had some okay stuff but Sony really doesn't have any clue how to make a good show.

That Yotei bait and switch was fucking retarded

First party absences continue to speak volumes about Hermens fuck ups. Not even trash like Fair games getting a spotlight

I recognise Marvel fighting game from Arc as an exclusive is a huge get and will probably sell a fuckton but I doubt I'll buy it

Probably the best State of Play ever. Low bar I know, but I was shooting ropes for half of that.

I can't believe we get two more huge shows this week.

Better SoP than they've had in years (which isn't saying much)
Silenthill
Bloodstained
2D Ninja Gaiden
Nioh 3
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

^ were all games I'd liked to play. A few others possibly, but the SoP didn't show enough for me to be sold on them.
I give it a solid C and was very surprised because my expectations were dirt low.

Amazing show. Lots of games that I like and the announcement plus demo of Nioh 3 makes it a solid A for me.

Honestly...for the first time in like 5 years this was an A show for me,with many games I'm interested in and it being pretty much 90% japanese focused shows how much the western side has fallen to the gaas and dei focused disasters.

PS Studios was also almost completely absent from this outside a brief, unnecessary teaser(why?) of Ghost of Yotei. The GAAS initiative completely destroyed their output and its more and more evident with the lack of any news and announcements from many studios that have been mia for years that should not only have had announcements of projects by now but actual game releases.

The last great Sony presentation was in 2020 with the PS5 showcase when they revealed Demon's Souls,Horizon FW,RE8,GT7 etc. But this one was great and I hope Sony continues like this with a big focus on japanese games!

New Miz game even if it is a Lumines sequel (no shade, but after Tetris that's a step down as far as puzzle games are concerned), new Suda 51, Nioh 3 with demo today, Final Fantasy Tactics, Bloodstained 2, Arc's Marvel Fighter along with a lot of the games we already knew about (Silent Hill, MGS3, Yotei, Everybody's Golf) and Pragmata and Baby Steps finally reappearing. Probably the best State of Play Sony has done.

For me it has some good. Lumines. Thief VR. 007.

If you hate badly written, translated and awkwardly narrated Japanese exposition you probably don't have your last lunch in your stomach anymore.

The second game they brought in was an absolute cringe fest.

Closer was a first-party title.
It's being developed by Arc System Works. That was, like, the whole thing. Exclusive does not mean first-party. (Plus it's coming to PC.)
