Rayman Legends |OT| "It's a bit like a porno" (Michel Ancel) WiiU/360/PS3/Vita/PC

Now that the invasion levels are getting patched in I ma back on board the vita version. My only peeve with that is auto platforming in murphy levels. How many murphy levels are there?

lets hope ubisoft comes to their senses and makes another patch for murphy levels for both the options. Touch with auto platforming & Like on PS3 (Murphy on a button)

It's about half of the "big" new levels and two of the smaller new levels. All in all, there are 28+10 small new levels, then there are 5 bosses, 2*6 music levels and the 40 Origins levels on top, so if you play everything the game has to offer, it's probably about 20% (or less) of the content, if you play just the "essential" new levels, it's 40-50% I'd guess.

And if you want that (a patch for the other playstyle of Murfy on Wii U and Vita), you should let Ubisoft know. I don't think anyone besides me has even complained about that on their channels.

Yeah, it's 1GB. Strangely, far less than the console/PC 4GB versions. It looks mint great though, I have no idea where they've made the file size cuts.
1080p assets on other platforms vs sub-HD assets on Vita (qHD or whatever I've seen used). In a game that's all about the gorgeous 2d art, I'd guess that's one of the biggest contributors. Probably they've lessened the quality of audio too.

On PC audio is raw PCM at 48KHz and takes up half the data of the game.
So yeah that's a given.

So I read a lot how this game is too easy, linear levels ; left to right and does not have hidden cages etc.

Lets not forget this game was coming originally on a Nintendo platform that did not had rayman origins before. Maybe Ubisoft was trying to capture the kids and family market that Nintendo is known for. How difficult is the new content that they added?

Hope this game satisfies me cause I am having a bitching time with trying to platinum origins and some of those time challenges are tough even more than land of the dead.

Been playing the Wii U version, and I gotta admit I'm getting bummed out with Murfy levels being so frequent :( I would enjoy this game so much more if there wasn't so many Murfy levels. I just hate having control of the platforming taken away from me like this.

I think I'm the complete opposite. I can't seem to get enough of the Murfy levels! The Murfy stages in 20,000 Lums Under the Sea are fantastic. They really come into their own in the endless run challenge levels though. So good.

It's exactly as linear as Origins and still features hidden routes and pockets much in the same vein as Origins did. Generally the design is less demanding however, lum pars are easier to reach for example, but later worlds and Invaded stages are difficult enough to scratch the itch. Doesn't seem like there's anything remotely in the ballpark of the Land of the Livid Dead though, unless you count the 8-bit stages and those aren't really difficult, just cheap.

You will miss out on the fantastic coop and you cannot play Murfy in the Murfy-stages, but other than that the PS3-version is content-complete.

There's still regular 4 player coop in the PS3 version and I actually prefer performing the platfoming in a platformer myself. Wow, that sentence sure as hell doesn't roll off the tongue... :p

By "fantastic coop" I meant the one where one player plays Murfy, it was not referring to the small differene a fifth player makes.

Sorry, but OLED + headphones >>> 55inc TV + 5.1 surround. Do yourself a favour and actually look at the game running on a Vita.

I don't want to sound like an ass, but you'd probably change your tune like many others here if you actually saw it running on a Vita.

I did and I still completely disagree.

Got an email from Amazon UK that my order of Rayman Legends on Vita just got dispatched. Should be with me tomorrow. I thought it was delayed till next week.

Edit: Amazon website also showing release date as tomorrow now.

I really hate whoever thought the last world was a good idea. It started off so promising but those damn
8-bit levels
are killing me. The way they move is giving me horrible motion sickness. I made it to level 4 and had to stop and lie down for a while.

I've never had something like that happen to me before.

any possibility on this being able to be patched to play online? or if this is even possible?
just dreaming here guys

It's not impossible, but very unlikely. The reason is the same as why Mario games don't offer online multiplayer: Performance is cruical here, something you could not guarantee on a sufficient level online. Also, of course this kind of patch would probably be a lot more work than the Invasion levels on Vita (which it is getting) or non-Touch-control options for Murfy levels, which are already programmed, for Wii U, which it isn't getting. So if Ubisoft decided to give it a try, I'd hazard a guess that it'd be paid DLC.

This game is simply a joy to play. Have it just a bit below Origins for two reasons:

- The Murfy stuff. I actually enjoy the smaller levels (Dungeon Dash etc.) and challenges as a change of pace, but he shows up in the main levels just a bit too much and what he offers really doesn't justify his presence. For instance, in Fiesta de los Muertos there's the stage where he's eating cake, and it's fine. But then a few levels later you have enemies performing basically that same function and the experience is far more enjoyable. If you're going to introduce something that can, even for a second, distract from the rhythm and flow of the kick-ass platforming, it had better be special and it's not. His inclusion isn't terrible (and at times can be interesting and even fun: "Press __ to guacamole!"), just largely unnecessary.

- Second reason here is purely a matter of taste: The art and music are obviously both fantastic, but they seem to have smoothed over a few of Origins' perceived rough edges in order to present an ever so slightly more polished, staid experience--I just happen to prefer the full-on batshit crazy on offer in Origins. In Legends, you platform on hot dogs. In Origins, the hot dogs were ALIVE!

Those are my two shitty gripes. Absolutely loving everything else.

SUPER-IMPORTANT RATING: Legends has earned the coveted one sore thumb out of one!

Who else is enjoying the Back to Origins levels more than the new ones? I mean the new ones are excellent, but the Origins levels are the real legends.

The contrast is definitely apparent. Origins' levels are mostly narrow, linear gauntlets of concentrated sets of obstacles while Legends' are generally larger (playspace, not length) and more open, but often with less to do in any given area.

Love them both though. Love Origins levels for the straight challenge and Legends levels for the "kick back, relax, enjoy the aesthetics and collect some shit" mindset they put me in. Invaded levels not included, of course.

You are not alone.

I am here with you.

I've got the Vita and PS3 versions, and I really do prefer playing the game on the PS3. I just don't enjoy guiding another player as much as I do controlling them on my own.

They have the same controls, yes, but I prefer the d-pad on the GamePad (a bit) and the analog stick on the GamePad (a lot). So for most of the game it's a bit of an advantage, for the water levels it's a bigger advantage for me to play on the GamePad instead of the Vita. However, due to the 5 exclusive levels and portability, I plan on buying the Vita-version anyway (on top of the Wii U and 360 versions I already have).

EDIT: It's not only about playing with more than 2 people, but also about playing with two people. I don't know anyone with a Vita, so I'd need to buy a second Vita and a second copy of Rayman Legends to play its multiplayer on Vita. On Wii U, I just need a classic controller and I can comfortably play with my girlfriend (who really likes the game, too :)).

This is one game that makes me truly grateful for the headphone jack on the Gamepad.

I really hope that Ubisoft patches the Wii U version to have 360/PS3/PC controls for the Murfy stages. I really like the game and I think the Murfy stages could be awesome with more than one person playing. But, there are a lot of times that I'll be playing the game on my own and the other control scheme seems to be so much better for single player. I have a hard time getting Globox to jump or walk in the direction I need him to go. I miss out on Teenies because of the AI stupidity and not my poor playing skills.

Forgive me guys, I know this has probably been discussed to death, but Wii U or Vita? I can't really afford to drop $60 on the game right now so if I go Wii U I'll have to wait, but I'm interested in knowing how beneficial the Gamepad is to the experience compared to the Vita version. I played through Origins on PS3 and Vita and preferred the Vita version if that's any help.

I love how I can play this on the Gamepad, but I don't even want to because its so beyond beautiful on the TV. I can't even remember the last time I was able to sit in front of a TV for so long to play games. What a joy this game is.

No I won't. I prefer playing console games rather than handheld games. Just respect it. I'll take a 55" TV and 5.1 Surround over any handheld version any day.

I think important questions are:

- Do you want to play with more than one friend at once? (+ Wii U)
- Do you want to play on the go? (+ PSV)
- Do you want to play on a TV with a higher resolution and surround sound as an option? (+ Wii U)
- Do you value five exclusive touch-levels made bei Ubisoft Casablanca high? (+ PS Vita)
- Do you plan on playing multiplayer?
If yes: Do you know enough other players who both, have a PSV and are willing to buy Rayman Legends?
If no: (+ Wii U), only controllers are needed
- Do you prefer the Wii U's dpad or the Vita one's? (+ the perferred control choice)
- The same for the analogstick, which is the better way to control the game in the underwater sections, about one of five worlds in the game (+ the perferred control choice)
- Do you care that 28 Invasion levels will not be available for now on PSV? They will be patched in later, when, however, is unclear, so it might be when you're done with the game otherwise (+ Wii U)
- Do you prefer to use a stylus or your finger for touchscreen-sections? (Stylus: + Wii U, finger works on both)
- Are you short on financial ressources? (Vita-version is cheaper for now, so + PSV)

Noone will be able to answer that question for you directly, I personally prefer Wii U, but others prefer Vita, as evident above. However, I really, really advise you to play the game in multiplayer (in addition to singleplayer), because the Murfy + Rayman multiplayer is outstanding.

Awesome, thanks for the help, man.

I had some fun playing Rayman Origins in MP but it was primarily a SP game for me. That said, I feel like this game could be more enjoyable in MP because of the Murfy stuff. I think I'll wait until the Wii U version hits $40 or so, and maybe pick up the Vita version as well somewhere farther down the line.

That's really the deciding factor for me as the rest is more or less a wash (other than the price, obviously). The Vita and Wii U both have incredible d-pads and while the Wii U has a better analog stick I'm sure the Vita's will be perfectly serviceable for me as it was in Origins.

I'm not a huge fan of the traditional multiplayer stuff in vein of NSMBW, but Murfy-levels are really another level when played in multiplayer with one player as Murfy. For me this, right next to the musical levels, is the highlight of the game.

I'd guess you will not have to wait longer than a few weeks for that to happen ^^. It's strange the game is 60$ on Wii U in the US anyway, because here in Germany it's "only" 50€.

That's great to hear. I'm right there with you, generally not a huge fan of typical MP stuff in 2D platformers of late (I much prefer a good SP challenge). Hearing that the Murfy stuff is well above that is making me lean towards the Wii U for sure.

Interesting. Yeah, I rarely see the point in buying an Ubisoft title at launch, they pretty much always take a plummet within the first month or two.

I finally got all 700 Teensies today. Easily one of my favourite platformers I've ever played, I just had so much fun with the many awesome levels throughout the game (especially perfecting the music levels).

I'll now just focus on getting the last couple of trophies I need (awesomeness rating to its max and 1 million lums) so I'll probably stick to the challenge mode mainly which I've really been enjoying. I have a feeling its going to be a heck of a grind to max out my awesomeness rating...

problem is I hate OLED screens (oversaturated and inaccurate). :( Sorry.

Well that and it's STILL a 5" screen. Still missing 50 inches of real estate.

Man, playing the set piece levels in this game in multiplayer is almost not worth it. The levels do so much cheating to keep things exciting, the (slightly) trailing player is usually screwed over. That and I HATE how Rayman's "dash" is also his moving attack. This just kills so much in multiplayer. I dash, like a long jump in Mario, or roll jump in DKC which is to say I do it all the time. Toning my dashes down isn't so much of a problem in normal stages (seeing as there is more space) but on the time attack stages me or my brother is spending half of the stage in a bubble thanks to being hit into an obstacle.

I'm messing a bit with the game files on the PC version. Is this on the game at all?
GtzI2P9.jpg

I never saw it as an unlockable. It crashes whenever I try to enter a stage tho. (Video)

His file is rayman_ubi. (Named like that for obvious reasons)

EDIT: It just crashes because I'm an idiot with hex-editors, I need one that supports 5 GB files.

Being a fan of the first game I do enjoy Legends. I am playing on PS3 though and hate the Murphy levels. everything else is pretty awesome though.

Looks like Steam is going to refund my purchase after they left the Uplay requirement off their pre-order page.

Do the console versions require Uplay? Maybe I'll pick it up there after a price drop.

No, I didn't bother logging in when I started the Wii U version.

Wii U does not require it in any way shape or form. I got through the first few levels just fine. I actually only went to sign into uplay when I wanted to see if they'd give me something as a bonus, at which point I found you couldn't create an account in Rayman and actually needed to download the uplay app.

So if I go back into the app now I'll get 10,000 lums?

and yes, if you've already setup uplay on wii u you will automatically be logged in. after creating my account in the app I went to the uplay option in the game and it said "your nintendo network id has already been linked to your uplay account" or something like that.

The Vita version is great!

Also played both styles of Murphy stages. I think they both have a fun way of playing. I like controlling Rayman on the console versions, but it does get a bit tedious pressing buttons. I can tell the QTE controls was shoehorned in and doesn't feel natural.

The touch style is very gimmicky. But it's fun and feels more designed with touch play in mind.

I'd still go with the Wii U version only because the system needs more games and feels like it fits its library more.

You can go to Rewards and purchase a set number with your Uplay points or whatever they're called.

It's a tiny thing, but I LOVED the end of the level "Lucha Libre Get Away" when
the luchadore just gives you a thumbs up while sinking
. I was cracking up at the randomness of it.
